I love Alkan's style! Sometimes he writes SATB or Bach on steroids, other times he just goes crazy with huge dramatic dissonant chords. Any idea of what the title translates to in music? I get the feeling this piece is about some seemingly happy village that has dark hidden secrets, or that its a village under a merciless siege. Whatever it seems to be about, the conflict gets resolved at the end.
Actually, this piece means "The fire of the neighbouring vilage". From what I understand, this piece represents a village that caught fire with it's habitants burning in agony. The title's in french btw :)
