Having owned a v8 hq ,many thumbs up to the suspension guys, the noise and black lines are impressive but only people who drove those things stock will know the miracles that car is performing on corner entry!. Bravo gentlemen!.
TongueYaBum how is that poorly driven? They’re racing on public rural roads and residential streets, not perfectly prepped circuits. Pretty impressive I thought
I love watching the big Aussie muscle cars that were so common (and cheap) when I was a kid absolutely caning it. Look at the way that HQ squats a little when he nails it! Awesome
Absolutely LOVE IT what a cool looking Monaro & it goes hard, driven hard. This kind of event is so cool & a wonderful way to see high performance mock ups from a great era in Australian automotive history, being pushed a little looking & sounding fantastic. This high performance car driving makes sense, a lot more than doing "skids" on a "burnout pad" or "power cruise" till their tyres pop & thinking their great. Love the Targa & Adelaide Classic events, so good we have them.
You are so right eweryboddy can burn tires ? bot only a fru car drive a car like this this car whirly have some pouder undeer the hood just keep on gooing and kip the pedal to the metal
Came across this link after watching the daily highlights of the 2021Targa. That HQ Monaro is superb-looking and sounding car, and it's beyond me how he can throw that beast around those roads. The introduction of the HQ was an exciting time in Oz automotive history. Just compare its design with what came immediately before!
It honestly sucks knowing that by the time I am old enough and financially stable enough, that finding a Monaro for a project car will be near impossible. Will always LOVE the sound and looks of these cars and many other V8 Holdens. Wish a company would design more cars to look like this again, even with following the V4/6 turbo trend for fuel efficiency.
Nope. 🤦🏼♂️ He is _not_ mashing the pedal, because he _does_ give a fuck. He was showing good/great throttle control. That's the main reason why he was so fast. If he was a dopey meat-head, just mashing the pedal and getting off to squeally tyre noises, that Q would've been going backwards off the bitumen, at almost every bend.
it corners lke my old 350 4dr, Flat! it had selby suspension kit back in late80's, a HQ racer drove my GTS350 said it handled s good as his race car, it was a lot of fun on a wet road lol
Bought my first HQ GTS when I was 18 for $5,000. Sold it as wreck 4 years later (I tore out the entire front end crossing a creek line). Bought my second HQ GTS when I was 26 for $3,500. Sold it for $2,800 6 years later. My 3 growing kids had trouble getting in & out of the back seat.... I have just turned 61 and I still dream of number 3. But at around $100,000, I will have to win Lotto first...
HQ Monaro's always look Best in Orange. Looks and Sounds Really Nice. Obviously Highly Modified, otherwise it would've Ploughed into the kerb on the first corner. Pretty snappy gear changes so it's got a nice box in it. Responds well to a Kick in the Guts, and he drives it well. Good Show.
Yeah, that'd be it. Good Old RTS. There isn't a Car on The Road that shouldn't be using it! Yeah, I know, that was the Leyland Brothers with Caltex CX3? But just as much Bullshit. ;-)
What about this....."Zoom With The Power Release, Go Golden Fleece Active 8!" You gotta be getting on to remember that one! Well, I think that's right, I was just a Boy.
One of the most beautiful cars ever made

Ha. As an ex q owner myself the stock comparison would be... Interesting 😁
What about all that "radial tuned suspension"? LOL
@@slowlearner984 That came with the HZ in '77. It was revolutionary for Holden.
Stock version . Turning the wheel is ONLY a Suggestion . May get ignored .
Their all coil and light, lots of stuff can be done to make them very potent handlers
Always good to see a powerful car being driven with attitude ... Good on ya Steve Coad !!!
TongueYaBum how is that poorly driven? They’re racing on public rural roads and residential streets, not perfectly prepped circuits. Pretty impressive I thought
@@shorterthentyler45 there's always one.
Nice driving 👍
Long live high revving, naturally aspirated engines
i believe that may be supercharged. that whine is RPM dependent and seems too high pitched to be gear white from a straight lace gearbox
Agreed!
@@ghomerhust its a N/A SBC all the way
This sounds never gets old unless your a ev owners in that case this is probably hell for them lol
@@ghomerhust probably just has a ribbed gilmer belt drive, they make a noise similar to a supercharger.
Probably the most watchable of all motorsport events. Great old classics, muscle cars, supercars and tuners ripping around public roads. Brilliant
I love watching the big Aussie muscle cars that were so common (and cheap) when I was a kid absolutely caning it. Look at the way that HQ squats a little when he nails it! Awesome
The sweet roar of a V8 in the times of soulless turbo sewing machines ! Good driving ! 😎👍
If you think turbos are soulless you should get a load of electric cars.

Plenty of mumbo and the driver has huge stones.Seriously cool. The Knight Rider would be proud
I drove a Monaro only once in my life. I was 16 years old at the time, and that short trip has stayed with me forever since!
When i have a shit day, one of many things that put a smile on my face is watching this beast roar!! seen it a few times now :)
Have you tried watching with earbuds .
@@chrismckell5353 don't like shit in my ear. I have a set of Bose headphones that rock the tits off for sound, 💪
That looks and sounds SUPERB
Music to every Aussies ear, the sweet sweet melody of a classic Holden.
my favourite Targa clip of all. Not afraid to put the boot in.
I agree.
Geez I love that thing! Angry, miraculously accurate and gloriously musical.
that aint no hq suspension. that steering ratio and direct response is a credit to whoever built that thing. looks like a very well set up machine.
Having own a few i was thinking the same
Yeah no way my old mans doesn't handle like that at all :D
There not hard to get handling good being all coil and a simple steering box
Yeah, none of my HQ/J's handled like that. Would love to know the setup underneath.
adjust the nut on the steering box to make it point is easy and yeah it's bouncy and oversteer like all the rest
That thing just wants to bag up everywhere
some of the best driving footage on here. awesome job
awesome video dude! i used to have one of these so its fantastic to see it being driven hard! great shots and videography too!

What a weapon! No wonder why it was the crowd favourite absolutely love a neat hq
f**king awesome let that lion roar. and long live the king. used to own one of these and still regret selling it. love your work
There is NO lion roaring in this.
my favourite competition Holden over the last 10 years 😀😀
Impossible not to love an old Q
Sweet music - and a sweet looking HQ. Love it !
Awesome sound !!
I got goosebumps just listening to that gorgeous engine !!
😁
Best looking and sounding Monaro i have ever seen. Sound like a super car.

Gee I'm going to miss the internal combustion engine. Loved watching this, thank you.
im a ford man through and through, but this is brilliant!
The power of a holden, the agility of a WRX
One of the best songs of 2016
I could watch this all day
wow angry hq well driven too
It looks like a Camaro with monza back clip and mustang front clip. It's beautiful I need one.
The HQ Monaco is a Holden-only design. This GTS & the Torana from this era are two of the best muscle cars ever made.
@@jkmsaturn I reckon the HK, HG and HT’s were the best looking holdens ever made fullstop
Beautiful machine it's so nice to see them on the road rarely but they are out there LONG LIVE THE LION 💜
Amazing driving. Really pushing the limits.
Pure pleasure...sight and sound.! 👍
Awesome car and driving !!
I had one many years ago and still at any angle it looks sweet

Dream car. Sadly I'll never own one unless I move to Australia.
Australian Camaro with a hint of fourth gen Nova thrown in. I dig it!
i had a worked le monaro back in 1980 not as quick as this one great footage
I wish cars still looked like this...
ONE ANGRY SWEET MONARO !!!! LOVE IT !!!
the Chevy Bowtie gives away what's powering it, so to speak the DNA-code.
Yesssss!!!! Mental, love it!!!!
Hear that Lion roar!!!
Ive been a ford fan for 35 years but that Monaro is a beast credit were credit is due
Beautiful.
Watched this 5 times and I feel better now...a few more and I'll start misbehaving like a 20 year old!
Wicked driving Steve!
Sounds bloody awesome 2.
I used to drive a hq years and years ago. A boat on 4 wheels. God i miss it.

Fantastic video! I wish I'll be capable of doing this on Assetto Corsa :D

A Qee that doesn't understeer? Easy answer, it had the high-tech HZ RTS front suspension assy installed. :-)

Badass! 🤘
Those stock 253’s go hard hey!
I need to drive this
Beautiful car.....
Smiled the hole vid
Awesome car and the driver must really know her well.
I WANT ONE.🙉🏁
Wicked as!!!
Still the most iconic aussie muscle car (of course having owned one I be a tad bias 😁)
