The guys that redo chrome make it 10x nicer than it was originally. I had things like car bumbers re-chromed and they turned out brilliant. The camera doesn't truly capture 100% of the beauty in things.
@@shawnbenson979 the bike was built last year and handed over to a proud owner down south. He is not a rider, but the Haro is proudly hung up on the wall of his office
You got rid of it? It was your original bmx and you got rid of it?? 😢 When I moved out back in 2001 my mother threw my baby blue with white mags gt performer in the garbage till this day I wish I could have that bike back damn I miss that bike.
Absolutely insane! How much did this cost the customer? Blown away by the process. Clearly this can’t be done at home especially with all the steps and material/tools/water/chemicals needed.
I’m tempted to send my ‘83 Mongoose BMX frame to you for plating…..I’ve owned it since new, and the factory plating isn’t all that bad, but WOW…..you do INCREDIBLE work. 👌🏼 Edit: I’m in the USA.
I also restore bmx bike frames but powder coat them, not easy items to work with hay ;) The buffing wheel I bet has some interesting stories throwing items :)
So much drool. I have this exact bike and I really really want to get he chrome done again. I had no idea how much prep work was involved, guessing this process is expensive.
Everything I've ever bought in chrome has had a 10-15% upcharge... back in the 70-90's it was cheap because they didn't care about the environmental impact.
They said in a previous video, copper layer is only needed if there are surface imperfections as it's a high build / thick layer that can fill minor pits etc and be polished up. I was surprised too. I thought copper then nickel then chrome was how it was always done, but apparently not ua-cam.com/video/RU9l66_XmDk/v-deo.html
I don't understand. The abrasive tools is sparking which means removing metal and I see SEVERE FLAT SPOTS. That means the frame is GARBAGE. To a true BMX COLLECTOR, it is no longer worth anything as it doesn't even weigh what it did new. You have destroyed the original frame. It is NO LONGER SHAPED as it was originally. You grinded metal away.
Another fantastic result ! @harrysgarage @ratarossa Very interesting to see the full chroming process, and how labour and energy intensive it is. Your viewers might appreciate a visit there if you are getting chrome restored.
My Grandfather was a Plater, I used to go in his shop back in the 80/90's. Your equipment must be ancient.
You can't change the laws of physics so it is all pretty much the same for the last 70 years or so
Ancient tools are often the best kind to work with imo.
Beautiful work...the big question...what would the cost be to do this bike in the video..?
Never knew that was the process to rechrome a frame. I know where I'm going if I need chrome. Great work.
Glad you liked it!

That's amazing. I didn't realize how much labor was involved. Looks brand new
This is badboy. Amazing mate. Old skool style. Badboy skills. Gonna bring my bikes to you
Brilliant job guys, I haven't gotten around to building up the bike yet, but will let you all know (see) how it went
well its been a year .... how did it go ?

Incredible workshop.
We agree!
What does a job like this cost please?
Hello sir, how much cost on like same bike project
Wow, didn't know it was that difficult to get the plating off. But it was worth it. Gorgeous result!
What should this cost. I would like to seek the service near me.
Legend..we are doing a project on an old torker. You have helped. Cheers buddy.
Glad I could help
The grinding and buffing work is amazing !
It has to be.

I really like your shop, really good work brotha man
I appreciate that!
Glorious work 👍
Thank you! Cheers!

Amazing work - simply stunning results
That’s an incredible amount of work !!
Oh yes
How much does it cost for a 16” bike ?
Is it possible to put ceramic clear coat on top of chrome ? That see threw sheet
What does It cost to do this?
Great video. I always wondered how it was done, and done properly.
Thanks
What did this cost??
Yes
That came out beautiful!!
That turned out really nice, not surprisingly. I'm curious about what the plastic balls in some the tanks are for, what purpose do they serve?
Insulation
I believe they also help stop evaporation of the liquid below
Pls explain the plastic balls.regards
Does the thickness of the plating effect areas with press fit components like ball bearing cups?
It depends on the part
I got a haro I'd like to get it re finished, the chrome has only slight discoloration but mostly just scratched .
Amazing work 👌🏽
Thank you so much 😀
Absolutely fascinating! Thanks! True professionals👌
Beautiful work. I'm wondering why you didn't need to copper plate before the nickel? Is it because there were no corrosion pits to fill?
So much drool. I have this exact bike and I really really want to get he chrome done again. I had no idea how much prep work was involved, guessing this process is expensive.
How do I get my BMX Chrome plated like this in the video
What kind of chrome yall using hexovailant or decorative chrome
Beautiful job...class video👏
Thank you very much!
Like a lot of other folks I wanna know how much does this cost? Looking at all that labour it can’t be cheap!
What are the plastic balls for in some of the tanks?
Insulation
Another great video. Bring back memories of my 47 years in electroplating. 👍
DO YOU CAN GIVE SOME HELP FOR AVOID BASIC COPPER BATH WITH CYANIDE USING OTHERS PRODUCT? I USE SEIGNETTE O ROCHELLES SALT + NaOH + CuSO4
You need to get yourself a copy of the Canning Handbook on Electroplating. The older edition the better.
What if I need to get paint off of a part can I just soak it overnight in acetone?
Yes. Solvents will not harm the chrome. Most paint strippers are okay as well.
so do the welds on the bike disappear
Only if you polish them away
Man you guys do a great job!...wow!...I'd like to have you do my GT and my Haro but I'm in the United States 😪
Does the king reply? I have a haro i would like to chrome as well good sir
Yer a wizard Harry!
Love the underwater fottage. I wonder how the Companies did not take a higher price for chromed models
Everything I've ever bought in chrome has had a 10-15% upcharge... back in the 70-90's it was cheap because they didn't care about the environmental impact.
BMX's had a standart price no matter what finish
So no copper-layer for this bike? Why? Thanks!

Thanks. I could not have explained it better.
Not needed and also issues with coppering hollow parts.
@@ChromeandCarRestoration thank u…
Sir, are there other ways? Is spraying the same thing?
I see a clip of an old guy using tin foil and Coca-Cola and it was working.
Outstanding!!
Thank you! Cheers!
amazing
Thanks
Top job!
Thanks
I am a BMX-fan...how much was this restoration?
Buckeroos
just WOW!!!!!
Thanks
Nice bro...from malaysia
Thanks and welcome
and are the bearings still going to fit on the forks
Should do. They were chromed originally.
RESPECT !!!
oh yeah do u have to retap the cranks
Not normally
BMX's usually have compression cranks - e.g. un-threaded
Interesting 🧐
Great!!! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I've sent you an email a couple of days ago but I haven't got a response. Could you please look into it ?
What are the balls for in the solution ?
insulation
Very Nice ‼️ 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤩‼️🔝🇧🇷
Thanks

Just found your vids. Superb and look forward to more.
Awesome, thank you!
Excelente 😎
Looks like a expensive process I need to do a bike that isn't near as bad....
So much work on cheap bike
Sentimental value.
Depends on where your viewpoint resides.
So much ignorance.
This is ALTERATION and DESTRUCTION not restoration. The destruction of a survivor BMX angers me to no end. DO NOT DO THIS. It's ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE.

Nah, looks like a 95-96 Super Blammo, still a couple hundred bucks. Looks amazing, and was saved is what matters.
