Thanks for watching, we appreciate you taking the time! You might be asking why no vapor barrier...you see, I had it up and the sheetrock guy told me to take it down! OK! Either way, this Rockwool can absorb water and dry out with no risk of deterioration so I am not really worried about any vapor. Thank you for this video. I subscribed and shared, plus I hit the notification bell. This Transitioning Army Vet is going to be very busy. You don’t know how much you helped me!
This was a great idea and really good transformation. Although, I am wondering how the kids access the attic because it doesn't look as though it was a full loft conversion with a staircase.
I'm impressed you installed the ceiling fan assembled. I'm too lazy and install the motor to the ceiling and then the blades and light housing. Looks good.
Nice work Tyler! If you ever have to install a pre-hung door again a carpenter friend of mine gave me a great tip for hanging doors (especially by yourself). Put the casing on one side of the door with all the correct reveals and mitres. Then when you place it in the opening it can't fall inside of the opening. I used this method and after 2 or 3 doors I was popping them in pretty quick. Thanks for the great video and glad to see the kids are so smart and that cursive writing is still a thing! Peace, DC
I would have a small video camera in the main house so you can check on them without having to go upstairs. Also maybe a 2 way radio / Intercom ? That way you can call them down for dinner.
Let's see, a person who used to be a little boy himself believes placing the latch high up will keep little boys out is what i call a supreme optimist! Good luck😁😁
I'll mud and tape a patch, but the next time I do any real sheetrock work, I'm hiring out the mudding and taping as well. A good drywall person is an artist in my opinion.
Smart move on drywall mudding. It’s the worst and takes a lot of skill to do it right. Nice job on the room and I really like the chalkboard paint. Been thinking about doing that for my little girl.
Great project! I am good at trig, but I would have reached for my plumb bob to mark the top plate. Gravity doesn't lie (or miscalculate). I was expecting to see "The Wife" written on the chalkboard.
Fantastic job Tyler! Love the geek moment of trig. Now I don't feel so alone ... lol. always great to se your family in the vids. Best wishes and blessing to all my friend.
great addition to the house. I have a framing nailer that I bought to finish my basement. what a handy tool. I since used it to build a shed and my new shop. Just a tip. I prefer not to do math and measuring if I can avoid it. You could have used a plumb bob to mark the studs on the stair wall. You should install some carpet in that room. It will get rid of all the echo. (I am a carpet installer :) )
Great video! I just remodeled my attic as well... if you really want to reduce the echoing in the attic best option is to glue acoustic ceiling tiles right on the 5/8’s drywall👍🏻
This video is very handy. We just purchased a home pretty much with an attic like this. No insulation at all. Other than the floor for the bottom part of the house. What advice would you give us? We want to do it ourselves to save money. I know we need the vents, but not sure of the name nor the insulation type. Thanks again for sharing this video.
If I got something similar size attic outsourced, with extending my air vent which is right next to it, plus 2 windows, electric. so I don't get ripped off what would be a good price range to be quoted? I could do the floors myself to save money if needed.
Great job. agree on subbing out the drywall...itll drive you mad. One question, is there a reason you couldnt slide the door down a foot and get a full casing around the jam? cool vid
Nice work Tyler! A few year ago I did almost exactly the same as you did here. excepted for the large chalkboard. That is so cool and maybe i will install it in my kids room too.
I finished my basement and the only thing that I hired out other than the electrical was the mudding because the professionals get in done in no time flat. One question: why did you place the door where you did? Why not in the middle of the room? Otherwise, nice work, sir!
Nope....right onto the sheetrock. Pretty sweet! I am definitely going to be using the whiteboard option someday, an entire white board wall in my office! Thanks for watching Art.
Yo..Tyler you did this job in perfect timing I am working on my attic also thank you for this head up it will surely come in handy keep good be safe !!!
looks good very nice job, but i have a question, what about ventilation? do you had to add any attic ventilation fan or how you keep air flow in the summer for example, would it be to hot in the summer? im trying to finish my attic also thank you
Hey Shaun. We don't actually, in the summer kids play outside, in the winter we run a infrared space heater up there and that keeps them warm enough for a while!
Hey I live in Michigan as well . I have a question. I want to replace the plywood that’s weak in my attic . What type of plywood should I replace it with?
I left when he said a bad word!!.. trigonometry. :( ......lol great video....im.impressed and it wa s joy to watch. I'm a new subbie. My room mostly has what you done I wish I had someone to guide my project
So I have a very similar room and I’m curious to know is there a standard height that you want the sidewalls to be is it 4 feet or 5 feet or 6 feet I can’t really tail so I just thought I would ask. Thank you so much I’m getting ready to do my own bonus room and thanks to you I should be able to complete
Thanks for watching, we appreciate you taking the time! You might be asking why no vapor barrier...you see, I had it up and the sheetrock guy told me to take it down! OK! Either way, this Rockwool can absorb water and dry out with no risk of deterioration so I am not really worried about any vapor.

i would like to know the sheetrock guys reason for not having a vapor barrier? does it make his job harder?
probably not a big deal maybe just less efficient
Thank you for this video. I subscribed and shared, plus I hit the notification bell. This Transitioning Army Vet is going to be very busy. You don’t know how much you helped me!
Thanks Tyrese. ARMY STRONG!
This was a great idea and really good transformation. Although, I am wondering how the kids access the attic because it doesn't look as though it was a full loft conversion with a staircase.
Lovely! Happy children faces is the best reward 👍👍👍
Indeed! Thanks for watching!
Mudding and taping drywall is an art form. No shame in hiring a pro to do it in half the time (or less). Room turned out great! Thanks for sharing!
I don’t know if it is a door knob or not, but i do know Levers are so nice. We moved last year and our new house has levers and i love them!!!!
They are the ONLY way to go. We are going to change everything out over time. Thanks for watching John!
Все что делаете для детей - великолепно!!! Everything you do for children is great!!!
"Daddy, why are cutting a hole in the wall?" ... LOL !!! LOL !!! I remember those days from my girls, who are young adults now.
Your brother-in-law wears Carolina boots too! Great video.
Great boots! Lemme know next time when you need more....I know people!
Best decision you could make, hire that out. Drywall finishing will drive you (me) insane.
It really was....it is an art form and one I don't have! Thanks for watching Doug!
I'm impressed you installed the ceiling fan assembled. I'm too lazy and install the motor to the ceiling and then the blades and light housing. Looks good.
You are a master craftsman T.
Beautiful kids.
Thanks Tony!
Chalkboard paint is brilliant. May use in my garage for leaving "notes" near the laundry equipment.
Great idea! I think I will use the whiteboard paint they have to make a giant whiteboard in my office!

Must be a Mama yourself! We do have a monitor up there that allows me to see, hear, and talk to the kids as they're playing. I agree it is necessary.
Very nice & a good use of space.
IS there any air exchange in this room? (besides a fan) No need for a mini-split pump??
Let's see, a person who used to be a little boy himself believes placing the latch high up will keep little boys out is what i call a supreme optimist! Good luck😁😁
At least it's a little harder to get at. Thanks for watching Mike!
Just mark the bottom plate and use a level to make the stud plumb
Good job on the OYGB on the floor despite no Red or Violet.
I'll mud and tape a patch, but the next time I do any real sheetrock work, I'm hiring out the mudding and taping as well. A good drywall person is an artist in my opinion.
I agree with all you said! Thanks for watching Preston!
Great project. Perfect for the kids and the extra storage will be very useful
It will, way better that getting the ladder out to get at our stuff. Thanks for watching Gary!
Really great job. I'm sure the kids were happy with it.
Now that’s a giant chalkboard!!
Love, love, love!!
Thanks!!
And when he got into the trigonometry part, many eyes glassed over with a far away look.
lol! Only a second and I put it in there because I thought it would be helpful. Thanks for watching Nick!
So trig is useful for something other than electrical engineering.
Nice job Tyler
Thanks for watching Bruce!
Mudding is the funnest part.
Used this insulation a ton. Next time use a bread knife it cuts it like butter.
I saw that after I used my Buck knife...will get that a try! Thanks for watching.
What about the stairs? No one of you guys who covert your ceiling spaces addressed the issue of stairs. That would be a great video!
Smart move on drywall mudding. It’s the worst and takes a lot of skill to do it right. Nice job on the room and I really like the chalkboard paint. Been thinking about doing that for my little girl.
It was the best idea I had up there....drywall guys are SO much faster! Do the chalckboard paint man, its pretty sweet!
I just did a lot of this last week with the same baffles and Rockwool! Building an office for my wife.
Super presentation "DIYTyler"; Thank you very much for sharing.
Very cool 😎, great idea good know you tell mistakes and advanced to new ways ... thanks for the voice over ,
Great project!
I am good at trig, but I would have reached for my plumb bob to mark the top plate. Gravity doesn't lie (or miscalculate).
I was expecting to see "The Wife" written on the chalkboard.
Oh man...we missed out on that opportunity! Thanks for watching Bob!
Nice work, nice family
Thanks Patrick!
Fantastic job Tyler! Love the geek moment of trig. Now I don't feel so alone ... lol. always great to se your family in the vids. Best wishes and blessing to all my friend.
Thanks Michael! Happy Memorial Day!
Cosine and tangent... you dang engineers!!! LOL
lol! Good stuff!
I did a space almost exactly like that as a contractor in Detroit. my helper was sooo mad having to carry many sheet of drywall up a narrow stairway.
It was not easy to get them up but oh well! It's done and looks great. Thanks for watching man!
Nice job Tyler........ I'm sure the kids and the parents will love it......lol....... :)
We do!....and they do to! More of a winter room but they have been enjoying it during this rainy weather we have been having. Thanks for watching Don!
super cool idea! I didn't know they made chalkboard paint!
Roughly how much do you think this ran you? I just bought a home and it annoys me that theres so much usable space thats unfinished!
Beautiful Tyler , a great room , and happy kits . 🤗😍🤗
Indeed! Thanks for watching Louis!

Beautifully done playroom, now come over to Nana's and help me to do my attic with a dormer!! 😃
Chalkboard killed me with that squeal! Awesome build looking into this in the next few weeks!!
Really nice!...But no baseboards?
Here before a Million views!! This build was impressive

Awesome job Tyler! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred!!
She has better hand writing than me lol Nice job Ty
Nice room Tyler!!!
Thanks Matt!
That's a lot of light there, bro.
Never enough! Thanks for watching Bill
I just completed a 1500 sq foot basement with rockwool safe and sound and the best way to cut it is using a cheap electric knife.
If I got something similar size attic outsourced, with extending my air vent which is right next to it, plus 2 windows, electric. so I don't get ripped off what would be a good price range to be quoted? I could do the floors myself to save money if needed.

The existing stairs dictated where we needed to be. Thanks for watching!
Nice job Tyler.
Your kids have better handwriting than I do
They are pretty good! Thanks for watching Brian!
Nice work Tyler! A few year ago I did almost exactly the same as you did here. excepted for the large chalkboard. That is so cool and maybe i will install it in my kids room too.
It is by far their favorite toy up there....for now! Thanks for watching!
@@DIYTyler I'm sure it is. If i was a kid it would by my favorit place too

Great Job 👍
Good job compa ..
wait, did you put down some masonite/plywood on the chalkboard wall or is that right on the drywall? Never would have thought of that. Interesting...
Nope....right onto the sheetrock. Pretty sweet! I am definitely going to be using the whiteboard option someday, an entire white board wall in my office! Thanks for watching Art.
Very nice
Thanks Craig!
Nice room. A lever door knob would be a door handle. :)
no vapor barrier on the ceiling? I am curious.
how did you go about reinforcing the floor (ie the ceiling joists) which are usually 2x6
Good job man.
Great job on the attic space Tyler! Turned out very nice :) Thanks for sharing the video with us.👌👍😎JP
congratulations
Thanks Jose!
Yo..Tyler you did this job in perfect timing I am working on my attic also thank you for this head up it will surely come in handy keep good be safe !!!

“Dont.. be burned” so cute
Serious chills up the spine on that chalkboard. And all we parents know that the lock up high wasn't really on the storage room door, was it? ;)
Same here. Any lock is a good lock!!
Your daughter writes better than I do and your son who wrote on the wall after her writes about the same as I do lol
Think the best thing about my comment is I am 24 years old it probably doesn't help I'm dyslexic lol
Dude I can't even write cursive so she gets an A+ in my book and I'm 30 didn't have that in my school lol
She does very well doesn't she! Thanks for watching guys!
Just watching this video and saw that super nice shirt at 11:00 😁 Great work man!
That would be lever hardware or lever lock. I do enjoy your channel! Keep up the good work!
Thanks make sense! All I know is they are amazing, way better thank knobs! Thanks for watching Donnie.
Love it!
How has this effected ur utilities?
Hey Tyler, which leveling tools do you use for the door framing?
Just a two and four foot level. And a ton of wood shims. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYTyler No i mean the name of the black spirit level ...
I love Ethan 😍😘
I’d rather use plumb bob instead, love trigo but hey, good job man!👏👏👏👏
Thanks Jessie!
I realize it is an older video, but I highly recommend chalk markers... no squeak and it looks better :)
i put up so much drywall i have one arm longer than the other and a flat spot on my head..wheres your T-square ?? excellent video \MM/
lol! I need a T-Square....every time I have one in the cart I think how unoften I actually will use it. One day! Thanks for watching Doug!
how much was insulation? I feel like thats the most expensive part of the renovation?
i wish i could to this stuff by myself
Why no roof windows? I feel it's a missed opportunity to create a beautiful bright space with views
Tell me, Living in Michigan myself, what do you do to heat and cool the space?
Hey Shaun. We don't actually, in the summer kids play outside, in the winter we run a infrared space heater up there and that keeps them warm enough for a while!
Hey I live in Michigan as well . I have a question. I want to replace the plywood that’s weak in my attic . What type of plywood should I replace it with?
They are call lever handle locks

You didn't need baffles in the roof?
For one second, I thought that he will write "Ethanol".
you're a good dad....
Thanks John!

Thank you so much I’m getting ready to do my own bonus room and thanks to you I should be able to complete
Probably would have used a plumb bob or better yet a level. Not cause I can't do the math, but bc I'm lousy with a tape measure.
Look easy but isn't a easy task to complete just carry-on materials is a lot hard work plust all labor and tool needed but end day look good 👍👍
Wait no vapour barrier???
Sheetrock guys told me to take it down after I had it up. Thanks for watching man!
If it's a lever then it becomes a door handle since it's not a knob
Couple of bean bag chairs will stop the Ecco
Next time you hang a door could you make a separate video on how to? I’ve hung many doors sometimes easy, sometimes a nightmare
