When I was a kid we found a bloke called Mr Gibbons in the phone directory. We phoned him up a few times and went "Do - do - do - the funky gibbon, etc." down the phone at him. That was the height of entertainment when I was 10. DC
RIP Tim Brooke-Taylor. I met Tim Brooke-Taylor many years ago along with Bill Oddie and Graeme Garden when appearing as an extra on the Goodies way back in 1981, 13 years old.
Me, my sister and whatever mates happened to be there would just line up and sing along. It's hard to sum up how much we 70s Brit kids absolutely loved The Goodies.
Because there were many rap records before rappers delight. Rappers Delight was the first big international hit. This was a local lol, massive difference. U-Roy was toasting on vinyl since the late 60s in Jamaica
The Goodies are easily the best comedy group we've ever seen on tv! I've got their vinyl album "The Goodies Sing Songs From The Goodies", its brilliant! They did very inventive comedy indeed! Bill Oddie wrote all the songs.
When I was a child I thought that Graeme Garden looked really old. Funny, now I'm 40 I still think he looks old. Really Like Tim Brooke-Taylor's 'Purdy'-style haircut!
I loved it. The words song and rhythm just right. I might have been 16 when the Goodies were on TV. Takes me back to young days living at home no worries.
Bill's loving it, Tim's going along with it, but you can tell that Graeme doesn't really wanna be there! Although, it is my favourite song from the Goodies! Thanks for this!
GG later admitted as much in an interview. He said Bill wanted to be a pop star anyway and Tim was fearless and would do anything, while he just felt like a fool. I love it too though!
"The Goodies are like a cross between the musical group the 'The Monkeys' and monty python" - quite right! They were a branch on the same comedy tree as MP (Tim worked with John Cleese several times), and this song is a wonderful spoof of 70's music and dances. It is good but far from their best. I think Bill Oddie wrote it, it is his style. "Give me an O" is brilliant - if you ever heard songs where the audience spells out the band's name! That was common back then.
RIP Tim. You were part of my childhood growing up watching the Goodies. Your humour will be missed. So sad a man made virus took you suddenly rather than old age expiring you naturally ❤️
G the world would be good I know how nice it could B with just a little gibbon take B just like that gibbon O you feel the rhythm N you'll groove and dance up to the planet of the apes Genius!
I remember my mate Tim and some others doing the funky gibbon dance route barrack block when we returned from the Gulf in ‘91. This became a bit of a ritual before going out for beers. I now know where the crazy ape-like sounds come from!
I love how Graeme just goes rather discreetly 'The Funky Gibbon' lol Oh and isn't little Bill just going for it! WOO! And Tim....well uber funky as usual! Love these dudes. Thanks for uploading
Its an injustice that bands like the Goodies never got the credit they deserved. They should have had many more hits, still what does the music industry know anyway.
Oh dear... I used to have bit of a crush on Tim (and graeme) ... but I still adore them! (and now have a mild crush on Bill!) Excellent vid - makes me smile still :)
i agree with you all the way man The Goodies are amazing they made tv worth watching , thank god for VHS and DVD's of the Goodies otherwise we would be stuck with serious shit 24/7
I am still laughing. Love crazy things like this. Let your hair down and dance. Guess how the funky chix also made it really big time. :-))) Laughter is soooo needed. Thanks Mark. :-)))
I have a bad habit of saying Uh uh uh when something goes wrong in cooking but I can still save it, or in housework, baking, anything not too serious. Everytime I say it, my partner sings uh uh uh the funky gibbon :) Fun at home :)
When I was a kid we found a bloke called Mr Gibbons in the phone directory. We phoned him up a few times and went "Do - do - do - the funky gibbon, etc." down the phone at him. That was the height of entertainment when I was 10. DC
My Dad was that Mr.Gibbon!

I met Tim Brooke-Taylor many years ago along with Bill Oddie and Graeme Garden when appearing as an extra on the Goodies way back in 1981, 13 years old.

R.I.P Tim. Loved The goodies as a kid never missed it!
This is my favourite gibbon-themed song of all time!
Hang on…it’s the ONLY Gibbon-themed song 😂
Tie a yellow gibbon round the old oak tree. That still plays in my head 47 years on (aged 56 but mental age 9).
I just this minute laughed at that line. Lol
I love that line!
Serious question from a black guy. Why isn't this recognized as the earliest rap song, this predates rappers delight by 4 years.
Because there were many rap records before rappers delight. Rappers Delight was the first big international hit. This was a local lol, massive difference. U-Roy was toasting on vinyl since the late 60s in Jamaica
I absolutely love the sound of that Hohner D6 Clavinet bubbling along in the background - Bill Oddie knew what funk was about...
The Goodies are easily the best comedy group we've ever seen on tv! I've got their vinyl album "The Goodies Sing Songs From The Goodies", its brilliant! They did very inventive comedy indeed! Bill Oddie wrote all the songs.
Well, he co-wrote them with Dave MacRae...
An often overlooked masterpiece. Right up there for me.
Right up there with what, exactly?
Bohemuin rapsody
Bless you Tim. You're so loved, and will be missed forever. Sleep easy, Sir. xxx
ah my childhood in the 70's was awesome
, thankfully I never went on Jim'll Fix It
50 years on I’m still smiling watching this.
When I was a child I thought that Graeme Garden looked really old. Funny, now I'm 40 I still think he looks old. Really Like Tim Brooke-Taylor's 'Purdy'-style haircut!
The Goodies . . . . .
Goody , Goody , minus One.
RIP TBT
Lesssss gooooooo
Aw, the madness of the 70s.
Am currently watching the Goodies on That'sTv - so funny that it now comes with a trigger warning!
I loved it. The words song and rhythm just right. I might have been 16 when the Goodies were on TV. Takes me back to young days living at home no worries.
Brings back so many happy memories of my childhood. R I P Tim.
R.I.P. Tim Brooke-Taylor (1940-2020), everything will still be Goody Goody Yum Yum!
What sad news. Rest in peace Tim. I loved the Goodies
This was certainly one of the songs of all time.
I love this!! They weren't trying to be artists, they did this all in the name of comedy:)
a blast from the past lol
RIP Tim
you've mad us laugh & now crying , Rest In Peace
Bill's loving it, Tim's going along with it, but you can tell that Graeme doesn't really wanna be there!
Although, it is my favourite song from the Goodies!
Thanks for this!
GG later admitted as much in an interview. He said Bill wanted to be a pop star anyway and Tim was fearless and would do anything, while he just felt like a fool.
I love it too though!
The Funky Clavi on this track is awesome. Bill Oddie is a funk genius!
R.I.P Tim. I still love this song
"The Goodies are like a cross between the musical group the 'The Monkeys' and monty python" - quite right! Whats the problem? This is one of the best things they did...they know how to laugh at themselves...and kids LOVE it!

Love these dudes. Thanks for uploading

When this came out i was working on the gas board the supervisors name was mr gibbons guess what all the staff sang in the morning when he came in.
Its an injustice that bands like the Goodies never got the credit they deserved.
They should have had many more hits, still what does the music industry know anyway.
Their Wild Thing cover is way better than the original.
Bounce was a classic!
The 70s were great times for music but this was one of the few exceptions .
Pure art.
I have loved the goodies like forever.
Bill was my favorite, I always liked the hairy ones.
Oh dear... I used to have bit of a crush on Tim (and graeme) ... but I still adore them! (and now have a mild crush on Bill!)
Excellent vid - makes me smile still :)

Sad to see Covid 19 as claimed the life of a Goodie! Watching this brings back happy memories! RIP Tim
Possibly the best thing on this site. AMAZING!
In my opinion VA brilliant party song timeless classic brilliant live
The Alvin Stardust touch is the best. Still remember it 47 years on.
I remember those geezers. They had their own tv show in the 60's. It was broadcasted here in Sweden as well.
The song has been Re-released for Xmas 2010 for the Save The Gibbon charity as part of The International Primate Protection League.
R.I.P Tim Brooke Taylor.
RIP a friend of mine Mark 'Funky' Gibbon who sadly died last week!
The pioneers of rap.
RIP Tim Brooke taylor

This is 3 comedians at there best. Just wish there was more of this now. Everything is far to serious these days!!!
Graham once said that “Bill was in his element, Tim was just fearless…I felt like a dad at a disco” or words to that effect
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC WELL DONE WIGGY FOR LOADING THIS. BILL IS RE-RELEASING THIS TO HELP FUND A SANCTUARY FOR ORANG-UTANGS IN BORNEO.
I am still laughing. Love crazy things like this. Let your hair down and dance. Guess how the funky chix also made it really big time. :-))) Laughter is soooo needed. Thanks Mark. :-)))
Mums got this single in her record collection still.
I love this song. It's on my MP3 player along with "Wild Thing". :3
The fact that they went on to make Bananaman allows me to forgive them for this.
R.I.P Tim Brook Taylor! :(
I remmeber this its great to see again after 20ys
Apparently Oddie's very musically inclined. I like him, he's a character! I seem to remember him being rather guumpy in the Goodies!

R.I.P Tim xx
I have a bad habit of saying Uh uh uh when something goes wrong in cooking but I can still save it, or in housework, baking, anything not too serious. Everytime I say it, my partner sings uh uh uh the funky gibbon :) Fun at home :)
Tim RIP remember this when I was a nipper
top of the pops , because the DJ tells you which music to like
Bill Oddie should be credited for inventing modern rap music. The begining part of the song is 4 years ahead of its time.
'let your wrist go limp like a bent baboon'-you wouldn't get away with that now lol!
ah wowza! wish i was in the studio for this one
love it!!!
Now this is the kind of nonsense, fun song we need in the charts today. Well, it sounds better that all the other crap that's in it.
Andy Stenson That's why we have Jedward!
This is my first time hearing this song and I actually quite like it, rest in peace, Tim.
Creepy
How very true!
