As a local guy, I've been going to the Kompressor pub pretty much since it was opened. The food is delicious, but man oh man, the 'I-don't-really-care-if-you-live-or-die' attitude of the staff there is rude even in Estonian standards :).
I’m new to you journey and I have to say your guys are really the best. You share your anticipation and enjoyment so easily that it feels like I’m right there with you. I’ve started to make a habit of watching after a long day at work. It’s like taking a quick vacation. Thanks for bring us along for the journey.
We love Estonia! We visited Tallin 10 years ago. I teach history and discuss the importance of this flag, particularly during the fall of the Soviet Union.
aww! i moved to Estonia four months ago and I must say, you got the real Estonian experience with how cold they can be :D they need loads of time to become friendly. Also if someone is planning to use this video as an inspiration for their visit of Tallinn - the hipster part you were looking for was not Kalamaja, but Telliskivi, it's right next to it and it's worth visiting for sure - day and night! :)
Here's a fun fact: the former president of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves grew up in the states. He was once featured on an episode of the podcast Planet Money, I found it so crazy to be listening to the president of Estonia (at the time) speaking with a Jersey accent! Also Estonia was one of (if not the first) to introduce online voting!
I met a guy in Australia in McDonald's as he was sorting out his brand new DJI Mavic. We got to talking and I told him about our roadtrip with a campervan... he brought me out to the parking lot and showed me his pimped out Defender with a pulley system bed in the back! I love those things (Mark... not Amanda haha)
They had those street trains at Pisa in Italy and they are actually fun to ride. Our tour guide told us it was actually called a 'Choo Choo' so now whenever we see one that's what we call it anyway. Kara may have actually been right calling it that :)
Just stumbled on to your travel blogs! I love it! It's like I'm there sharing your adventures! Super cool you guys are from Nashville, I'm in Huntsville, Alabama. Had to laugh though when you got locked out, I'm a Locksmith! Keep up the cool travel Blogs!
I spent a day in Tallinn in 2016. It was really neat. I've been to most of the places you visited in this video and you've brought back memories. Olde Hansa has some great dark beer with herbs. YUM!
Hi guys! My girlfriend and I discovered you a few weeks ago deciding wich will be our next holiday destination! Since then you have become our new best friends! You both do a great job and are truly inspiring!keep up posting videos!!!regards from northern Spain
Estonia was actually ranked the best value destinations for 2018 by the Lonely Planet and a lot of tourists come here because of the Old Town and beaches. I love that you went to Kompressor to eat pancakes, I used to love that place but I could never finish the pancakes! (the staff has never been that friendly there, it's weird, but i swear, estonians are generally very nice!) It's also definitely a pancake place, not a crepe place. Crepes are much much thinner :) I wish you guys would have found a local estonian to show you places, for example the place where you saw the view was actually one of the smaller ones that you could go to and it overlooked the wrong way. I wish you had seen the larger one overlooking the entire old town, it's definitely worth it! And instead of Kalamaja you should have put Telliskivi into your google maps, I'm so sorry you didn't get to see the hipster places. We have some pretty amazing hipster bars and cafes there. The kilometer that you were looking for was actually on the other side of the park that you were in. I do hope you come and visit us again in the future! :)
Funny seeing you wander around Kalamaja, it's pretty big part of town. You should have gone to Telliskivi which is a very specific part of it, I'm pretty sure that's where you were supposed to end up:D
I really think Kara and Nate should somehow get the van over to Europe and do road trip through Europe in the van, now that would be amazing to see!!! 👍
Tallinn is beautiful. I didn't realize how much I'd love the Baltic countries. But, as it turns out, many of my favorite of the places you've been are actually located in this region! Between the cobblestone streets, the gorgeous, colorful buildings, and the interesting history, I'd love to spend some time here.
Absolutely, they are! They were never on my radar of places to go, but I can't believe how much I love them. I started a list of my favorite places so far, and on that list, my favorite Baltic locales: * Ljubjana, Slovenia * Rigia, Latvia * Tallin, Estonia * Split, Croatia That reminds me... do you guys think you'll be getting to Prague in the near future? I've spent many years wanting to see that city. ❤
FireCracker3240 - Ooh no need to be sorry lol, I hope i didn't come off as arrogant. Just wanted to clear things up as I'm from Serbia. Also if you enjoyed Croatia, you will LOVE Monetengro it has some amazing beaches try Budva.
About Kalamaja - I live 10min from the park you went to and know exactly that you were like max 15min away from the coolest area in Kalamaja. And it's right next to the old town! For others looking for information about Kalamaja - go to Balti jaama turg (it's a really cool market) and Telliskivi loomelinnak. Everything you want is there. Also Estonians speak really good english, so don't be afraid to ask for directions.
Came across your vids after looking at trains, then train snowblowers, then the Trans Siberian, then you guys! Great vids! You two are showing places like we would see them. We live vicariously through you two! BTW, I didn't know that Sandra Bullock has a twin sister! :D
Constructive criticism - something that makes travel blogs/vlogs more interesting is always local insights. In so many of the places you travel, there are really great local bloggers/vloggers (that even do their work in English) and could show you cool, insider-y things. There’s an opportunity to collaborate, which would be mutually beneficial to both parties, and yes it would take some more planning and research ahead of time, but I think it would give a lot more richness and depth to your trips. It would raise the profile of your channel to that person’s audience and theirs to yours. I watched your Paris and London stuff, and as a local in those places, I kept thinking “Why did they go there? Why did they do that? It could have been so much cooler” and that’s why a local partnership would be a really interesting dimension to your travel.
And maybe the angle of your channel is more travel hacks and stuff, but I think you make great clean content that would be better served with that angle. The ‘we went to X, met local expert and did Y’ rather than just airport lounges, airbnbs, generic tourist locations, ‘these people are nice’ kind of content
Just discovered your channel a few days ago, and I am completely obsessed with it! :D And seeing this just makes me remember the great time I had in Tallinn! Kompressor is just GREAT! Still missing those pancakes! For anyone seeking to discover Tallinn, I would also recommend to take a boat to Helsinki. A very unique experience :)
This place looks fantastic as well and yes I know that Google is the be all but I always have a paper map highlighting the good places to see in case you loose connection that way you are covered have fun and stay safe
Did you think that the host threw them out of the Airbnb or something? Cause that was what I was thinking when I saw the title but technically the title isn't clickbait.
It can feel like click bait because who "he" is was not specified in the title. I too thought their host kicked them out. I don't think they meant to make the title into click bait AND if this type of titling continues I'll watch less just out of boredom of the video not delivering on the excitement of the title. Kara and Nate or my new favorite channel though and to stop watching would suck. I'm a super literal person and this is why I'd get bored of the titles not delivering.
Nate, let me tell you a short story. Once while site seeing in the rocky mountains, we pulled off the road to let at the view. We were in a beautiful spot high up in the mountains. We both jumped out of the car - but both locked our doors instinctively. Yeah, locked out with no coats and keys in the ignition. Sooooo your situation was not too bad. Better to be in the hall than outside in the COLD. Ahh lifes adventures. ))
Omg you two are amazing, you're literally living life to the fullest. This is my dream, traveling across the world. I wish you guys would do a meet & greet (:
I learned how to drive stick shift in a Land Rover--with a ladder over the top--when I lived in the outback of Australia. They're heart beasts and take a lot of abuse--like driving on the wrong side of the road with the emergency brake on--plumes of white smoke out the back--but still kept on going--and still stayed in one place when using the emergency brake when necessary. Since I kept driving on the "American" side of the rode, my kids eventually refused to ride with me when I was driving.
There is more to do in Tallinn then the old town. Sad you didn't end up going to Telliskivi+culture kilometer. Next time also explore going to any of our islands too ;)
Dude, do you guys always go home when it starts raining? You're missing out on gezellig moments. The best time to sit in cafes is in the rain. Invest in some good rain jackets. It's just a little water, lol.
I was so excited when I found out you guys were going to the Baltics. Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia (along with Romania and Ukraine) have been on my Bucket List since I was 15 or 16, I'm 20 now and I can't wait to visit these countries hopefully in the near future. I agree that these countries don't get the spotlight they deserve, hope you guys make it to Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine in the future. (KIEV IS AMAZING from the vlogs I've seen) Just a suggestion guys :) Maybe you should put the city and country's name in the title, a lot of people like myself search for the country's/city's name on UA-cam's searchbar and click on vids that directly have them in the titles. KARA and NATE Roadtripping to all 50 states, I'd watch that.
That's too bad, I hope you'll freeze your ass off and get the worst experience in Estonia. Also, if you're Asian you're even more than not welcome here. xD I wish you the worst of luck here.
Here in Finland and same in Estonia from what I've heard, pancakes ARE what you'd call crepes. :) the American style pancakes... well, we just call them American pancakes. :D
Well crepes are over pan cakes where I'm from (estonian countryside and we call them ülepannikoogid) and pancakes are small pancakes which is made from kefir, flour and eggs.
I think even 'most parts' instead of 'this part' of the world is a correct thing to say. I also not get why they use the French word crêpe in the first place.
So, I´m an Estonian. Let me explain :D It's funny how your experience fully depends on where you go. I feel like older generation (starting from maybe 40+) don't seem friendly and the younger generation is more open, friendly etc. The pancake place, I went myself and was surprised by the robotic and unfriendly service :D You should have gone to the "hipster" part of Tallinn, with younger people haha For Example "Telliskivi Loomelinnak"
I agree ..sometimes it’s great to out of the box. As much I would love to go to Paris, Barcelona or London, I believe the too much tourist will ruined it. It great to go where the local goes, and it wonderful to discover these countries which has been closed to us for many and explore their culture and treasures. Estonia is now on my discover list. P.S.. get Land Rover to sponsor a road trip.
Estonia has a lot more to offer that you need to come back to...Kopressor has the best pancakes in the world, but the service has never been good there...and the old town is full of tourist traps...Kalamaja is a difficult place, but sorry for you, you didn't go to the seaside, this place is beautiful and there are most hipster cafes, etc.But Estonia will be waiting for you back when this covid is over.Greetings from Estonia
We locked ourselves out of our Airbnb once in Rome. We were leaving and had to catch a train, and didn’t realize that we needed the key as well for the outside door. So we were stuck in the stairwell between the apartment and the front door for hours while the host reached the housekeeper to let us out. D’oh!
One thing that I've learned in my travels is that NOT EVERYTHING goes as planned. Such things as weather, failed photo equipment, forget things at hotel, and illness can ruin a part of a day, a whole day or the whole vacation. IT SUCKS!
Maybe you just need to decide that whatever happens your going to have a good time. For example, I live in Scotland, it always rains when I go on holiday, always. But we just decide before we go that we're going to make the most of it and it usually works
Nate says it’s his fault for locking themselves out but after 20 months of Kara reminding him, he’s been counting on her to remind him. So I think it’s her bad for not reminding him 😜😉 Love this channel and your relationship
heheh so sweet, i am from estonia. and yeah many eldery and younger estonians can be akward socialaisng, we are still very young country it was until 1991 we cut ties with soviet union where things were rough it wasnt you know much personal development and free will but as goverment told you it is, much like north korea today and most of todays eledrly population lived in that time. but with a younger generation coming up in free country things has got much better and we are just preparing to blossom again as a nation .
Estonia is endangered country. See the stats. What "blossom as a nation" are you telling? With the USSR Estonia grew at an unprecedented pace, but after 1991 it is not. Do not be fooled by modern propaganda.
"free country" was there any kind of torture or restriction during the united USSR days? I and most of the people believe that USSR during that perod was a powerful nation. But now the fractured power with these small countries have thing called "freedom" but from what?
001rein I think that you guys should refuse everything that was built during the «Soviet occupation». However, you already almost all plundered and destroyed lol.
I always ask Eric if he has the key and wallet too! Glad you have cell service though to message the host. We don't have an international cell plane. You two are hilarious!
I am estonian and was watching your other videos and discovered your estonian experience.. I feel sorry for it. The market is the best in Kalamaja and very crowded! ;)
Hello from Tallinn! Olde Hansa is super fun, but that's really a place where only tourists go as you thought from the other video :D but its fun for experience :) That's sad ofc that you didn't make it to the hipster area. I didn't get what place you guys used for the reference, but Kalamaja was just a region or area like city center, its huge. That place should have said Telliskivi Loomelinnak - that's where the cool stuff and restaurants where. I'm so bummed they didn't direct you guys to the right place :) Have safe travels !
All Entrance Doors should have only Deadlocks, so that you need to physically lock the door with the key, that way you never lock your keys inside. Nice video :)
Guys, if you enjoyed Tallinn so much, you definitely need to go to Lithuania for a 4-5 days, visit places like Vilnius, Klaipeda, Curonian Spit and all the little towns there. You will be blown away. The Hill of Crosses was nothing in comparison :)
When ever you wanna go back to Estonia, there is so much more what to see and visit and i would be happy to give some directsions what or where to go/visit :) I have traveled around 20 countrys and currently in Australia for my 2 year visa (last 3 months to go). .. I am friendly .. :D
My wife and I have toyed with the idea of doing a Baltic trip next year. How many days would you suggest for Tallinn and Riga? Also, was there something specific that kept you from visiting Vilnius, Lithuania, or it just wasn't feasible?
Nice video and hi from Texas! I was planning to move to Helsinki but then the pandemic hit so people starting telling me that for music Estonia or anywhere more towards the east is great for artist. I contacted people in Finland and they all seem very nice but it seems impossible to have a conversation. I even got blocked by some Finnish people because I asked more then one Question. When it comes to Tallinn I am regularly talking to for different people and the Tallinn seem to a much better place when it comes to having fun or even the arts. Long story short I am waiting for the pandemic to end to just move to Tallinn.
Catching up on your videos and loved this one. Just like my day in Tallinn except for our walk to the street art was in the winter. Totally worth it tho
The market in the Raekoja plats is quite a tourist trap- about 95% stuff sold there has nothing to do with Estonia nor is it made in Estonia and is super over priced. Kultuuri Kilomeeter was way off from the point where you were, should have entered "Linnahall" to Google maps and you would have been in the start of the Culture km in no time. Sadly not much solid information in the internet about Tallinn I guess. It'll get better on time (except this year, 2020 is cancelled everywhere..)
Kara is a pre-school teacher that makes so much sense, she has the perfect personality for it, so caring and sweet.
..and Nate has the perfect husband personality for Kara! :D
Agreed
She's so good with the lil ones of their friends! Can't wait until these two have kids
Watching from the future ::: no sir your next purchase is a van lol
😂

These early videos deserve more views kids. I’ve been bingeing for days…😊
Turns out Kara and Nate part 2 did not end up being a road trip in a Land Rover, but instead in a sprinter van!
As a local guy, I've been going to the Kompressor pub pretty much since it was opened. The food is delicious, but man oh man, the 'I-don't-really-care-if-you-live-or-die' attitude of the staff there is rude even in Estonian standards :).
Haha - glad it wasn't just us who thought that about the 'tudes ;)

Wow! What a great old town Tallinn is! So old great buildings thank you Nate,Kate for the video 👍👏
Nice to see part of Europe that is off the beaten path. Loving the frequency of your videos lately. My daily escape!!
5:50: Nate said This is my dream car. Hi, Kara and Nate I'm from the future Aug 2020. You guys bought a van and travelling around the states.

You two has the best job ever, I like it.
I love how Kara's hair has been highlighted from being in the sun and not from the salon. It's looks so pretty i was shook.

1.50, the arched door on the right, I think that's the place we stayed when we visited Talinn. So far my favourite European city.
The church you were in is called St. Olaf's Church and it was once the tallest building in the world. In medieval times around 14th century.
The St Olaf who brought Christianity to Norway? Was he in Estonia, too?
Tallinn is definitely one of my favorite cities! I can’t eat enough of the local bread too!
I'm watching this as you guys get near country 100... And all I'm saying is PLEASE let Kara & Nate Part 2: Road trip be a thing after this year! 5:55
They had those street trains at Pisa in Italy and they are actually fun to ride. Our tour guide told us it was actually called a 'Choo Choo' so now whenever we see one that's what we call it anyway. Kara may have actually been right calling it that :)

There's no clickbait he locked them out of their accommodations..

Sorry, crepes are usually called "pancakes" in this part of the world...
In South Africa too. What North Americans call pancakes we call flapjacks. As frequent travellers, I expected them to know this.
I think even 'most parts' instead of 'this part' of the world is a correct thing to say.
I also not get why they use the French word crêpe in the first place.
Kris M Crêpes and pancakes are not the same thing
I’m from North America and that’s just what we call it we are pretty bad with in my opinion
They are two different dishes here....
Such a great, beautifully-edited vlog!
You were in volta at kalamaja, it between the hipster park and a noblessner port, so yeah sad that you missed the real place 😃😃
Haha it's on my bucket list to go to Latvia before, now definitely after. Or Estonia
I did not know that I needed to go to Tallinn until seeing this! It looks so beautiful!
9:50 that spot reminded me of some of the residential areas in West Germany 🇩🇪
You two are a couple of dorks. I love it 👫
I am going to Tallinn in July 2020! Super excited! Going on a cruise!
I’m guessing that got cancelled (it’s February 2021 now)
When he says “maybe Kara and Nate part two will be toad tripping in that.” Close a van but close lol
The Estonian “pancakes” are blini. I watch these videos and they remind me so much of Russia❤️
Nate says it’s his fault for locking themselves out but after 20 months of Kara reminding him, he’s been counting on her to remind him. So I think it’s her bad for not reminding him 😜😉 Love this channel and your relationship
Watching in 2020 like dang, Nates over here predicting Kara and Nate 2.0 road tripping.
heheh so sweet, i am from estonia. and yeah many eldery and younger estonians can be akward socialaisng, we are still very young country it was until 1991 we cut ties with soviet union where things were rough it wasnt you know much personal development and free will but as goverment told you it is, much like north korea today and most of todays eledrly population lived in that time. but with a younger generation coming up in free country things has got much better and we are just preparing to blossom again as a nation .
Estonia is endangered country. See the stats. What "blossom as a nation" are you telling? With the USSR Estonia grew at an unprecedented pace, but after 1991 it is not. Do not be fooled by modern propaganda.
Livonian, Danish and swedish times ~1k years were better. Our roots are more tied to those.
+Serge S Citation needed.
Did he really just say "Maybe Kara and Nate Part 2 will be road tripping in one of those"? Wow they predicted their future pretty close to perfect
How does Kara stay in such good shape!!!🌎🌎🌎
Margaret Kaufman They walk everywhere.
Little did they know but Kara and Nate part 2 was a converted sprinter van
I always ask Eric if he has the key and wallet too! Glad you have cell service though to message the host. We don't have an international cell plane. You two are hilarious!
5:35 future van life goes by ❤️
I am estonian and was watching your other videos and discovered your estonian experience..
I love Tallinn! Went there on our Baltic cruise!
3.33 isn't that the square where Spider-man Far From Home was filmed ?
All Entrance Doors should have only Deadlocks, so that you need to physically lock the door with the key, that way you never lock your keys inside. Nice video :)
Guys, if you enjoyed Tallinn so much, you definitely need to go to Lithuania for a 4-5 days, visit places like Vilnius, Klaipeda, Curonian Spit and all the little towns there. You will be blown away. The Hill of Crosses was nothing in comparison :)
When ever you wanna go back to Estonia, there is so much more what to see and visit and i would be happy to give some directsions what or where to go/visit :)
I have traveled around 20 countrys and currently in Australia for my 2 year visa (last 3 months to go).
.. I am friendly .. :D
I’m still watching this in 2020 great vlogs 🍟
I just realized the k and n in the intro stands for Kara and Nate😂
EVERY time we leave the house, my wife ALWAYS asks me “Hast du den Schlüssel.” I ALWAYS have the keys. LOL
Catching up on your videos and loved this one. Just like my day in Tallinn except for our walk to the street art was in the winter. Totally worth it tho
I enjoyed watching your videos....keep it up..take care both of you..

You have the same choice for cars as me
Good choice brother
The market in the Raekoja plats is quite a tourist trap- about 95% stuff sold there has nothing to do with Estonia nor is it made in Estonia and is super over priced. Kultuuri Kilomeeter was way off from the point where you were, should have entered "Linnahall" to Google maps and you would have been in the start of the Culture km in no time. Sadly not much solid information in the internet about Tallinn I guess. It'll get better on time (except this year, 2020 is cancelled everywhere..)
Is Baltic amber way cheaper over there then? I saw some necklaces
His glasses omg 😂 dad glasses
BTW, Kara? You looked adorable in that fur hat......Nate was wrong.
