  • There’s never a dull moment in Eurasia. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be skipping the Shanghai Cooperation Summit, soon to be held in Kazakhstan, the long overdue bilateral meeting between India and Russia seems likely in July. This salient expression of India’s multi-alignment comes at a time when heady geopolitical winds have been surging. As far as its old friend Russia is concerned, India must iron out genuine issues that have been haunting the two sides for a few years. says Swasti Rao, Associate Fellow, Europe and Eurasia Center, at the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses.

Getting 20-30 percent discount on oil isn’t good enough for you. Don’t behave like an opportunist. This will pass for Russia and then it might solely turn to China. Too much greed isn’t good.

India has to tread very carefully and tactfully. If it appears to be cozying too much to Russia, it will annoy the US & the west who may not help India with the defense upgrades and investments that India desperately needs BUT if it appears to be allied with the US & west, it will upset Russia who will move further in the Chinese camp, which can become a major headache for India in the future. Also, Trump's election in the US may change things for all.

Its good and befitting reply to west-specially USA- by going to Russia as his first proper official visit leaving an occasion of G-20-after forming gov. USA & west propaganda assets have crossed the limits while interfering in Indian elections this time- by even allowing their social media companies to propagate and promote anti gov, anti BJP propaganda only till elections.
Modi gov must investigate into this.

why will russia invest rupees in India! Russia needs money now. Russia must figure out ways to export goods out of India through the rupees. Indian automobile sector, manufacturing, Oil refining, Software exports, agricultual, textile, super markets etc must be opened up in Russia for Indians. Thats the only way to solve this problem.

If you are really a fan of her work, read her article, the link of which is mentioned in the video's caption.
Her analysis offers a nuanced take on India's geopolitical strategies, highlighting PM Modi's decision to skip the SCO summit and his consistent presence at the G7. The potential Modi-Putin summit reflects India's balancing act amid global tensions. Key issues include addressing trade deficits, smoothing rupee-ruble mechanisms, finalizing S-400 deliveries, and dealing with Pakistan's involvement in the INSTC. This multi-alignment approach underscores India's national interests in a rapidly changing global landscape. And Dr. Rao does a fab job of bringing this out.

India gains very little in the SCO group we already have bilateral and multilateral arrangement like BRICS and RIC where we can cooperate. Also it was China which changed the status quo on the border so it for China to go back.

    Now Ind should get-
    - Startegic high tech like su30 engines & ToT of An70(Rus jointly developed w/ UKR) for self-reliant in MTA/aircraft manufacturing. jointly develop brahmos2, s-600, etc.
    - Balanced trade, Ind should export more goods to Rus which are barred in EU.
    - Jointly own the INSTC and keep the outside infringing elements at the bay.

A rupee that noone in the world wants? Why doesnt anyone want rupees? Because you cant buy anything of value with it.

The same Russian weapons that helped you win 3 wars against Pakistan and one war against China. US tanks cost 4 times more yet can move around freely in Ukraine due to “technical issues”
Look at how the Ukrainian soldiers complain about American equipment. They went back to using their own tanks.

The Russia-Ukraine war is taking its toll on all parties ..direct and indirect ..and though both want to stop this war without losing face but do not know how. India understands this dilemma and wants to ensure Russia does not become overdependent or even subservient to China as war only drains resources very fast.
Hence it makes sense for India to ensure trade goes up so that Russia does not go belly up !!👍
