Simon Stephens on The Funfair

- A society coming out of austerity, dealing with poverty, facing the rise of the right wing.
Simon Stephens hadn’t banked on his play, The Funfair - an adaptation of Ödön von Horváth’s Kasimir and Karoline - opening so close to a General Election. Yet so much of Horváth’s original, written at a time of economic crisis, feels timely now.
Dark, political and very funny, Horváth’s play sets two young lovers in the throes of a break up against the hypnotic whirl of a funfair. Simon's adaptation transports the play to a contemporary landscape, where a roar of defiance rages against the threat of a rising right wing.
The Funfair runs from Thu 14 May - Sat 13 Jun 2015. Find out more and book tickets here bit.ly/1yIH8Ib
