It is an amazing feeling when you see how a simple melody turns into a masterpiece before your eyes! There are no words to express my gratitude for this lesson!
HI johnny iv just saw your new add. The one where the guy is overwhelming the student with what he needs to accomplish. If i saw this 2 years ag, i would have never given up . For me that add was achecklistt. And an understanding and exactly what people who are trying to learn piano need . You explained in 30 seconds what you need to learn and practise. And then for people who can do this they will add there own magic. Best add for learning i ever watched. Now i need to find an upright piano and convince people to help me get it up 3 flights of stairs.
I am a member of Piano with Jonny too and I am learning this song over there . Great place to learn piano. Infact I have quit several online websites in favor of theirs. The downloadable backing beats and smart sheet music make practicing so much fun. Worth every penny. And instructional videos like these can not be beat. Cheers
Really nice job on the lesson, Yannick. Clear, concise explanations with the perfect amount of info without being overwhelming. Positive reinforcement and encouragement. Seriously, I’m really impressed and trust me, when it comes to music/music theory, it takes ALOT to impress me. Great job.
Great lesson! I just joined @PianoWithJonny a couple weeks ago and I'm so glad that I did! Your lessons are the best! I still need to learn a lot more music theory, but I appreciate your sharing so much insight about shading and nuance with the chords. I have a lot of songs I am working on at the moment, but I have started working up some Christmas carols, so I will be coming back to this one again soon.
Then, bringing it all home to the beginning. I repeated it all to understand the major, major 7th, 11th, and so on. How hopeful I would feel to have these kinds of instruction learning many more songs. (And also learn typing as well!)
Very clear and useful as usual. I have to admit that I had ten years ago a very good teacher of harmony at University in Nice, it was very difficult at the time because I had no idea about harmony, but now I am so happy about the work I did. Next step now it is to put into practice that knowledge, which is esier to say than to do. Thanks anyway, amazing teaching
Great video! THANK YOU for offering this tutorial and arrangement. I really like your patient teaching style - learning theory and the “whys” of jazz style while having fun playing a nice holiday tune that’s entirely doable! 🎹 🥇
Wonderful tutorial! Love reharmonized ballads! One of the most satisfying things of being a pianist. This is a great version, not too crazy, just right. Thank you for doing this!
It sounds great. I feel the most important aspect of your lesson is showing the rest of us the method of turning any song into a much richer tune by using all those seventh, diminished or whatever other more complex chords. I doubt I will ever be able to use this method to jazzify some of my favorite simple songs. Nevertheless, it's a real pleasure listening to your performance and teaching efforts. Thanks a lot. Best wishes.
Fabulous- huge amount to digest ( hopefully apply, too!) but really clear & lovely melodic version. Very inspiring, as (always) is Jonny..thanks, guys & have good Christmas times!
Hi there, your channel is awesome, guys. But a quick tip just to make it more efficient and helpful for beginners is that you should colour the right hand notes in green and the left hand notes in red. Thanks guys!
Absolutely amazing ... As a matter of fact, this is so helpful so when I get my Yamaha Genos I can apply such rich lush chords which are sooo pinnical to achieve that interesting repertoire. Thanks a million
LOVE THE TUTORIAL, Didn’t quite get how you spelled out the Dm7 chord. Would you mind a slow explanation as I am a bit of a neophyte. Thanx a lot!!! John
Thank you John! We are adding an "extension" or additional note above the Dm7 chord to make it DFACE. The E is what we call the 9th. It works nicely because the E is the melody.
Great tutorial Yannick! I like the way you take time to go over the theory in chord passages and substitutions. You take a very easy simple song and make it sound so beautiful. Bravo! Can I obtain the sheet music for your tutorials? Thanks Yannick and Johnny. Two great musicians. Mike
You are really good! It would be even more helpful and clear if you could use green color for the notes of the right hand and red color for the left one.

You're a very clear explainer -- not only of what you did (adding extra notes), but also WHY, according to theory! Excellent demonstration.
Really nice job on the lesson, Yannick. Clear, concise explanations with the perfect amount of info without being overwhelming. Positive reinforcement and encouragement. Seriously, I’m really impressed and trust me, when it comes to music/music theory, it takes ALOT to impress me. Great job.

Absolutely lovely! Thank you for this tutorial.
Fabulous! We need more of these jazzy Christmas videos. Really enjoyed the breakdown of each chordal possibility and choice.
Then, bringing it all home to the beginning. I repeated it all to understand the major, major 7th, 11th, and so on. How hopeful I would feel to have these kinds of instruction learning many more songs. (And also learn typing as well!)
Fantastic video. One simple tune used to explain so much about (jazz) harmony and expecially, WHY it works so well.

Beginner at the piano, but I still got so much out of this. Looking forward to the days when I'm good enough to wear a hat indoors.
Is there a lesson of the arrangement that you played at the beginning of the video?
what brand is your piano
You are really good! It would be even more helpful and clear if you could use green color for the notes of the right hand and red color for the left one.
Amen❤🎉
I'm playing that song at my school
Great arrangement, just what I was looking for, but can you add an intro? Would be appreciated.
