- Restoring the chrome on this vintage Haro BMX bike was not easy. Intricate polishing was needed due to the interior angles, and it was heavily pitted.

My Grandfather was a Plater, I used to go in his shop back in the 80/90's. Your equipment must be ancient.
You can't change the laws of physics so it is all pretty much the same for the last 70 years or so

Never knew that was the process to rechrome a frame. I know where I'm going if I need chrome. Great work.

I also restore bmx bike frames but powder coat them, not easy items to work with hay ;) The buffing wheel I bet has some interesting stories throwing items :)
I got a haro I'd like to get it re finished, the chrome has only slight discoloration but mostly just scratched .

I’m tempted to send my ‘83 Mongoose BMX frame to you for plating…..I’ve owned it since new, and the factory plating isn’t all that bad, but WOW…..you do INCREDIBLE work. 👌🏼

So much drool. I have this exact bike and I really really want to get he chrome done again. I had no idea how much prep work was involved, guessing this process is expensive.

Absolutely insane! How much did this cost the customer? Blown away by the process. Clearly this can’t be done at home especially with all the steps and material/tools/water/chemicals needed.

Everything I've ever bought in chrome has had a 10-15% upcharge... back in the 70-90's it was cheap because they didn't care about the environmental impact.
BMX's had a standart price no matter what finish

DO YOU CAN GIVE SOME HELP FOR AVOID BASIC COPPER BATH WITH CYANIDE USING OTHERS PRODUCT? I USE SEIGNETTE O ROCHELLES SALT + NaOH + CuSO4
You need to get yourself a copy of the Canning Handbook on Electroplating. The older edition the better.
That turned out really nice, not surprisingly. I'm curious about what the plastic balls in some the tanks are for, what purpose do they serve?

What if I need to get paint off of a part can I just soak it overnight in acetone?
Yes. Solvents will not harm the chrome. Most paint strippers are okay as well.

They said in a previous video, copper layer is only needed if there are surface imperfections as it's a high build / thick layer that can fill minor pits etc and be polished up. I was surprised too. I thought copper then nickel then chrome was how it was always done, but apparently not

Should do. They were chromed originally.
