- The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office released this security camera footage, showing Naya Rivera and her son arriving at Lake Piru to rent a pontoon boat on Wednesday, July 8. The two departed the dock on a boat, traveling north on the lake at approximately 1 p.m. The actress was reported missing after another boater discovered her son, Josey, in the boat by himself approximately three hours after they left the dock. Josey told authorities that his mother went into the water for a swim, but never came back up or returned to the boat.

I think this was a suicide, i think she waited her son to fall asleep and she started the suicide think. I think she knows he never remember her face,voice and the thinks she did to him again after a year. With him years is impossible to know the feeling to loose the mum.
There's something wrong with this scenario. She had to be under the influence of something because of the way she parked, and she didn't even turn around to check on her son going to the dock. Also, what possessed her to be the only adult on this boating trip? I see red flags everywhere.

she could have parked that way on purpose to give a full view of her plate to the camera she knew the location of.
There’s nothing fishy about this, Naya is just an ordinary mom she’s a human being just like us she’s not a superhuman but she is a good mother. She did help her son getting out of the car. She keeps looking back to making sure her son is walking not far behind. Please, judgmental is the last thing that we all need right now.

Usually an employee at the boat rental place helps them get situated before they leave the dock. I think the third person leaves and goes back to the employee tent.

My boyfriend went through a very similar situation as a child & his father passed away. When we started dating, I asked him if he felt uncomfortable being around water. He said that he decided not to let that traumatic experience make him stop enjoying something he loved so much & overcame his fear not too long after it happened. Some people are so incredibly strong.♥️

It IS weird. Maybe she felt comfortable enough and that’s why but yes, it is weird. It’s weird for the same reason women always go to the bathroom together when they’re out drinking. Men don’t do that. Why? So they don’t get taken advantage of or overpowered. Why do women feel scared walking alone at night and men don’t? Men and women are built differently. And let’s be honest, mostly men are into fishing and stuff. Not saying that women can’t be. Men just happen to have more of an interest in it and therefore, probably know more or are more equipped. They too should at least have another adult and sometimes men just overestimate their abilities. So of course no ones going to ask that question about a father and son.

Going swimming is way different then staying on a boat and fishing. The fact that this happened only supports the argument of having another adult especially in such a large body of water. If she was in distress in the water someone would be there to help her.

They took his statement...apparently they went swimming and she didnt get back on the boat...how did he manage to get on alone. They found him asleep on the boat. He could have been out there for hours or minutes.
That's what I don't get. Did he sleep before she jumped in the water ? Or after he didn't find his mom ? Or maybe did they swim together then she helped him get on the boat and told him that she'll be back and he slept while waiting ?

This does some odd, like how did the boat get so far that she literally died because by the time she swam back to it she was just too tired and just drowned?! It just doesn’t make any sense at all to me or where they’re getting those details about her last moments because I’ve heard what her son said and he never said anything about the boat drifting off and having to get back to it so where the hell are they getting that from? I wonder if they thought we wouldn’t question things since they painted her as dying as a hero to save her son, I mean we all want to believe that over her being hurt etc so we will just take that story without questioning it at all? She seems very annoyed with her son. I agree her hands are full and perhaps she couldn't hold his, but she walks noticeably ahead of him as if he isn't even there. I don't think she appears frightened at all. I think she appears to be pissed. Maybe he was tired or unhappy on the way to the lake, and she had had enough. If you're concerned for your safety, would you just leave a small child toggling 8 feet behind you?

I know there are two rumours that 1. She and her son swam and she lifted him back into the boat and then she just 'disappeared.' That just sounds weird. The CNN version where her son says she jumped in the water and he never saw her again sounds more plausible. Really tragic.

@@miahoran2914 The Lake Store building is right above the parking lot. I am sure this footage was shot from that location. I also think it's probably pretty common at boat ramps for people to park far out to make room for vehicles towing boat trailers. I know I do just to decrease the chances my truck will be hit by some inexperienced driver trying to move a boat for the first time. Plus, with Covid going on and her being a lone woman with a small child there are plenty of reasons for her to want to park her car out away from others vehicles just to be safe.

It’s most likely an accident. If it was indeed suicide then I can’t see why she’d bring her kid along, unless she planned on a suicide/murder which is horrific and then just bailed last minute and couldn’t do it. She could’ve easily dropped her kid with a nanny or family if she intended on taking her life. No chance she meant to die, again, unless she was planning on taking her 4 year old with her. With things like this you have to take in all things tho. To rule out the only physical evidence besides her son seems dismissive. They'll have to collect or write things down that make u go "hmmm" and go from there.

Haha! Yeah there's not much to do out there with places being closed. I think that's why so many people have been involved in this mystery. For me I love watching Forensic Files so these type of stories always catch my attention. Anyway, since that first day she went missing I said it was a suicide and people got mad at me. I just thought it was suspicious how her kid said they went swimming but she never came back out of the water. Funny how many people are thinking the same thing now.

I don't want to think that this was a murder-suicide situation, but at the last minute she couldn't bring herself to harm her son yet she took her own life. Maybe she gave him something to sleep to make it easier, but then backed out on the plan, left him sleeping thinking he would be found . Just a thought.
I just replied something similar before I read your comment. While it is horrible to even consider, I agree with you. The ONLY reason she would bring her child if she had planned to die this day would be if she was planning on ending both their lives. Makes no sense to intentionally leave him alone out on the boat. I’m with you though, if it was indeed suicide, I’m betting she had a more grim plan in mind for her kid, why I have no idea. Is there dispute with the father or family? If so that could make sense ima horrific way. Either this was a tragic freak accident or she couldn’t bring herself to take her child’s life and left him there with this PFD on. I'm so confused about the bag situation... yesterday I heard from some news that they discovered it was Naya Rivera because they found her belongings in the car, someone asked how would she rent a boat without her ID and money/card? So I was expecting her to bring her bag back to the car. But now that I watch this footage I realize that not only did she not bring her bag back to the car, but that they took with them a dark colored backpack and a big white bag for her and a smaller white bag for the Josey. Did she have multiple IDs, on her and in the car? Did she disappear with the bags? Did the investigators find the bags on the boat and probably didn't find anything suspicious? This is what I don't like about the media! Everybody changes the story's details and then nothing adds up and everyone ends up more confused and worried!

They’ll need to call people, track her movements for the day & try to establish her state of mind at the time. That can’t all be done in two days. Also, California goes through rain/drought cycles. A lake that’s 75 ft deep today could well have been 125 ft deep 5 years ago. I went back to Lake Shasta in NorCal about 5 years ago & I hadn’t been there in many years. Well, the lake had dropped a good 80-100 ft during that drought. What was a very deep lake 30 years ago wasn’t nearly as deep when I was there. Now, it may have recovered it’s previous depth by now, I don’t know. The point is, things are complicated & shit takes time to figure out. That doesn’t mean people are being deceitful or there’s a conspiracy going on. It could simply mean that they haven’t gotten a return call from a key witness. Just relax, everyone.

Because I do (one is also 4) and I always hold his hand in a parking lot and go slowly at his own pace. I am believing more and more that her death was suicide! This whole case seems off to me. Who goes out on a boat at the riskiest deep big rivers In California to swim!?!? No one is around. Who parks their car alone? She must have been distracted. She's walking in front of him carelessly without holding his hand and he's like 4 years old. Why would you even wanna swim I a horror looking lake like that? What's that telling you psychologically? She suffered from s lot of guilt and depression. Maybe she thought about taking her son's life too but couldn't? She didn't want to do it, so she left him on a boat to die? And what's with the captions on her latest Instagram posts? "Just the two of us" which is also a title written by Eminem about his child's mother in the river (google the song and you'll automatically see comments about Naya. People are starting to realize something isn't right with this case.) Naya wasn't the happiest person and she def struggled with her sexual orientation of her being bisexual, body self-shame, being bipolar, drugs, relationships, having an abortion, and a divorce. I'm glad that the boy stayed on the boat asleep. It wasn't meant for him to die.

For me it was only an accident. Cause she always said he was the love of her life. She would never do something bad to him (that's why he was wearing the life vest and she wasn't). Someone said this was a place she frequented alot, so she probably had a license to drive a boat. She lived an affluent life style as an actress so boating is something rich people enjoy.
I'm from Florida it's not that unheard of for experienced boaters or someone familiar with the area to take a boat out by themselves. She probably felt safe boating there.

Sadly she said in a cryptic message (and there is a now eerie video in a bath tub going underwater )4 months ago gravity was pulling her under water and she struggled to breath. It was an orchestrated suicide. I'm full of joy she let her son live and knowing the rented boat would need to be accounted for by end of day. She did jump in yes. ..then she let the current take her life. She seemed very depressed and like the type of person that would want this mysterious ending. It looked like she was carrying something heavy maybe she used it to weigh her down into the deepest part of the water she was very thin? Or she is stuck in the debris. Or both. It’s a big lake. The camera probably only covers the docks. They’re there a security measure for the boats, not for monitoring people on the lake. Her accident didn’t happen in the part of the lake covered by the camera.

You can get into trouble really easily with open water swimming, the conditions are so different to swimming in a pool. Experienced swimmers drown. It's notable that the boat wasn't anchored...I wonder whether they perhaps both jumped in, but the son got back on before she did and the boat drifted in the wind. Maybe she panicked and tried to catch up with the boat and never made it. It's so, so sad - neither of them deserve this.
This theory actually makes a lot of sense. It does seem like she drowned but I’m having trouble seeing how this beautiful, healthy, vibrant young woman could just drown on chance and for no given reason at least that we have right now. The hypothermia theory that the police have makes no sense because Josey was apparently in the water too and he would have had it as well. The only other theory I’ve seen that I think is feasible is that she hit her head on the boat while coming back up from the water. So so sad.

I think it's weird that woman goes alone middle of 9 meters deep lake to swim with 4 year old. If I would have 4 year old, we would stay near the seashore or in children's swimming pool, if jumping to swim from boat there should be another adult to keep the boat near by... makes no sense
