    I'm a kiwi living in Sydney been here 5 years and own my own home. To be honest I think NZ is a better country. The people are generally nicer the weathers not extreme it's just an easier place to live. Australia is a richer country in monetary terms but that's where it ends. I don't think the standard of living is higher in Australia. I could do more in my day back in NZ and it was easier. I came here for a job but NZ will always be home. I'll eventually return for good.

      Brendan Shields same here bro. Australians are stressful people the government here is hard to deal with and nothing is built to be efficient or reasonable. The word reasonable doesn't exist in the Australian English dictionary.

      Im an expat too but I moved here when i was 14 years old with fam back in the late 90s. Australia was a great place to live up till the mid 2000s . Since then cities like Sydney has gone to shit from the peoples attitudes, too many asian migrants to the cost of living and poor road infrastructure for cars. Its can be a really stressful place to live. Money is good in Oz but it wont buy you happiness in the long term.

      obviously, you have been away a long time, it is always a worry when you get New Zealanders calling themselves Kiwi, it's a very derogative term, for those who have a bush hen mentality and are blind to reality, New Zealand is a third world country but the small syndrome Kiwi will never want to know that unlikt the NewZealanders who are honest

    • @mybumbrash
      @mybumbrash 6 років тому +21

      Robert Stewart kiwi is not a derogative term it was developed after ww1 and ww2 because our soldiers had a kiwi logo on them to distinguish them from other British imperial forces. Secondly nz is a developed nation as it is in the OECD. The following are better in nz than Australia, health care, secondary education, university, ease of business index, GDP growth per capita, traffic, happened index, pollution, lower corruption, more efficient government, more respectful police, less maricaniSed, internet speeds, cellphones costs, tourism, explorability. The only thing Australia has over nz, is that hard work and applying yourself could earn you a bit of money, nothing excessive but you can spend it on a new computer good clothes etc. But I would take happiness, good governance, less Americanisation, better health and education, over an extra $10,000 a year.

    • @brendanshield
      @brendanshield 6 років тому +15

      Couldn't have said it better myself! So true. As for Mr Stewarts comment "third world country" what a joke. Have you ever been to a third world country? NZ is no where near a thrid world counrty. We recently just sent a rocket to space with plans to launch weekly, we are the 11th country to ever acheive this lofty feet. Obviously this is a completely uniformed opinion by a ignoramus!

    I am soooo homesick after watching this. I was born and raised in Auckland and have walked all these streets many years ago with my Dad when he used to take me to the pictures every Saturday. Imwonder if the old Civic picture theatre is still standing. Bad move to Ausy in 1978.

    My wife and I (along with our two teens) stayed in Auckland 6 days before heading to Wellington by train. Being from Hawai`i we found Auckland to be a very diverse city and very clean in comparison to back home. Great options for dining..lots of activities..we enjoyed walking the streets and also relaxing and having a few cold ones. My teens enjoyed the art museums..some shopping..typical tourist agenda. We will definitely be back.. Mahālo e Aotearoa 🤙🏾

    Auckland is a fantastic place, great people, great food catering to most tastes. Not too hot in summer, not too cold in winter. Theatre, art galleries, shopping, lots to do. This video shows only Queen St and the Central Business District. (CBD). There is so much more, beautiful beaches, parks, bush walks and Auckland is not called the City of Sails for nothing. Auckland is a vibrant and exciting city.....

      Quite true, I think the north shore and waitakere ranges are the best areas - frankly I think the CBD is dirty, smelly and boring currently - hopefully that will change when the city rail link and new bus depots/new mall is complete because currently I think New Lynn is a way nicer place than the CBD. Putty I’ll be living in Dunedin by the time it is all finished though

      Mikey is right. Whilst a lot of people are kind to all people, there's a lot of Kiwis who are quite the racist type.
      Even a lot of the Maori who call out the Pakeha/Europeans are fairly unkind to other nationalities like the Chinese and the Japanese.

    I grew up in South Auckland and back in the late 70's my parents would take us to the movies at the Civic theatre then up to the Farmers building when it still had the upstairs playground. It was the most exciting day out and was a magical place for a kid but unfortunately this has all gone now. I still love my country though.

    Post covid this has changed a lot. Lots of shops and businesses shut down and many vacant shops. The work from home has meant a lot less people in the cbd too. Which I think will be good in the long run. Shops will open up around our homes instead and create an easier way of living - good to reduce transport costs and emissions too.

    • @Helterskelter4

      It's not at all. NZ prime-minister is a Freemason hypocrite and was bought and paid for by the Clintons; She's an ex Tony Blair adviser (incidentally wanted still for war crimes) She donated 13mil to the Clinton foundation last year (incidentally their body count is well over 400 now). NZ is a very poor country wages wise, high suicide rates, highest domestic violence rates, very expensive to live, houses are un-affordable and poorly built and cold and damp, very high drug usage per capita, I could go on forever. I'm glad I left that dump of a place seriously. It's not at all what you read about or see in photos. It is a terrible and insular backwater isolated island nation with no relevance to the rest of the world.

    • @Helterskelter4
      @Helterskelter4 5 років тому +3

      @@batboy3746 Seriously you'd be better staying in the US. I really mean that. I left NZ because of how backwards, insular, close minded and small time it is, I left for my own sanity. Its extremely boring and insanely expensive and the people just are clueless with the rest of the world. I just couldn't stand it any longer and every day I dreamt of leaving. It was the worst decision of my life moving there. I really mean that in all honest sincerity.

    The number of "homeless", and vagabonds on the street really worry me. I have been accosted on a number of occasions, they're not asking for a dollar or spare change, they are asking for $10, or $20, and they become quite aggressive or abusive even. Auckland CBD, is not attractive by international standards, but the waterfront is great, and there are lots of other attractions.

So I'm as broke as the next person. . I went for my walk yesterday. Behold. He asked me the same thing without realising me.. it's sad because it pains the people who really need it.

      @@dominicm255 Far from it, I have travelled throughout the world, the majority of homeless gathering in the city are now quite aggressive. NZ and Auckland in particular has developed a really hard edge, some if not many homeless have drug and alcohol problems, and assaults are common. I didn't say that I find them scary, but the nature of the way that they harass and harangue people for money is worrying. My wife has been a victim of it.

    I've been here all my life. There are problems throughout all society no matter where you look or go to. NZ is a great place to bring up children as long as you put in effort to make use of whats out there. For example taking your kids to scouts program, rugby program, cricket program or netball program - after work. If you want it you can have it but you got to put in the effort. A great life isn't just going to come and sit in your lap - you have to earn it and I feel NZ gives back to you as long as you allow it to.
    If you are going to wallow in self-pity then do something about it. Be proactive not reactive. Here in NZ it is too small to have opportunities come to you - you've got to go get-it. That's why we have lean on our DIY culture, our go get-it culture and punching above our weight culture since we are small and isolated.
    The people that do well in NZ are the small business owners who work hard but also reap the rewards of their hard work. I find it motivating and invigorating seeing new kiwis with a nice bach or a nice ride. It can be done but just not so with a sad attitude. Kia kaha, stay strong, light, love and peace.

      I lived there for 11 years, did my secondary and uni there and then moved to Sydney 15 years ago and am about to move back to my home city, Kuala Lumpur. You don't live in NZ for its CBDs, they are small and generally boring. Auckland's main positives are that it's surrounded by natural beauty, the beaches are so accessible and it is a really safe place to live in. I have visited many cities in the world and you will struggle to find an area as nice as Tamaki Drive/Mission Bay. As I am getting older, I can now see myself returning there. I think after my stint in KL I may consider settling down in Auckland, unless KL totally blows my mind of course.

    It's true , Auckland is pretty nice lifestyle wise, but anybody who is not wealthy will struggle hard. The wages are low and the price of living very high. Auckland has also lost it's kiwi culture mostly through waves of mass imigration. Employers are for this however, as they don't have to keep wages up to fair standards due to the massive supply of imported labour.
