LMAO that intro. I was 100% committed to watching the whole thing if you had just replayed the entire 003 review. 👌
me too.
BAHAHAHA. I should have done it. Would have been hilarious. 😂
Me too 😆
I was thinking the same thing!! So ready for it lol
Beautiful looking paddle, well done by Selkirk
Thank you so much for your review - I have been checking on your channel daily waiting for it to come out. Your reviews are always very concise and have very little, if any, biases. This is a great information to have. 003 was one of the best control paddles out there, and so is Luxx, but those who have 003 do not need to buy Luxx. When 003 wears out, Luxx could be a replacement. Plain and simple.
Who cares about the thickest paddle on the market. I wanna know about the thickest paddle reviewer on UA-cam 😜
Digital footprint
I kinda admire how you can post cringe like that without a thought
@@rampart5631 i appreciate the admiration 🙏
Wild
❤❤❤
I like it. Got mine today.
The intro made me chuckle
The luxx colorway is very nice though. Hoping to try one out soon!
0:51 giving senior pictures vibes!!😂
Thanks for review. I like the control Epic Vanguard 2.0. I want the control but increase in power. I will stick with the one I have right now.
Am using the Power Air Epic with lead tape. I have plenty of natural power coming from aggressive tennis ground strokes and strong volleys. Too much spin results in a a lot of tape shots and not great control around the kitchen. Two swings with a Control Air Epic felt wonderful at the kitchen where I like touch shots. Anxious to give it a more thorough test. I suspect it will elevate the launch angle on drives, but may sacrifice spin with serves.
I have a 003 with lead tape all around. I love the luxx. So much more control.
I have the 003 and demoed the LUXX. I agree with you 100% on this review. Sticking with my 003 for now
this is exactly what I was hoping to find out. I love my 003, might buy a luxx when I want a new color 🙂
@@MurgCognito two of my friends also have the 003 and we all decided, at the moment, the LUXX is not worth it unless if we want the latest “color”.
THAT INTRO LOL. That shit had me laughing. I loved that. Well done my friend, another wonderful review :)
I'm going to be honest. If you don't have power, you will complain about the lack of power with this paddle. I am coming from an 003 and I love this paddle because I am no longer afraid to actually drive the ball.
I have way better resets, hands battles feel more controlled and to be honest abover 4.0-5.0 it's about placing the shot IMO, you'll develop more pop with skill. depending on the pop from a paddle in hands battles is a cruch IMO.
it's a great paddle and everyone that is using one at where I play have nothing but positive feedback.
Do a paddle collection!!! Let’s see how much paddles you have!
Good review as always. Thought for sure the LUXX would push $300.oo. Glad I went with the Gearbox Pro. No honeycomb or paint grit.
Hope the release of after market grit sheets come out soon. Would for sure go to a "paint grit" paddle if this takes off.
You had me at the intro!😂
What is more important getting a paddle that enhances what you do well or one that helps you improve on your weakness?
I prefer control paddles, I am 6’3” so yeah a little extra power would be nice but this is a game of chess not checkers. Control and placement go a lot further than slams.
Good luck getting that wisdom through some of the thick headed aggressive types.
My Thermoformed Nova is all sweet spot.
I have two Project 003 paddles, a 6.0 dbd 14mm, and should be getting my Luxx sometime today.
It’s a great teaching paddle for coaches because its consistent and easy to maneuver. Just not for someone looking to be competitive. In my humble opinion
Yet a few pros love it and Jack Sock will be using it.
Those pros never played with thermoformed carbon fiber paddles.
Do you know when you'll do rpm testing on the Diadem 18k standard/power pro and the Volair Mach 1 Forza 16mm?
Awesome review as always Chris. I currently play the Halo Control XL and really like it. How do you think it compares to that paddle (I don't mind paying a premium for the Luxx)?
I was wondering, which one to buy the halo XL control/ luxx control air ?
Could you kindly elaborate on your lead tape set up. What is the lead tape's length? Did you use lead tape with a density of 1g per inch, or is it 1/2g per inch? TIA
Your review quality is absurdly good.
I need you to quit your job and come film for me.
Hey Chris any chance you can post some updated spin numbers from the same paddle now after your initial testing? Very curious to see more data around grit deterioration across all paddles when played regularly by 4.0+ players.
Do you think this paddle is better for control than the scorpeus and it will be better for hands battles?
Just got the paddle for $48 on sale
I was wondering now i rewatched it halo, vanguard air or lux air. It would be great and try to differeniate the three
Great review Chris! I’m curious to know how much weight you added to the Luxx?
Mine was bumped up to about 8.6oz
Would appreciate your comparisons be more related to more common paddles. I feel as if less than 5% of your viewers have tried a 003 let alone own one, so some of those comparisons do not mean much. I think a comparison to the Luxx's brother, the power air, would have been more suitable. Though opposite sides of the spectrum, it would be easier to paint an image as the chances your viewers have tried/own a power air is more likely. Great video nonetheless!
Appreciate the feedback!
@@PickleballStudioyeah like how would you rate the paddles from Chicken N Pickle?😂
I agree! I just tried the Luxx today and I am typically a power air user. The Luxx was really fun however if you are used to the power air it is a bit disappointing. Resets can be hilariously fun with the Luxx but being used to a power paddle I was extremely frustrated with how hard I had to hit and how exaggerated my movements had to be. I will definitely not be switching but many of my friends with softer paddles enjoyed the Luxx
@@blockchainbaboon7617I’m a power air user looking for something with more control, sacrificing some but not all power. I played one game with an unleaded 003, it was fun but the power difference was vast. Still looking
@@blockchainbaboon7617 this helps a lot. Thank you!
Just used the paddle today. It lacks in power for sure.
As someone who likes to switch paddles every 6 months or so I can't justify paying $250 for a paddle but damn I love the look of that paddle. That color combo is awesome.
i was the opposite on the color combo...funny how those thing work
yeah it's funny - I currently play with a Bread & Butter Filth, which a lot of reviewers and people who see it in person say is the best looking paddle....but I think it's kinda ugly. But it's a great playing paddle. @@brianbanks3044
Right there with you on the cost I change paddles about three times a year due to wear and tear. There are some great paddles to be found in the $130-$170 range.
Man, the lead tape, where in the contour do you put it?
Why did you never review the diadem edge 18k?
How much lead did you add?
question on lead tape technique, why do you prefer tape, compared to the 3gram separate sticky individual lead sections offered by manufacturers?
I frequently use those 3 gram strips. Probably more than regular tape.
I need to market and sell some 3 gram smaller strips in Tungsten....@@PickleballStudio
One thing about Selkirk is they have some of the nicest graphics
Would you recommend the Luxx over the 006?
@PickleballStudio I'm Guessing the "lifetime warranty" doesn't cover paint grit wearing down?
It shouldn’t generally. I’ve seen 1-2 cases of it being replaced, but I believe those were exceptions
@@PickleballStudio gotcha thanks for the reply. How long has grit been lasting on the idler generations of this paddle?
What’s up guys
I'm surprised that people are still willing to buy paint grit paddles in 2023. The grit wears off in under a month.
So in a price to performance and well roundness battle, do you prefer the double black diamond or Luxx Control?
If your focus is price to performance, then I think the DBD wins. However, they are very different paddles. Luxx is much more control focused. So it's not exactly a fair comparison. Would depend a lot on what the player wants from the paddle.
@@PickleballStudio that makes sense. These are the two paddle that have piqued my interest the most. Thanks!!!
I transitioned to the DBD from the 003 3 months ago. Do it, your game will grow. With the speed of the game, you must be able to keep up in hands battles. @@SilverPeach
@@SilverPeachsame for me. What did you end up going with? I’m leaning DBD but I love the color of the Luxx
@@toonspade4646 I haven’t purchased either. I’m still using my Vatic prism flash 14mm. But if I bought one today, it’s a tough decision. I feel as though the raw carbon fiber on the DBD would hold up longer if you hit hard drives a lot. But if prioritize control and resets, maybe go with the Luxx. I’ve also heard that the Luxx feels more like a tennis racquet if you used to play tennis.
Wrinkly shiiiirts ☄️
How is this different from Project 005?
Carbon fiber instead of fiberglass. Also 20mm on the control air vs 16mm 005. Spin is also way better on the control air
The Luxx was disappointing to me but not because it is a bad paddle. The Luxx is a wonderful control paddle but all my previous paddles have been power paddles so I just couldn’t seem to adjust to a softer play style. My friends that play a more defensive game loved it but I’m sticking with my vanguard power air.
*The handling was very similar to the vanguard power air. The sweet spot felt nicer than my power air. The extra handle length didn’t matter to me.
What's the best price/performance paddle? Gearbox Pro Elongated or Power Control Luxx.
I'm coming from the Power Air (8.9oz w/ lead tape). The best parts of my game are: drops, resets, and hands battles. I want to keep working on dinks at the kitchen and speed ups at the line.
This one will be great for drops and resets, and lacking for speed ups and hands battles. The Gearbox Pro Power Elongated will be the opposite. Bad for drops and resets, but great for speedups and hands battles.
This is why I am so conflicted😅
Do I lean into my strengths or give myself a boost where I am currently lacking? 🧐
“Best” is highly subjective. Both of these paddles are on the extreme ends for control and power. It’s possible something in the middle fits your game better than either.
@@johnny.torres You should just get an all-court paddle that is good at everything. Don't get an extreme paddle that's only suited to one thing. Power paddles are best for bangers who always slap the ball. Control paddles are best for defensive players who always reset the ball. If you like to do it all, get an all-court paddle, and do everything.
Thoughts on coming from a Perseus to the Luxx?
My friend plays with a Perseus and enjoyed the Luxx. I think it depends on play style though
Cricket paddle
The paddle 20% and player 80%, is the formula for winning 🏆🤔🤣💥
Your friend sounds like Mark Rober lol
I still play with the Selkirk vanguard 2.0. Am I playing with an obsolete paddle at this point? I do feel like I can’t generate a lot power with it. It’s pretty soft which is what I wanted as a beginner but now that I have a lot of control I feel like I can’t put the ball away with enough speed. Is my paddle kind of old tech?
I’m in the exact same boat
This is the paddle I am using now and love the control of the Vanguard but yes there are much better paddles on the market in terms of spin and power while still having the control balance.
I just bought the Luxx Control Air.
Selkirk Labs 002 is what you’re looking for 😊
I’m wondering if a color like that would get banned on the pro level
Failed ERNE attempt 7:47.....NO NO NO, Right foot on takeoff
I came down to the comments specifically to see if anyone else noticed.
@@spellmaster101 hahahaha love it!
Hrm he said all right guys instead of whatsup guys. Does that count?
How would you compare it to the scorpeus 16
When do you plan on making a review on the new Engage Pro pickleball paddle?
Reviewed it last month!
@@PickleballStudio thanks
Control power air? Thought it is called, Luxx?
😮😅 my my y
“5.0+”? Does he even know how to dink?
Bro , is there a paddle he says anything good about ?? 🥹
