    Lonesome Dove has been on my TBR for years; maybe this will be the summer to tackle it! The big book I'm currently reading The Winners (Beartown #3) by Fredrik Backman.

      I enjoyed Beartown but haven't read the rest of the series. It was good but SO dark. Are the next two books as dark?

    Nice Friday Reads Sue! I tried Lonesome Dove years ago I put it down because I did not like it's slow start, I recently picked it up again from my local bookstore, I might give it another try. I would like to start a fantasy trilogy by R. Scott Bakker. Those would count for the big book summer.

      Oh it is perfect for a lazy summer. It starts slowly, but fully envelopes you. I felt I was part of the book, totally immersed. I hope you like it on your 2nd try.

    Lonesome Dove one of my favorites. I also read The Women and loved it. My husband is a drafted Vietnam Vet who does not speak of the war still suffers with PTSD and my motivation for reading this was to try and gain some idea of what he endured both in Vietnam and his treatment returning home. This book certainly opened my eyes and broke my heart.
    I am currently reading Pride and Prejudice.

    • @SueJacksonDE
      @SueJacksonDE  4 місяці тому

      Sorry to hear about your husband's continuing struggles. I had a cousin and an uncle who were drafted and went to Vietnam - changed them both forever. My uncle died young of multiple cancers caused by Agent Orange. I agree The Women was eye-opening. Pride and Prejudice should be an easier read - hope you're enjoying it.

    Im so happy you are loving this book. I was spellbound, and it felt like a beautiful movie in my imagination. (Then the actual movie came out, go figure). "The Women" is right here on my TBR pile. I am reading a lot of fantasy, and those are usually wonderful big books!

    ❤📚❤️ Lonesome Dove and The Women are both on my Goodreads list! I'm so glad you're enjoying them. I hope to get to them soon.
    I'm reading Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens on page 194 of 928. It's been really good so far.

    Hi Sue, both your books sound interesting. Looking forward to hear your final thoughts on them. I am currently reading Homecoming by Kate Morton for big book summer and I am listening to Girls like us on your recommendation. Enjoying both of them.

    *Loving* Lonesome Dove so much! Who knew?! 🤠 I'm also reading/listening to a war-related book, D-Day by Stephen E. Ambrose. It's 583 pages, so yay for that but it's a much slower read. 📚

      Glad you're enjoying it, too! Good timing for. D-Day book.
