@@PizzaFLIX I think that was just about perfect. One thing about loving old movies, is that it's not hard to convince yourself that the history is entirely factual. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, and sometimes it's pointing in the right or wrong direction. So context matters.
You know, sometimes it doesn't matter if the story and the production are good enough, and it's far enough in the past that we know we don't have all the details.
I'm thinking of movies like "The Passion of Joan of Arc" or "A Lion in Winter".
Keep up the good work, Mister Flix!👍

ERICH VON STROHEIM was a movie maker and he made outrageous movies. Long to short, Gloria Swanson, who was funding one of God films, walked on the set and immediately pulled all her money out. She said there was more film on the cutting room floor than in the projector. His most famous film is probably Sunset Boulevard, with Gloria Swanson. I am one of his biggest fans! 1:44:42 - This is an absolutely fascinating part of this movie, when the doctor moralizes, because it gives a moral message about fighting Nazis in 1943. The gist of the idea is that there is no such thing as a good Nazi; just bad and worse. Kill them all.
Remember that it’s a propaganda film. Delivered at the height of the war when the tide had shifted, it’s saying “Kill them all and let God sort them out.” Soviets were now honourable and aggrieved allies, and Germans were enemies to whom no quarter was to be given.

@@PizzaFLIX It's not a coffee kettle. It's called a samovar, used to make tea. Water is heated in the bottom urn. There's a spigot to put the boiling water into a teapot. Then the teapot goes on top where the tea steeps & stays hot.

He was also a rabid racist… but, if you know your history, the Allies needed Russia’s help in WWII… They were integral in defeating the Germans. Hitler’s armies getting bogged down in the brutal winter weather in Russia was instrumental in putting the final nail in German war in Europe. BTW- does it upset you that America brought nazi war criminal scientists into our country after the war? There are levels to this war shit, bruh…

a really good quality print. Thank you. And well done James Wong Howe. The film itself is the most awful twaddle even for 1940's propaganda standards. There isn't a single believable or realistic scene in it (though the actors do what they can). I had to force myself to watch it through to the end. I can't imagine what the moviegoers of the time would have been thinking as they exited the theatre. It is amusing though to see America's fear of communism thrown out the window with such abandon!

Thanks for posting unexpurgated version of this film as opposed to Armored Attack which has a tacked on coda that is inane and spoils Hellman’s intention… No matter how misguided. The Deer Hunter is a masterpiece and possibly one of the greatest anti-war films in film history. However ,the “ Russian roulette “ scenes are pure Codswallop …larded with racist overtones. Would I have preferred that they be censored or cut from the film? Absolutely Not!!! Art is not to be cut to fit the cloth of the times . Aaron Copland’s score is brilliant . My favorite line from this film is the last one: “ The earth belongs to us if we but take it. And, We Will Take it”… The film serves its purpose as war propaganda to encourage audiences ,whose sons were off fighting in Europe , that the cause was worthy of the sacrifice .

It tells you just how brutal the Stalinist regime was that many Ukrainians saw Hitler as a liberator. The history of nowhere in Central Europe is black & white, it's been a mess of shifting shades of grey since the Middle Ages.
