Your video was the only video that explained how the buttons work, I was so frustrated that I thought the pasta maker was broken, but it wasn’t, I successfully made pasta after watching your video, thank you so much!

Great video! Straight to the point, clear view of exactly what you need to see, makes using the machine simple and easy to understand, and gives you a good feel for what the ease of use would be like to actually own and use it frequently.

Thank you for your video, this is very helpful for me to start using the machine. Because this is very sensitive, far from sensitive! so that won't work with the slightest inconvenience, right? But I'll keep trying make noodles.

BE AWARE! This looks so simple and it is BUT there are many important things left out of this video. I will soon make a video because all these demos seem to miss some very important things. I will list a couple.
1- The flour type used matters and it gets very specific to your desired end result. Proper flour selections are critical. You will have a poor dough if you aren't exacting, including If you are adding egg or not. The machine has the egg or no egg option in settings but you still need to match the right flour to using egg or going no egg. Generally you should not be using egg if using all semolina flour. For this machine making without egg Philips suggests All Purpose Flour. You can go with a U.S. type All Purpose Flour such as King Arthur All Purpose. The small recipe guide that came with my machine has a breakdown of flour blends for more sophisticated pastas.
2- If using egg be sure it has been brought to room temperature first.
3- Water should be room temperature. If it is winter and came out of a tap it may need to sit first. Whatever the water source make sure it has no chill to it. I use filtered water.

Quick question, I'm debating if I should buy the pasta maker with the built in scale. Will it work if I mix my own mixture and use the machine to extrude only?

Depending on the model, there should just be an extrude function so you can just make your pasta and then toss it in.

I have issues from time to time with my pasta maker which is unfortunate because when it works, it is great. I love it. Occasionally, the pasta maker is on but will not work. For some reason, it has both a cup and ml option even though the liquid measuring cup I received only shows millimeters. Therefore, the liquid measurement is not correct. I have made the 250g of flour recipe numerous times and it calls for 95 ml of water. However, when the setting somehow switches over to cup, the measurement is wrong. I don't know how to adjust the setting to ml rather than cup. Any suggestions? I tried calling Phillips but it is impossible to get through.

Oh no, how frustrating. We have never experienced that at the moment, let's hope that it doesn't happen for us either. We also went through the online manual and doesn't seem to have any information on the switching from grams to cups. We will continue to investigate, if we come across something. We will definitely let you know. Have a great day!

I have the same pasta maker & couldn’t figure it out, what I discovered is that this model is very sensitive and has to be done in a certain order, try follow is video in exactly the same order she shows it should tell you how much liquid to use. I couldn’t successfully make my pasta till I followed her steps exactly. For 250 g of flour you need 95 water (the marking on the cup where it says 95. That makes perfect pasta. I hope that helps. God bless!

I had the same issue and then I realized I was not seating the clear overhead lid quite well and snug. If it hasn't detected the overhead lid it still thinks you are adding flour. Once you put the lid in nice and snug it should switch to showing you the .ml measurement you will need for the liquid.
I went crazy a couple times til I discovered I had the lid on but because it was not quite snug the detection tab wasn't fully activated and scale was still giving me the flour measurement.
Once that lid is snug the scale should run a final flour weight detection and then you should be at the step for adding .ml of liquid and the digital display matches up with the requested amount of liquid in .ml that you should be adding.
The nice thing about this machine is you can really put a bunch of flour in without preweighing it and the machine makes all the calculations of flour weight once that lid is on nice and snug. Once that lid has been on correctly and it makes that final flour weight calculation it requests the amount of .ml of liquid needed to mix with your flour and then you press the play button and slowly add the measured liquid in .ml on top of the clear lid/slots as it is "kneading" the dough.
Consider using a quality, easier to read liquid measuring cup.
Always place the cup on a flat surface and get an eye level reading! Measurements must be exacting because you need exact measurements and behaviors if you want to replicate good results.

I've seen other videos where the units for the machine is in grams for weighing flour instead of cups. I'm assuming your machine measures flours in cup units

Cups. I believe there are other models that have more advanced settings

Regardless of model it is essential to weigh things in grams. Cups are used for general guidelines because many people don't have scales. It is advisable to get a kitchen scale that will let you measure in grams. If you have a pasta recipe that asks you to measure your flour in cups you may want to consider using a different recipe. The reason to measure in weight is to get an accurate measurent. Dry measurements in cups are altered by density, you could measure out two dry cups of the exact same flour and put them side by side but the weight could be different due to density. When it comes to flour these measurements need to be exacting. It took me time to accept the nuisances of working in exacting terms with this type of food preparation. With pasta, pastries, baking, it gets a lot more important to be completely accurate. It still amazes me that subtle differences in weight can really alter results. I feel these machines were made by great engineers that worked within parameters for the intended task but the instruction book/recipe book could use a little more info. People that haven't already worked with pasta might feel a bit lost if they are trying to get up and running or branch out to more afvanced recipes. For anyone feeling like this watch some non automated machine made pasta techniques. There is so much info and techniques to play with. Some of the info will help with understanding how to get more advanced use out of the pasta maker. You may even find yourself making some dough by hand or in a food processor and then moving it into the Philips. Most importantly though, weigh the pasta flour in grams, use the right flour(s).
