    Used to have a red Model X 100D with 6 seat and white interior, but went with a Model Y performance when we changed in December… we absolutely loved our Model X, and in my opinion this new Model X is better than the Model Y in almost every way (except maybe sporty driving). The falcon wing doors are absolutely amazing when you have to load in and out of the car, also children. However.. it costs more than twice as much here in Norway, and while it is amazing, I am not sure it is worth more than twice as much, 50% more would make more sense in my opinion.

      I've never driven an X, but I do agree that the Model Y likely handles better since it's smaller and built on the model 3 platform. I'm sure the model X is no slouch in terms of handling.

    Tesla should consider changing the Model X to the length of a minivan. This would provide more battery capacity, increased range, and additional interior space, allowing them to capture a larger market share in the minivan segment. It's important to retain the unique wing doors as they contribute to the vehicle's distinct identity.

    For your question at 4:30 i have to say, with pricing changes in the US i was considering the Model Y much more than i though i would when cross-shopping with the Ford Mach E. I know the Tesla has more range (only long range in the US) and more efficiency, but the interior is what sealed the deal. It just feels like a box with a monitor, a steering wheel and seats. If they had a HUD or even a small display like in Mach E I might have gone for it, but if I wanted a high price and less features i would just buy a Porsche 🤣

    Such a great review - thanks Thomas. I am a MYP owner today, and have considered an upgrade to the MXP. Your review confirms a lot of my own perceptions, and I would add the MXP weighs very nearly 1,000 lbs more than the MYP! And so the fun factor goes down as weight goes up. I like the air suspension, seats and big windshield of the MX but far prefer the size/weight, agility and fun of the MY, at half the cost.

    • @don.newlon
      @don.newlon Рік тому

      @@theokteamathalsteadpropert9854 Three things: first, it will depend on what you're used to. Second, a lot of the reviews are misplaced now - there was a recent change to the Model Y and MYP (search Comfort Suspension) that added compliance. Further, there have been a number of changes over time, so reviews of MY or MYP using cars older than about Nov '22 are no longer relevant. Third, my 2/21 build felt too firm with the Pirelli summer rubber, but the Michelin Pilot All Seasons I put on were a game-changer, which is possibly a part of what's now called Comfort Suspension.

    I agree on the steering setting in sport on model Y.
    On which car to choose. Right now.. If you pick 22" wheels on the X, then you can buy 3 TMY performance for the same price in Denmark.
    I would take a TMY LR for everyday and a TM3 performance and tweak it with Öhlins suspension and better brakes for fun😊 or go for a model S Plaid. That should do the corners better than the X. Or just the TMY performance and invest the rest.

    The suspension communication is more interesting in use, ime. Why? Because of the high quality of the seat comfort. So, you are aware of the bumpiness of the road surface. The high complexity level of seat comfort reduces the physical impact on me. I can enjoy the driving involvement experience without it tiring me. Is there room for better mapping of the high-speed compression damping? Yes.

    If the steering feel can be at least half as good as Porsche, that's a win.

    Is Tesla a premium brand? More premium than VW, that's for sure. I had a few VWs and they all had hard plastic somewhere (the Jetta and Golf Plus literally everywhere), some noise or rattle and something not working. So Tesla is a better VW IMO, the materials Tesla uses are better nowadays than VW. Anyway, I care more about things like safety, efficiency, performance, range, charging and user interaction which Tesla is also the best. I personally don't care about luxury and on 1000 km road trips Teslas are totally comfortable for me. I find it strange that people have 50 franc IKEA chairs in their living rooms and somehow need crazy massage seats for the 15 minute drive to the grocery store... I'll take a Tesla minimalist interior over a strip club benz interior any day. Other EV owners are afraid of road trips, other ICE owners are afraid of anything with a PLAID emblem... but ok let's go nuts over some trunk carpet that I always cover with a full trunk protection rubber mat anyway... that's why German brands are behind, they focus on pointless details then get left behind on what matters: the technology, the charging experience, the efficiency and of course reliability. Have a look at all the tycans with failing heating systems...

    I've had two Y loaners when my MXP was in for service (post delivery issues). The Y may feel more agile but it's a distance second to the MXP in handling when you put the suspension into Very Low and Sport. It out corners and out handles the Y in any combination of short and long radius turns.....especially on not so perfect roads where the Y feels like it's going to skitter off the road. The Y's suspension is just too stiff yet the MXPs suspension is more compliant and predictable in hard cornering. Is it worth twice the MYP? Not for most. A better comparison might be the MYP with the MLR since the MLR will still out acceleration the MYP from highway roll (not from a dead stop though) and costs quite a bit less.

  • @PQV-8898
    @PQV-8898 Рік тому

    We have a Tesla Model Y (with acceleration pkg add-on) and by no means is it a perfect vehicle but for us it is perfect blend of sporty driving, performance and more importantly utility. For an SUV with a small footprint it has a deceivingly large amount of storage and cargo space. Much bigger than my previous BMW X5 which has a larger overall exterior dimensions. The X is out of the question for us as we go skiing a lot and need to put a roof box on top.

  •  Рік тому +1

    I've been driving the X Plaid for nearly two months now and I have to say, it was a breeze to get used to the yoke-style steering wheel. It also provides a better view of the dashboard and I don't see what all the fuss is about.
    However, the buttons to activate the turn signals took a bit longer to get the hang of. I was surprised that this wasn't more widely mentioned. On the highway, it's not a problem, but when it comes to turning out of a roundabout, that's when you need to activate the right turn signal, and the button can be somewhere between 6 or 3 o'clock, depending on the size of the roundabout. With some practice, you learn to locate them by feel, as they are located on the left spoke of the yoke.
    This is where the yoke-style wheel really shines - you always know where the spokes are, as that's where your hands are. This makes it easier to find the turn signal buttons without having to look. On the other hand, if you opt for a traditional circular steering wheel, it might be more difficult. In my opinion, it would be a mistake.

    Good review. i had the model y long range for more than 2 yrs, love the size of it, very practical, good storage space, ride smoothly on flat roads, but really don't like it without the digital cluster in the front, i found it very distractive to look at the map in the center screen everytime. also it's kind of bumpy on the rough roads. Was thinking to upgrade to MX for better comfort level and with the digital cluster, but i hate the yoke (didn't have the normal one option when i planned to order), and the falcon wing doors just look good but not practical, also as you mentioned, it's double the price of MY, which i don't think it's justify. So i shopped around with other EVs, and finally got the BMW IX50 in jan. So far it's very great, the OTA and softeware is not up to Tesla's level yet, but it's much more comfortable, feel safer to drive with all the pre-acciedent alert, 360 degree camera and so on. i am happy and no regret 🙂

      @@autogefuehl They upgraded MYLR 2023 (German made) to a better ride, more sophisticated suspension, so in my opinion if you want more confort ride the MYLR with 19" (or even 20" if you like better looks) should ride better than MYP with 21". Also for more performance on MYLR you can always get the acceleration boost from the app, that will decrease your acceleration 0-100km/h from 5s to 4.4s (same figure as M3LR without the boost) which should be plenty for majority of people. Of course MYP has also improved brakes, so if you value more performance that would be the way to go.

      the advantage to the yoke is full view of screen directly in front of the driver so nothing is being cut off. it also forces you to take hand positions 8 and 3 which is actually the safest hand position not 9 and 2. and the horns relocation button is an airbag safety feature. when honking in a normal car and the airbag goes off your hand will go right into your face and break some bones. with me new horn location your hand will go outward and not become one with your face.

Maybe could eek out 290/300 miles. Pretty impressive I’d say. (Car is 1 month old).

Still I belong to that group of people who think that classic physical controls are better than delegating everything to the one screen - a one single point of failure.
