@strengthside thanks for lending a fresh perspective to this topic. I tend to thrive on challenges and I like to test myself periodically...currently I'm on a 52-day challenge of a very strict food and water consumption/July 5-Aug 24. No alcohol; no reward meals. My diet comprises almost the same 2-3 meals every day it's like Groundhog Day and I have only about 10 foods total to choose from at any given time...tuna, chicken, 1 scoop Garden of Life Raw Organic Meal (for my vegetables), almonds, oatmeal, Muesli, eggs, rice, black beans, lentils, and berries (black, blue, and straw) and for drinking it's tap water and coffee with creamer... I always train hard and I make stretching a priority so this strict diet and intense exercise has gotten me pretty lean lately.. I'd have to say that refraining from alcohol has made a huge difference for me.
"over the course of a lifetime" - most important message in this great video! Also the chaotic life that inhibits us - long hours, commuting, office job, but where there's a will there's a way - feeling good and making good choices is key. Thankfully I really enjoy vigorous physical activity - I find it to be de-stressing and exhilarating and feel like a king afterwards. Thanks for these vids with these simple, practical messages and lessons.
My foundational principle is never skip two times a in a row. If you skip eating good food, or skip going to the gym or doing a work out, do not skip a second time in a row. Even if it is for 15 minutes go do something active or make sure you eat the salad the second time around. This has allowed me to cap things off plan to one off occurrences instead of week long events.
Why? At nearly 50 yrs. old, I sit in my car at the supermarket parking lot and watch people of all ages but mostly 70+ struggling, limping, hobbling, leaning on carts or canes/walkers just about permanently crippled.... I'M NOT GOING OUT LIKE THAT!
I’ve always thought the same thing. For these people you described it’s all self inflicted for the most part. Unfortunately people don’t care until it becomes a problem.
I’m 6’4 and 45 years old, a father of 6 and a former college basketball player ages ago and finally am starting to experience the freedom of movement thanks to your principles plus the stuff from Ben Patrick from KOT. I haven’t felt this good in decades! I dropped 30 lbs since last summer and love being back at my college playing weight of 220 lbs. keep the great content coming, it’s making a real difference!!
I had little sustained desirable results with diet or exercise until I accepted and loved myself exactly the way I was at any given moment. Acceptance didn't mean resignation. Making small, incremental changes served me well. Making healthy eating my norm was essential. Treats and exceptions became totally unsatisfying unless they were things like fruit, nuts and dark chocolate. I walk between 5 and 15 miles/day--sometimes farther! I LOVE walking. My real reason the helped with my success was simple. I wanted to continue to be able to move as I aged. Still plenty of work to do with regard to mobility and strength. I need to figure out how to make that fun. I know you guys will help me. I love the channel and the work you're doing. Thank you so much.
I finally feel like I'm on the right side of this (for me). I struggled with diets and gym member ships and other exercise plans for decades and never stuck to anything. But now I need strength endurance and flexibility to survive and thrive in Jujitsu. Its motivated many changes in diet and habit and the arc is continuing in the right direction even in the face of adversity. As the weight has come off and the strength increased I can see direct results and progress in something that is one of the most difficult thing Ive ever done. Its also lead to other positive changes in life mental health and job performance. Move your body! It wants it so bad!
Josh and Trevor - this video has to be one of the best, full of common sense about diet, exercise, lifestyle and goals for creating and maintaining a healthy and fit life that becomes a natural way of living. Your advice about creating a diet that you'll love to eat and stick with is just so simple, it's stupid! Lol! I have tried to emulate every diet out there - eating foods I do not like thinking this is the way I'll lose weight and get healthy. No stupid, eat the foods you love - make them healthy - and you'll stick with it. And setting small goals will lead to big results. We all want results today - but we forget to enjoy the journey and give ourselves credit for the daily efforts we put into achieving those goals. Honestly, this video is so inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing. And I'm a senior - 67 years young - and still learning. I guess you can teach an old dog (or in this case, Cat!) new tricks! 💖😻
Great video. The looking for a great “why” has been a principal key in my journey to wellness. I always come back to that foundation stone. Your videos are awesome.
You guys are great! Just to say that, inscribed on the first column in Delphi it says “Know thyself”. A simple but very wise piece of advice ay? ‘cause when you know your body/mind things get really intuitive and easier. Difficult to hold on to, in our modern & ever increasingly robotic and less human world. Strength on all sides bros! 💜🕊✌️
You guys make it look so easy and fun. I wish you were around 20 years ago, when I still had some natural energy in my body. But I'll try to do some movements while taking it easy at the same time, even now at the age of 53 with a half-broken body I'm quite ashamed of.
Jst wanted to say thanks for the content man. I love how your message is about health and longevity. I have been enjoying my gym sessions a lot more and have a far more positive mindset now that i feel i am out of that body-building kind of mindset. Of course we all want to look good bt is good to feel good too! Love from Australia 🇦🇺
I love your holistic approach! For me, the goal is to become embodied spirit. Said another way, to have a dancers body. Because my "why" is a body goal rooted in how I feel and my spirit's freedom, I'm more likely to invest in it, because we are not our body-mind; we all get old, but while we're here, it's best to take care of and enjoy our bodies in relation to our lives with values beyond our physique. As a mother who carried and birthed a baby, I understand the function of the body is more than aesthetics. Females experience more fluctuation and fluidity in their bodies, and the control approach really goes against our natural energy when it's functioning at its highest best. Flow is the way to go. Its not about the beautiful armor you carry as muscles but how you move in your body that makes you truly beautiful, in my opinion. The body can't lie. Your soul moves with it or it doesn't.
Great video. For people looking to shed some excess weight, walking is a great way to do that and almost everyone can do it and no equipment is necessary.
Another great content video. This is sound advice coupled with the physiology and psychology of motivation, change and movement. It is really all in our intentions and desire to improve and create a "quality of being in this moment."
I love how this guidance resonates deeply with me. I am exactly the one that is always guilty while indulging and puts me in a train of negative thoughts, eventually not stopping there and giving into series of mistakes. I realize "your diet is never going to be perfect". Thanks a lot!! I am implementing your tips to get better!
1 is such a great advice. I always struggled with going to the gym consistently, staying in shape...would do it for a few months and then shift back to being fat couch potato. That changed when I started caving. To be able to go to more technical and deep caves you have to be in great shape, you're also constantly in nature, many caves require hours of climbing and hiking so you're constantly outside, in nature. Many cavers are member of national rescue service (ours is one of the best in the world), extremely fit and vital people regardless of sex and age, and it's so amazing to be surrounded by people that are 50-60-70 and in better shape than your average 30yearold. It got me so motivated to be fit and healthy so I to can be like that, and part of it. And whenever I feel like I don't want to go for a swim or a run because it's cold or I'm tired, I just remember what I'll be gaining (or loosing) and immediately I'm motivated. Also, your focus shifts - I stoped caring whether my boobs will get smaller or legs and arms bulkier, instead I take pride and get satisfaction from what my body is now able to do - big calves - I'm able to climb better and walk linger, big arms - I'm able to swim and also climb better, my lung capacity improved - I'm able ti dive deeper and have more stamina...and healthy body craves healthy foods, so no more sugar cravings, no more chips, if I really want something sweet in 11pm, I'll chew a raw carrot.
Very wise advice here on improving health. Vuori makes some great clothing that looks sharp and feels good. Take advantage of this sale the quality is really there. I personally own 4 pairs of shorts.
You said it exactly correct!! This is the best video you have put out and you have created some of the best and you have inspired me more then I can explain!
2:22 I'm so glad you touched on that. For myself eating fruit and vegetables just isn't possible. Especially because the taste and texture both make me gag and in the cases i have gotten it down somehow i feel sick to my stomach for the next few days. Feeling like you're constantly on the edge of vomiting is no way to live and forcing yourself to eat something that makes you sick for the sake of "being healthy" is more harmful to yourself.
Engineer here, discover climbing last year while overweighed (26% fat atm), not capable of doing even one push-up, trying hard to have a better lifestyle, health, strength and flexibility. Jimmy is a great example to follow, thanks a lot, congratulation to him.
I really love this video....very simple and practical hacks...wise words on marble. I love "get your body to do something it hasnt done before instead of focusing on how you look " Thanks.....subscribing to your channel now
Great video guys!!!!!!!! Eating a wide variety of foods has always worked well. My motivation is to be able to move freely as I age. I have to tell you this one game I like to play. It's called pick a workout. Choose an area of the body to work on and pick any random youtube video. It's a fun game to play with friends.
To keep your fitness level up do find what you love. For me it’s mountains. Hiking climbing cross country skiing mtb. It never feels like exercise, it’s pure fun for me
I want to be surfing at 85 or older. You have to do what you love and what is sustainable for a lifetime. You guys are doing great and I appreciate your videos.
Surviving life should be reason enough. 55 months after a destroyed upper and lower body. Shattered hip shattered pelvis broke 10 ribs broken right shoulder and permanently bruised femer plus many other minor injuries. At 57 I am defying the odds. No one's coming to wipe your ass gotta do it on your own.
yes i totally agree that there is no one size fits all when it comes to diet. i need a lot less carb than my husband, except at the end of my cycle when women need more complex carbs.. it's taken a while to figure it out but i'm currently in the best shape of my life probably.
I like the idea of make your body functional and strong in the activity that you enjoy. If you enjoy runnig, then set a goal that can make you improve in that area. I would like to be stronger in my bench press, squat and deadlift, so i'll try to set a goal that can make a relationship between my bodyweight and the weigth that i would like to move. Thank you for your content! It´s very useful.
Can you make a video showing how you did that jumprope technique going around your body without jumping and just standing there?! That sh** blew my mind 😮
Good info, thanks. I'm trying to lose weight for just general health reasons. After trying to do this with out much success for a while, I realized one very key aspect of this for me is having to retrain my brain about what feeling hungry and full feels like. I drifted into the thinking feeling full was how I felt when I eat a huge burrito with chips and guacamole and then just wanted to unbutton my pants and sit on the couch. That's stuffed not full. I realized when I sat down to a meal, I did it because the clock said its time for that meal, not because I'm hungry and that's helped me drop some lbs. Hard to change those eating habits but becoming aware of being hungry or too full has really helped me regulate better.
LOVE LOVE this video!! Very honest and Very realistic. ALSO, how did i NOT realize they're 2 of you :) until you said WE. I always thought your editing skills were on point and you were just doing doubles 🤭
I tend to get skinnier than I want to be if I don't keep up regular resistance training and trying to eat more. I've always been between lean and skinny. I'd really love to be able to do all the animal flow moves like you do without my knees n wrists hurting a lot. I can do 14 pull-ups in a set, just.
The best video I've ever had the privilege to watch. I've been struggling with my weight for years with it fluctuating between 250-270...when I used to ve 165. This video really hit it home for me, and I'm excited to get up tomorrow morning and start developing a better way of viewing my fitness/health goals. I'm so happy your channel came across my feed, best sub I've ever done.
Great video🎉 I struggle with all of these things😅 Main problem is i have a herniated disc, and it's unpredictable, so i must be careful when training. And once it pops, I'm practically lame and in pain for weeks.. and then the motivation and diet go down the drain, and the weight goes up. Hate it. And the work commuting. I think society is rigged against people being healthy. The fight goes on ✊
that was me until I got a job I could ride my bike to. I got rid of my car and rode my bike everywhere which was gentle on my disc - the riding caused me to lose enough weight that there was less pressure on the disc and I was able to get stronger all over including my core of course and the disc finally healed itself
I've got 3 herniated discs and a torn labrum with repeated dislocations in my shoulder. Endless cycle of back and shoulder injuries until I began leaning into the stuff that made me uncomfortable. Deadlifts for back and a healthy diet of direct ab work, plus work on my posture and tucking my hips. Behind the neck press, dead hang pullups, handstand work - all the stuff that scared the crap out of me fixed my shoulder. Can't say nothing will ever happen again but I feel great at the moment. Face your fears. I don't watch everything that these guys do, but they were the first people I had seen address the fear associated with repeated injuries. You have to go through it.
Hey man love your vids, super informative and your training content is just amazing. So I have this issue where I cant seem to create the right workout schedule for my calisthenics workouts for the week. Do you recommend a certain push - pull one day on one day rest schedule etc.? Im all over the place... Thanks dude!
Don't worry about creating a schedule just do movements throughout the day. Some of my mornings go like this. Wake up get dressed do 20 to 30 squats. Make coffee do pushups in the kitchen while waiting. Brush teeth while doing some balance work. The day just continues in that way. This is just an example. I listen to my body as to what it needs to work on. Then eventually you might be able to make up a schedule if you like. These two guys are what made me what to work out again after many years of not training.
Hi guys, thanks for the content you've been providing! I would just like to ask you if you could recommend any female channels along the lines of yours. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I think the “why” is still the better motivating factor. For example, when we experience a break up, we tend to do everything right. Diet, workouts, good habits etc. because all we want is to let that pain go away. We need a motivation factor that emulates that “pain”, that when we dont want tô train, we think about that pain and just go
I want to be disciplined. I want to be disciplined so I can be successful at anything in life. I want to be successful financially, spiritually, romantically. Physical, etc. it has helped me improve myself quite a lot over the past month. I’ve never stuck with working out, and exercising, dieting this much. Cold showers, starting ice baths and fasting. Feels good. It’s sucks but I feel like a success every day. I’m scared to skip a day, I may want to skip more so I don’t risk it. No cheat Meals, no skipping etc.
Well, after 2 years, I've discovered that I actually don't like fitness... However I love mobility, yoga and running :) (I've been injured for 3 years so I can't run anymore and I don't know how to heal but I'll follow my instincts, thankss ^^)
Whar are your thoughts on oatmeat, Im going to be 65 in a couple of weeks, I have it 3 times a week with fresh berries, but I hear good and bad things about it.
Do you have some other principals for staying in shape over a course of a lifetime? What keeps you motivated or what have you found works best for you?

How about fasting? Is it keeping you lean ?
Fasting definitely! It changes the way you see food and connects yourself with your body. Thanks for the awesome video🙏🏼
You guys have perfect bodies so whatever you wear looks great!
My foundational principle is never skip two times a in a row. If you skip eating good food, or skip going to the gym or doing a work out, do not skip a second time in a row. Even if it is for 15 minutes go do something active or make sure you eat the salad the second time around. I’ve always thought the same thing. For these people you described it’s all self inflicted for the most part. Unfortunately people don’t care until it becomes a problem.
P R E A C H‼
Me either!
Amen! I’m with you. Almost 50 here too.
My goal
I’m 6’4 and 45 years old, a father of 6 and a former college basketball player ages ago and finally am starting to experience the freedom of movement thanks to your principles plus the stuff from Ben Patrick from KOT. I haven’t felt this good in decades! I dropped 30 lbs since last summer and love being back at my college playing weight of 220 lbs. keep the great content coming, it’s making a real difference!!
I wasn’t expecting this to be as thoughtful and motivating as it was. Thank you!
This is great information!!! I changed my lifestyle 3 years ago. I'm still working on strength, but I lost 81 lbs!!!! Thank you for you!!!!!
Wise words! As a menopausal woman it's appreciated to remind myself to connect with how I feel and adjust goals accordingly to up and down hormones 😅
Awesome attitude. Loving myself and being content is something I'm aspiring to, but not there yet.
I absolutely love y'alls no BS approach to health and fitness. Natural and logical is always best.
I finally feel like I'm on the right side of this (for me). I struggled with diets and gym member ships and other exercise plans for decades and never stuck to anything. Move your body! It wants it so bad!
This is probably my favourite video o your channel. You present the points very clearly, rationally and simply.
Wow that deadlift and squat was good, please show us a full week gym weight-lifting workout routine, thanks in advance!
Absolutely top notch advice and very practical. Thank you.
I am a 62 year old male. Thank you, you inspired me :) I still have about 10000 good days to go !!!
🤣💯

Great video. The looking for a great “why” has been a principal key in my journey to wellness. I always come back to that foundation stone. Your videos are awesome.
Consistency is the 🔑! Loved the video , everything was simple and easily understood.
you guys are da best of them all. hands down feet up and i'm so grateful for the support to help me stay on track for the mountain play that i love :)

Amen!
We want to look good, AND, feeling good is more important. Which consequently has us look good (yes, I'm generalising wink).
Good thoughts. Appreciate it. So easy to get caught up in the plan to be your best, but never “do” for your best health.

Really great words of wisdom on this one. This type of advice is what has helped me maintain my 70 lbs weight loss.

Great message here guys. It really is a lot easier than social media makes it out to be💪🏾
Bro Thanks for the message.... and the motivation on how to do it, but best why to do it ..... greetings from Costa Rica
Off topic but do you guys recommend stretching before or after workout? Or both? I appreciate all of your videos and look forward to more!
Stretching before workout just changes your plane of attention because muscles get elongated a bit...
I love you guys 💪🏾, thanks for dropping these nuggets of insight.

Excellent information, much appreciated. Say, what is the name of the mountain lake seen around 2:54? California lake??
Great advice. Thank you!
Hi Trevor, please explain what you meant in 06:53-07:12 - sounds like great advice!
What a great video! thanks
Right on!
Great video!!! I agree 100 percent
Great advice! 😊
LOVE LOVE this video!! Very honest and Very realistic. ALSO, how did i NOT realize they're 2 of you :) until you said WE. I always thought your editing skills were on point and you were just doing doubles 🤭
great video!!
What is that meal at 04:10 ? Fried banana slices and... what? Looks good and I want to try it :D
Plantains, a kind of banana. And looks like beef mince with onions.
You guys are the best❤❤❤
I tend to get skinnier than I want to be if I don't keep up regular resistance training and trying to eat more. I've always been between lean and skinny. I'd really love to be able to do all the animal flow moves like you do without my knees n wrists hurting a lot. I can do 14 pull-ups in a set, just.
Love your channel ❤️
Thank you for sharing your wisdom on movement. Where can I get a Human Animal tee? I love your videos.
Suffering and misery will bring greatness
Unfortunately not all see it this way. But it's true nonetheless.
Thank you for a wealth of information
The best video I've ever had the privilege to watch. I've been struggling with my weight for years with it fluctuating between 250-270...when I used to ve 165.
This video really hit it home for me, and I'm excited to get up tomorrow morning and start developing a better way of viewing my fitness/health goals.
I'm so happy your channel came across my feed, best sub I've ever done.
Best advice ever!
I love your instant negation of the clickbait title!
@@Motherkuen Great advise man appreciate it! 👍
Thank you!
Moderation in all.
Like you website , I have been looking for something driffrent .
No cheat
Meals, no skipping etc.
Great video
Well, after 2 years, I've discovered that I actually don't like fitness... However I love mobility, yoga and running :) (I've been injured for 3 years so I can't run anymore and I don't know how to heal but I'll follow my instincts, thankss ^^)
Hard truths that yield results!
Wise advice.
