    I have watched numerous videos covering eyepieces. This is the ONLY one that was truly informative.

    I am considering new eyepieces. I spent hours watching various videos and reading articles explaining eyepieces - this is faaar the best video i found and i think i understand the math behind it now. You saved me some money because before watching this i would buy eyepiece that would overkill the parameters of the scope. Thank you very much

    I just saw a vid from Lowell Observatory where they got eyepiece from Explore Scientific. 2" and omg 3"!
    That should prove ES eyepiece quality, not to mention their scopes.
    I'm personally dreaming of an achromat 102mm refractory from ES.

    A simple formula for lowest magnification is F ratio times 7. So an F5 scope of any aperture can use a maximum eyepiece FL of 35mm.
    F-ratio x 7 = Max EP FL
    Likewise, eyepiece focal length for the highest useful magnification is f ratio divided by 2 (assuming HUM of 50 times/inch). An F5 scope can use an eyepiece of 2.5mm to get maximum magnification of 50x/inch of aperture.
    F-ratio / 2 = Min EP FL

    Great video. Explore Scientific is to me the best. The 82° is perfect weight and eye relief. Of course the optics is also tops. The 92° is maybe the perfect series but they make only 2 focal lengths. They need to make more types. But 92° 17mm is the best in my 16 f4 scope and this I comparing to Ethos 17mm. To bad that these are so expensive lol but next sale will buy 12mm.

      Choosing an eyepiece, in many regards, is a personal choice - the biggest of which is eye relief and field of view.
      Oftentimes, people focus on the maximum useful magnification. The formula is the diameter of the objective (measured in inches) multiplied by 50. So, your telescope’s is 500x - 500 power. Which means that the eyepiece would be 2.4 mm eyepiece. In reality, that magnification will only be achieved under dark skies and PERFECT seeing conditions. In everyday use, half that will be the practical limit - so a 5 mm eyepiece.
      Which leads to the next question: What field of view. That becomes a money question, as much as anything else. A wider field allows your eye the ability to relax and wander around. That is beneficial because a relaxed eye makes for a much more pleasant viewing session.

      One thing to keep in mind - at high power things move quickly through the eyepiece. Thus, the wider the field of view, the less often you have to move the telescope. Additionally, having a wider field of view helps the observer keep the target in the eyepiece when moving the telescope.

      Depending on what you’re viewing, specifically fain-fuzzies like galaxies - high magnification renders them muted or invisible. These objects are typically more visible under lower magnification because of their low surface brightness.

      Explore Scientific’s most popular series of eyepieces is the 82 degree. This is the link to the online page: explorescientific.com/collections/82-series-eyepiece

      We have also introduced a more affordable line, the 52-degree series. explorescientific.com/collections/52-series-eyepieces

      There are many discussions about Explore Scientific eyepieces on the various astronomy forums. Here are some reviews on the 82 degree 24 mm eyepiece:
      WOW! Get ready to be blown away! Explore Scientific are the first true company that can honestly give TeleVue a run for their money! The view through this amazing eyepiece and my Nagler 26mm Type 5 are basically as sharp, full of contrast and arguably present zero performance distortion. For under half the price of the 26 T5, ES are truly on to something here and have joined the realms of the best premium eyepieces heavyweights in the market. Well Done, Explore Scientific...awesome!
      And....
      I have owned a lot of eyepieces over the last 38 years . This is now my new favorite . It gave great views through my 11inch dob of Jupiter , Saturn and Mars .
      I can’t wait to try it on my C-8 ! When it is time to upgrade eyepieces again Explore Scientific will be my first choice.
      And, regarding the 82-30: The fact that ES eyepieces are waterproof (sealed and purged with Argon (an inert gas)) makes your eyepieces extremely useful for the active amateur astronomer in the field. Thank you for providing us all with excellent products.
      You can go to our eyepieces and read the reviews which are at the bottom of each eyepiece's page. In most cases the writer's name is with the review.

    Too bad they did away with the 55mm flattener for the ED127. The one they have will not work with the 127. Pathetic.

    2:50 - "More magnifications produce a larger exit pupil..." = WRONG! You mean less magnification! Wow, you can't even say it right in your guide video!

    • @marcpopick248
      @marcpopick248 Рік тому

      What he means is higher number focal length is lower magnification. 31mm is higher number than 10mm. And larger exit pupil larger than 7mm is useless. Small exit pupil does give darker background but floater prevent lower than 1mm

    • @edfort5704
      @edfort5704 Рік тому

      He said 'lower magnification' not 'more magnification' which means he was right.
