    I'm a recent oldish (60yo) convert to cycling. You inspire me with these videos to keep bashing away up my local climbs around Sheffield and the Peak District. Thanks.

      Thank you, you're very kind! 🙏 And that's a great effort to be riding around Sheffield and the surrounding area - it's a tough area! The best advice I can give is to make sure you've got some low gears on the bike and to keep chipping away...

    Did this today in perfect conditions and after riding up Fleet Moss. Brilliant ride and amazing scenery. Totalled 46.7 miles and 4550 feet of climbing. I think my legs are going to hurt tomorrow.

      It's harder than you think it should be is Park Rash. I came to that conclusion the first time I rode it, got past the hairpins and then discovered the 400m of 18% straight ahead of me. Chapeau for making it up as I know how ugly it can get if you hit the first ramp too hard! Hope the legs are OK today...

      Breaking News.... having done Cross of Greet, Bowland Knotts, Buttertubs and now Fleet Moss and Park Rash all in the last few weeks, I must be getting fitter as my legs don't hurt at all today. Where next?

      Whoops, I missed Lamps Moss, on the way to Tan Hill, off the list.

      Hmmm. We-ell, if you're happy in the Hawes area, then I can commend Oxnop Scar, Greets Moss, Turf Moor, Fleak Moss, The Electric Gate Climb and The Stang. If you fancy a change of scene, there's always The Lakes (Honister, Whinlatter, Newlands, The Struggle...) or, if you're feeling brave, Halifax/Hevden Bridge with such gems as Dog House Lane, Mytholm Steeps, Heptonstall Road, Shibden Wall, Halifax Lane, Trooper Lane ...

      Thanks for the lengthy reply. Owning some of your books, I already have my eye on a couple of the ones you list. Keep the tweets coming as well.

    Did this on Yorkshire Beast this year - oh my days! Think all the miles leading up to it may have taken their toll but I gave up and walked a bit just after the 25% section. Just couldn't be arsed by that point lol 😆

      Good effort for giving it a go! That section after the bends is what makes Park Rash so hard: you think you’re done and you’re just not. Don’t blame you for walking- sometimes it’s the only choice!

    ok I just realised *you* are the 100 climb guy - wow! I have 100 climbs books 1 & 2! Not ticked off many though...yet.

      Thank you, you're very kind. Good effort on starting on the book - it's taken me a while to get to just about through the first two books. And, whilst I'm not Simon Warren himself, you can see him on the video I took when I rode the 2022 British National Hillclimb Championship race: he's the rider who goes off before me...

      @@WheelygoodCycling ah right, well anyway thanks for documenting all the climbs... I was thinking I might nip up to kettlewell in the car and give this one a try maybe tomorrow, although I'm a bit worried I might keel over..

      @WheelygoodCycling  Місяць тому

      No worries! Enjoy if you make it across to Kettlewell; you’d also be very close to Kidstones Pass, which is in the Yorkshire book…

      @@WheelygoodCyclinghello, finally did park rash this morning! Quite a hard start but then it's not too bad... Even on top of the two hours it took me to ride there haha. Not sure it's a 9/10 for hardness. Unfortunately the top was just cloud. Did kidstones last year and wasn't aware there was a Yorkshire book?! Must get that. Cheers again it's fun seeing the hills before trying

    Yep, it definitely is that long drag to the trees that strikes you down. A lot of people weave around there, and for good reason. The 25% section is mercifully short, though If you had some catastrophic bad luck and encountered a car that forced you over to the left on the left hand hairpin, the consequences don't bear thinking about. Also important to watch the weather: that Coverdale road is notorious for the strong winds that funnel through between Buckden Pike and Great Whernside. Anyone fancy a nice headwind on that long drag? ;-)

    • @WheelygoodCycling
      @WheelygoodCycling  4 роки тому

      Very true! The 25% is also made easier by being the bit people know about, so you get yourself psyched up to get past it ... and then the _real_ clim starts... I’d rather not imagine riding it into a headwind, if that’s OK!

    • @WheelygoodCycling
      @WheelygoodCycling  4 роки тому +2

      It’s a _proper_ climb, that one... It’s the bit _after_ the hairpin which always does me in - that extended ramp at 18% just doesn’t give in... 😂

    • @siennamayh
      @siennamayh 4 роки тому

      Wheelygood Cycling another one I did in thick fog. The first hairpin was clear but then coupling see much further up. Not sure if that helps or hinders. At least you aren’t seeing it stretch off ahead !

    • @WheelygoodCycling
      @WheelygoodCycling  4 роки тому

      Brave man! I can’t imagine riding up there in the fog - the idea of not knowing if a car is coming down what is quite a narrow road is ... interesting ... 😳
