I don't know much about IT but wouldn't it make sense to roll out updates to test pc's? Also, why is there no redundancy as a backup in case of a solar flare, hacking or F-up? Relying only on cloud computing to save money is stupid

That's supposed to be ITGEEK 101.. stage, test, roll out in phases, backup, and keep replacement assets in cold storage, swap out and boot up. As we see so many places, this about cutting corners, incompetence, poor management, and bad hires.
