Noah is actually a Taylor Swift fan. He’s complimented her song writing and credited her for inspiring him as a song writer. He was stoked to be at the eras tour.

Just to offer a slightly happier interpretion: I always thought it was about a friend or sibling who is getting out of a small town while the rest of the family stays, with all the language about packing up, that’s why he’s saying they have to go far at the end in order to “go far” in life. So excited for more Noah reactions!
That's what I heard too. Like letting a child go off into the world. Even though it's painful to say goodbye to them, they wish them well and good success.
I can't remember where I heard it but I heard it was about Noah leaving his town even though most people stay there forever, and this is their message to him to support him in following his dreams, that everything will still be the same its always been, he's welcome back anytime. A lot of the album is about him not loving his home town even though everyone else seems to never want to leave!

I always imagined he’s talking to his sibling. They moved away to pursue greater things they couldn’t in their small town. In the beginning he says he prays for a red light, probably because the destination will be maybe the airport? He misses him/her but is also kinda proud for them doing that.
As the oldest daughter who left behind my younger brother and kid sister and our small, conservative town, this song hits me in the C spot really really hard. I think about it from my siblings pov 😭

this song always makes me cry because I've been living in South Korea the past few years teaching English and my friends call me their "you're gonna go far" friend because of this song. It's so hard living so far away from everyone and I've missed so many important milestones and events in my friends and family's lives, but they never are mad about it and always tell me how much they are proud of me for going so far and living my dream life. "we're not angry at you love, we'll be waiting for you love" always hits a little extra hard for me 😭
Hey sorry this might be a bit random but I’m considering travelling to South Korea and was thinking about teaching English there, just wanted to ask what your experience has been like in South Korea as a foreigner teaching English?x
@@stephk1130 Personally, I absolutely love living in Korea and I love teaching! There are so many things here that I prefer over the US where I'm from. However, the work culture is really harsh and it's pretty tough being a foreigner especially if you live somewhere outside like Seoul and Busan (for context, I spent two years in Gwangju and nobody spoke English there and there were basically NO foreigners lol). My biggest tip is just research research research! Especially if you want to teach at a hagwon (private academy). There are some good ones out there but there are so many more horrible ones! But I think as long as you go into it well-informed and not completely romancing life in Korea (because as much as I love it here there are also so many aspects that suck so bad) everything will be good! :)

I went to his concert back in April and it was genuinely one of the best shows I’ve ever seen
i found this song when i was going through my final year of college and it felt so in line with the emotions of not only leaving my college town and the friends i’d made but also the beauty in moving on and forward in life keeping those you love close to you - always makes me cry
Love you guys, thanks for adding another Noah Kahan song to the list, I for one appreciate that. 💜I think it's a flawless album as a whole. This song for me, (and taking into consideration that the album concept is all about having a complicated love/hate relationship with your small home town), I take as being about someone in his life who 'got out' while everyone else stays behind. Maybe it's for sister moving off to college, or a friend getting a bigger opportunity in life. Like, 'okay, well still be here for you, we'll be exactly the same if you want to come back, we love you' but with a bit of bitterness about it too because he's clearly shut this person down while drunk before and said: "it won't be by your own volition if you step foot outside this town". But finishes up with that acceptance of: "if you wanna go far, then you gotta go far".
Anyway, that's just my personal take. The beauty of music is that it can be whatever you want or need it to be.
His delicate singing comes from his masterful vocal control. He's so good at making you 'feel' the song
i definitely feel like this song could go either way. whether it’s about someone leaving town or what you guys were saying. just like any great art, it’s up for interpretation! there’s a lot more context in the full album, but i’m glad you guys were able to pull meaning on its own 🥹

LOVE this. Subscribed for Taylor Swift but Noah Kahan is just as awesome. I love how they’re able to tell a story so beautifully and make you feel it so deeply, even if you don’t personally relate to it, is just so awesome. Always leaves me at a loss for words.
This song will always make me bawl. The first time I heard it was after I moved (again) and I was terrified my family would be upset with me for not choosing to come home again. Out of the blue my sister sent me a text with a link saying it always reminds her of me. Can definitely see the perspective of someone who passed away though, that makes it even more heartbreaking.
i procrastinated watching this video for so long; but omg glue myself shut mentioned!!! easily one of his best and most underrated songs, right up there with bad luck

It could be since the person he’s talking about in Orange Juice is finally back but I always thought that this song is like from a parent point of view or a group of friends/people from Noah’s hometown you know? Like they’re talking about him leaving to reach his dream of becoming a musician.
