Sometimes I like to lie down in the dark and listen to this. It’s so personal, so raw and private. I feel like I’m listening to some lost melody from another time.
Thanks for fulfilling my fantasy of being a time traveller, Roger. Stay well old boy.

I just got the CD "Flickering Flame" in the mail today. There where no lyrics so I found the song here w/lyrics first. I am flabbergasted. I cant believe with all the music of his that I know completely, I had never heard this song. Its one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Bravo, Roger.

Remember seeing him play this at the Albert hall..about 2002..(maybe 2003)..then had the pleasure of meeting him after. You worry that if you ever get to talk to the person you've followed and admired all your teenage and adult life, they might actually turn out to be a prick ..he wasn't..he was a gentleman .

      LUCKY YOU, indeed!
You probably would have gotten a different impression of Roger if you'd met him thirty, or even twenty, years earlier. As he himself said in 1980, " I don't like strangers coming up, like they know me -- I don't want to talk to strangers. When they do come up, my vibes say 'I don't want you around', so they don't over-stay their welcome."
The man seems to have changed completely. He has found a way to make a meaningful connection with a large audience. More importantly, he's grateful for his fans. For the first time in his career, he appears to relish performing onstage. The most obvious indication is how often he smiles and laughs in interviews nowadays. (And in and odd twist of fate, David Gilmour has somehow become the scowly one.)
Leaving Pink Floyd was the healthiest thing Roger Waters could have ever done for himself.

Same here, seriously. In a real way, I am glad this song is relatively unknown. It gives me a real sense of peace to listen to it and it would lose something to me if it were all over the place, ha.

Saw roger play this at the Timothy White tribute show in Boston in 2002. Fantastic experience, full band led by legendary session musician Waddy Wachtel. It had a pennywhistle solo, it was fantastic.

It is "Petit théâtre" (a little theatre) not "pied-à-terre" (foot on ground = small house or flat in town), hence the reference to the theatre curtain.

Ben Culture,, your so right. That's why it made it so magical. I appreciated it for what it was. We all grow and evolve eh ( yeah, Sunday night I'm up still being stupid at 40 but you get my point) can you imagian how I'd of felt if he'd of been a c**t to me?? All those years of thinking he was the dogs bollocks wasted?? Ha. Anyway,, he was the dogs,,, completely. Remember hitting the phone box (no mobile was 2002) ringing my big brother who's responsible for my roger waters addiction, in Auzz and getting him out of bed. Call me a sad arse but when my body gives up and I'm laying in bed thinking of my happy days,, that day shall be there,,,shining.

a loving light a flames our day the rush came over the oneness we all cant explain a mystery with a refridgerated unit we go thru changes with a cycle to breaking down liting up being a harmonised with pain and love is hard but a mans job to see help is always needed . Some where we have been just put out as hearts that once unified agains terror and became the rising suns of love ...s power ..

I love Roger's music, and will unquestionably buy his next album the day it is released. But I do not care for this song at all. I'm glad it's just a demo. I don't like Bob-Dylan-esque (or Leonard-Cohen-like) songs with just the three main chords. It doesn't matter how great the lyrics are, if all we hear are C, F, and G in first position. Likewise, even the best lyrics need a singable melody. I hope he and his band will rework the arrangement significantly.

+Ben Culture I don't know this sounds like a guy just showing himself with his words in the end that's what a lyricists does, happy, angry or what ever maybe it brings some peace to himself anyway I'm one who enjoyed I guess that's enough for me.

I completely disagree. I've always loved the simplest songs. The kind you can play sitting on the porch with just a guitar. Buy hey, that's just me.

      Agreed.
Except Bob Dylan has had some really memorable tunes. Blowing In The Wind, Tambourine Man, Like A Rolling Stone, to speak of a few.

Completely misses the point, more than any comment I've ever seen in a thread. One of Waters' most brilliant musical compositions - musical brilliance is not related to chordal complexity, it's defined by the ideas within. And this music stands with the best of Floyd.
