How an MP 40 works

- The MP 40 (Maschinenpistole 40) was a submachine gun chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge. It was developed in Nazi Germany and used extensively by the Axis powers during the Second World War.
Designed in 1938 by Heinrich Vollmer with inspiration from its predecessor the MP 38, it was heavily used by infantrymen (particularly platoon and squad leaders), and by paratroopers, on the Eastern and Western Fronts. Its advanced and modern features made it a favorite among soldiers and popular in countries from various parts of the world after the war. It was often erroneously called "Schmeisser" by the Allies, despite Hugo Schmeisser's non-involvement in the weapon's design and production. From 1940 to 1945, an estimated 1.1 million were produced by Erma Werke.

The MP40 is perhaps one of my favorite SMG's that i would use.
Of course you would say that germany haha
Me too!!!!!
Cheap to manufacture, relatively simple & therefor reliable easy to maintain (in the field) most users felt comfortable with it. Therefor one of the best 'all rounders' surely, which can still hold it's own against many moderns !
literally every other smgs worked the same way in ww2 (ppsh-41, pps-43, sten, thompson, "grease gun", beretta m38 etc)
@@melted8368 nd
This was most definitely not cheap or simple. A Sten/PPS-43 bolt has one part, a single machined piece of bar stock. This has like 5 parts.
It’s simple more than I thought
At 2:44 LOL!!!!!This sound is only in imagination of movie makers!
The MP 40 works
is very simple and easy
Nagyon isteni bemutató, még mindig fasza fegyver a Schmeisser géppisztoly !!!!!!!!💓💓👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
It's kind of hard for me to tell from the animation, but it looks like the shell stop is also the ejector. If so, props to the designer for that type of simplification.
Like the sten smg
@@Chris-fj9ir the Sten used the shell stop as the ejector?
Fixed ejecter.. slam fires like a piston.. fixed firing pin... trigger releases the 5 pound bolt.. strips a.round.. slam fires.. on the return a 90degree hook strips and deflects .. on the sten anyway... very simple
So Simple But Effective. Cant wait for mills to go down in Price
I wonder how it fires in semi auto mode. The bolt would be moving too fast back for the sear to catch it for single shot.
The low rate of fire of 500-550 rounds per minute allows firing in single mode with a short and quick pull of the trigger.
Awesome.. cool graphics... my favourite and I made one in school at woodwork 👍
Me: how a MP 40 works
UA-cam: just pull the trigger
great submachine gun, our ancectors used it during the algerian revolution and it was very useful

I always though that the way you hold the magazine was really shitty though
....and after you were victorious, you violeted all women/girls and children as it is common by Muslims?
I find it interesting that the bolt is so long and the magazine so far in the front
Colonizer-Chan well, i guess the germans needed a quick deaign that could be massproduced, wvery small addon that needed to be build in coulsv reduced production. Also carryable machine pistols were relativly new
The bolt is attached to a three piece telescopic recoil spring assembly that made the gun a bit longer than most linear designed mp's like the Sten or Carl Gustav for instance, but also worked as a shock absorber as some air pressure developed during recoil. Interestingly the bolt doesn't travel so far back as to hit the rear of the tube making this a very soft recoiling, controllable and relatively accurate gun. Reportedly, an experienced operator could hit man sized targets out to 250 meters with an MP40.
chapiit08 they just didnt have that much quantity of it :I
It's an open bolt gun, that's the way i explained it to myself(why the mag is up front).
DarkLightGamer
Open bolt weapons can be much shorter like an Israeli Uzi or an italian Beretta PM12S, modern open bolts have what's called a telescoping bolt, meaning that excess mass meant to make the fire rate controllable as intended by design is shaped to warp around the barrel rather than being all behind the chamber.
WWII and 50' SMGs just are very simple and not explored to their potential, Hugo Schmeisser just made his MP-38/40 so long for that in built buffer system of the bolt.
I wonder how often the spring was changed...
Wonderful animation.
flipper184 it’s actually a games called “world of guns disassembly”
Thanks
flipper184
Wow, thanks for the video, now I know how it works
Who put a telescope inside my gun? Galileo!
"Eppur si muove!"
**Laugh track**
Always thought it was closed bolt design
Please make a video on how Kriss vector works next time
One of best ww2 smg
Second best, even though i like the mp40 a lot the soviet ppsh 41, shoots ways faster and also has both stick and drum magazine
The longest moving part in a gun
I dont really understand how works the firing pin. It works on inertia? I gess that is the bolt that is pushed by the recoil spring and the firing pin group is pulled bi it....that IF is an inertial one.
Can somebody explain how it works? i dont think fixed firing pins are safe enought.
Very simpull fitting i like it☠🤟
Efficient,cost effective,easy to use
People Since you know the knowledge of how guns work can somebody make a homemade mp 40 smg with stuff from a hardware store look up the luty gun!
I can hear mississipi queen in my head.
do you have the UZI .. and tks .. great animation .. cheers
It's for short distance
Fantastic
I dont understand how the slide goes back...
Gas
It is blowback operated
Looks so simple I think I could make one from a grease gun and some pipe and a few things in my junk box🤡
Yo I heard u running the circus and um here to shut it down
Best xray in mortal kombat
Ye i love mp40 this is my fav gun on free fire
Para cuando un subfusil eléctrico?
Very good congratulations. Muito bom parabéns.
Why mp40 is slower than thompson ?
If zombie appocolyse happens this will the easist thing to make
Very nice
Excelente arma, senti até o cheiro da segunda guerra mundial.

Why do so many Ww2 era guns have the 9MM parabellum?
Tanktastic08 it was actually designed by the Germans, back then it was called 9mm Luger
It still has the same specification and measurements of the Parabellum, but I'm not sure about the grains and stopping power.
Basically, they kept the 9x19 and changed the name
Thanks
Because it was effective and simple, low cost submachine guns could be made to fire it. To this day the 9mm is the most widely fielded caliber particularly in sidearms but also some subguns like the H&K MP5 are still in use by military forces around the world in limited numbers. The subgun lost ground as a mass fielded weapon when armies started to issue body armor to their personnel and rifles chambered for intermediate calibers like the 7.62x39 and the 5.56x45 became widespread.
chapiit08 Exactly.
Some new design like the new cartridge of the MP7 and the 5,7x28mm for both P90 and Five-seveN might re-enlight the SMGs in modern combat, having both a powerful stopping power that surpasses the Parabellum
LOS LOS LOS! GEHT IN DECKUNG!!!
Now upscale it 7.68mm
it is better than the bristish sten and american thompson
gaurav pawar
Don't even mention that piece of junk of the Sten Gun.
But the US Thompson, although high quality and very reliable, was freaking heavy (about 4 kilos, more than a modern assault rifle), and had an overkill fire rate (800RPM) which coupled with a very potent round (.45ACP/Auto) made it completely uncontrollable for someone not very experienced with it.
On the other side, the MP-40 required minimal effort to shoot it accurately and had enough stopping power to do what it was meant to do, while also being lighter.
@@CaptainGrief66 which would you say is worse, the sten or m3 grease gun, both have shitty firerates
Ai ban khau nay ko?
The best machine gun
Simple mechanism
Please Next gun Thompson
the MP40 never had a silencer...
This is my favourite SMG Carabine xD
Nope.... Im not a Nazi...
Liking a Mosin Nagant doesn't make you a communist.
Good MP, but when Hitler's dumb strategics failed (splitted an army in two and let the weaker push Stalingrad LOL) and the Germans were forced to do a Guerillia fight in Stalingrad the PPsH-41 outplayed this great SMG :/
yes but they makes the ..MP43/MP44/MP45 sturmgeither
MP44 was powerfull, 7.92 X33 or 7.92 kurtz, lighter than PPSH41. its the ancestor of AK47 familiy and ..AR10 that will become M16 and AR15 family!
well I know, but we talk about Stalingrad.
just i say ..russian have PPS41/43 and German STG OR MP44 that is far superior.
and after that its become , they takes exemple on the MP44 to makes the AR family and the AK..
Flexogreen Ecoenergie why does everyone keep saying the mp44 was the ancestor of the ak?
Nice name's channel
This gun is in call of duty
Good German weapon
Why the model seems comed out or fallout new Vegas?
Fiz uma de pvc ..top top assim.like
Live by the sword die by the sword. reason i didnt mind my privlage haulted and tooken away
Not that well done. The vid does not go into the exploded sections of the bolt, operating controls, trigger etc. No labeling of parts, just repetitive firing.
David Schmidt exploded sections of the bolt? It's not like it's very complicated to figure out.
You can figure out operating controls just by looking at the thing.
Parts don't need to be labeled if you know anything about firearms
Hk 416 please
This is fake ,the pin don't touch in the bullet on the correct way

Goeggi G Its not rifle, Its submachine gun you dumbass
Generally the French were just bad at warfare.
Don't blame the gun, blame the man.
Also when was this Algerian event, maybe the MP 40 was already outdated by then.
he is right. in algeria, suppletive , are using olds guns from WWI and taken from german army in france.
