You forgot all the important stuff... like these are ONLY FRS radios - so have to abide by all the relevant restrictions on power (2 Watts) and frequency/channel locking, fixed antennas, no access to repeaters. They're not much more than toys.
    446.00625-446.19375MHz, 467.5625-467.7125MHz, 462.55-462.725MHz
FRS - generally won't reach 5 miles, even from mountaintop to mountaintop - they're not MEANT to!
Its a FAMILY radio service - between vehicles or hikers, so that people 5 miles away won't interfere with others' conversations.

Thanks for filling in the details-I’m clearly no radio expert! Just glad these help keep us from wandering too far. Appreciate the pro insights; pinning your comment for anyone wanting the full scoop!

In all the walkie Talkies there is not any true privacy codes. You can set a code, however anyone with a radio on the main channel can still hear you. When you and your family are talking a privacy code you will not be interrupted by someone else calling you. When someone stumbles on your privacy code they can interrupt your conversation. Remember, anyone on the same channel as you regardless of the privacy code, can hear everything you say. Be safe out there.
