Morrisound Recording, Tampa, Florida. May 4th, 1999 Lee Harrison - Drums Jason Avery - Vocals Jason Morgan - Guitars Kelly Conlon - Bass www.metal-archives.com/albums/...
I played Bass in a Slayer cover band that slowly morphed into a Brutal Death metal band. We absolutt wouldve put blasts into the chorus and lead solo parts.
Saw Monstrosity in Chicago around 2000 and they ended their set with Angel of Death. It was awesome and powerful. Lee Harrison had no monitors most of the show and still drummed flawlessly. Amazing
Whoa, now it is clear. Slayer are a death metal band! Just add growling vocals and you have this awesomely brootal death metal masterpiece :D Hail Slayer.
Of course - proto- death on Hell Awaits and RIB . South of Heaven was a thrash album also SITA. SNM was a post - NWOBHM album with speed metal elements.
Excellent cover! insane vocalist. Almost sounds like a NYHC band. I know its a weird opinion, maybe ive been listening to punk a lot lately. But if you really think about it, hardcore punk's influence on both death metal and thrash is pretty ubiquitous.
Totally, it's more clearly influenced by UK Hardcore like Discharge etc but I can see Cro-Mags being a solid influence for some early death metal as well, not far from Slayer riffs whatsoever.
The only changes are mainly the growling and thats it... that shows how much accurate is to say that Reign in blood is the first Death metal record ever.
for well over a decade I always thought Corpsegrinder was the one on vocals to this cover... WTF I guess you learn something new everyday , they sounded very similar back in 1999 lol
SOLID AS FUCK !! Only Slayer could play this song as well as this. LOVE the death metal approach to the vocals, it suits this particular Slayer song incredibly well considering what this song is about
Toutes confondues. Et sur scène les copains.....pfiouuuu
death metal uses a ton of stuff from thrash since thrash heavily influenced it, however it has things it doesn't. the "feel" of the music is different, death metal mostly cares about creating a horror based atmosphere over heavy violent riffing, even when it's going fast and using thrash riffs. as other people pointing out, death metal also utilizes slower speeds that thrash never did in order to create an evil oppressing feeling. they use a lot of the same styles of riffing and drumming though, but employ it differently, for example thrash bands were the first to do that kind of evil sound temolo picking riff (you can hear slayer, kreator and sepultulra do it in the 80s) but death metal will use that to make far more evil creepier sounding melodies and riffs. old school death metal also sometimes used blast beats which thrash never did, but that's way more common in brutal death metal and grind than old school death metal thb.
sadly, tom is probably the worst vocalist from a band people think are great/classic. i've heard him live multiple times over the years. he's legit terrible.
Basic and bland drumming. Dave Lombardo does a way better job. But if you want to hear THE BEST drumming and cover of this song, then listen to Carnifex version.
Miscued from the cue...Angel Of Death is NOT about a demonic angel slaying a Righteous Angel, they shall never be displaced; "The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all. 20 Bless the Lord, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word! 21 Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will. 22 Bless the Lord, all you works of His, In all places of His dominion; Bless the Lord, O my soul!" Garrett Warman That's the nature of Death metal. The vocalist should sound like Death itself. I do prefer thrash metal vocalists though anyway, more clearer XD
This is exactly how I imagined this would sound as death metal
mitchell2719 Same here.
Its still trash metal just with death metal vocals
More brutal guitars and growling? Fuck yeah!
Rusty Shackleford Is speed death metal or thrash death metal lol
I played Bass in a Slayer cover band that slowly morphed into a Brutal Death metal band. We absolutt wouldve put blasts into the chorus and lead solo parts.
Def the best Angel Of Death cover
Carnifex did a great job too, Montrosity Kills it
Have you heard carnifex doing this? Dude nails the high note and growls better than this. The drums are nuts too
Saw Monstrosity in Chicago around 2000 and they ended their set with Angel of Death. It was awesome and powerful. Lee Harrison had no monitors most of the show and still drummed flawlessly. Amazing
a fkn machine
This may be one of the greatest covers ever. \m/

@@_marcoopuccii Fuck yeah! I love Death Metal! This Cover is awesome!
More down tuned guitars, blast beats, lyrics are even more brutal

Sick cover. Properly done.
Sem dúvidas o melhor cover de uma música do SLAYER Perfeita sintonia.
Whoa, now it is clear. Slayer are a death metal band! Just add growling vocals and you have this awesomely brootal death metal masterpiece :D Hail Slayer.
of course, tom doesnt want to scream in deathmetal he doesnt like it
+dudersification what a wimparoni. and yet he yells like a trailer park hobo. makes no sense to me
Twisted_Arcade I have always considered Slayer to be more proto death metal than thrash.
Thrash can be just as heavy as Death Metal.. Heaviness doesn't make something Death Metal it's song structure that does
Of course - proto- death on Hell Awaits and RIB . South of Heaven was a thrash album also SITA. SNM was a post - NWOBHM album with speed metal elements.
Awesome cover by these guys! They got Lombardo's cymbal crashes and double bass down to a t!!!
Killer cover, killer band, and that killer album art. \m/ Hails

Spot on! The growl sorta matches the nature of the song. Just awesome. Jeff would be proud. I think.
The best Def Leppard cover ever

kick-ass cover
THis is fucking EPIC
Excellent cover! insane vocalist. Almost sounds like a NYHC band. I know its a weird opinion, maybe ive been listening to punk a lot lately. But if you really think about it, hardcore punk's influence on both death metal and thrash is pretty ubiquitous.
Thanks bro
Slayer made a whole record covering punk songs, mostly hxc, says a lot
Totally, it's more clearly influenced by UK Hardcore like Discharge etc but I can see Cro-Mags being a solid influence for some early death metal as well, not far from Slayer riffs whatsoever.
Nice! Picking up what they're putting down.
Epic !
Heard on Sirus XM- so brutal my eyes instantly bled upon listening- Never heard of this band before and they totally destroy

The only changes are mainly the growling and thats it... that shows how much accurate is to say that Reign in blood is the first Death metal record ever.

@@sweetypuss Seven churches only has growls as a difference, reign in blood sounds more evil

yeah, I wrote this song... Good job in covering it
wtf?
Everything sounds better if it's made into Death Metal
Death metal sounds mutch better with death metal sound.
PURE FUCKING METTTAL!

Corpsegrinder was BORN to do that into scream. One of the best AOD covers out there.

Are they playing in d standard?
chingón
I still can't understand if there is more differences between death and thrash, besides guitars tone and growl.
Help me, almighty experts!
Faster drumming and sometimes there's slower parts in Death Metal. Also Death Metal is a sometimes slower than Thrash Metal.
There are no slow thrash metal

Fucking ridiculous. Props to these guys.
Cannibal corpse cover The Exorcist POSSESSED...BEST 4 EVER!!!
this cover is awesome, but not the album cover
whats wrong with the cover, its dark art for a dark band
dudersification it kinda looks cheap in my opinion
oh lol, yea it does look cheap
Reminds me of the graphics to late 90s PC games.
ha! like a cheap knock off of diablo
HEXEN - SLAYER - 90's
Vaders cover is also really good
Vorgulair Blazzek they covered Raining Blood
Vaders cover is realy good too. Kicks ass
Now im confused, it isn't Fisher? It sounds like him
Anyone know what tuning this is in?

Araya has more depth of timbre, despite lacking the "growl."
Really pointless comparison, considering it's two completely different singing techniques.
man, i've heard enough live Slayer to know that Tom can't sing for crap. He's all studio knob twiddling.
Lion meat for sale
Death metals all around
its Corpse grinders vocal
It's Jason Avery.
No it isn’t! Jason Avery did
Bostaph, should listen to HOW it's done.

Yes, but this is better.

shame about that album artwork.... sheesh
George Fisher before he was in Cannibal Corpse if I remember correctly
It's Jason Avery from Eulogy, not Fisher.
Jason Avery did vocals on this
Nope
this is my friends band
better than the slayer version :))))
Good cover but the solo is weak in this one.
Please don't.
Better band than Slayer. Just saying.

Choking on a mic for 4 minutes for 30 years isn't easy man.
Do pop singers sing or use autotune?
Are you new to Death Metal?
yeah, a bit sounds like some kind of death metal

I just heard it, In fact I came from that video since this was recommended lol. Btw. aren't the drums fake on Carnifex version?
