Why SHOULD you apply LIME to your Lawn?

  • I don't do very many super detailed/informative videos, but for applying lime, the why's/when's/how's, I see too many varying opinions. So, I try to simplify this subject, using Soil Doctor LawnLime. Hopefully I clear up the process of applying lime... if not, let me know.
    As I said at the start of this video, The Grass Factor just released a very detailed video on this very subject, and I highly recommend checking it out, • Understanding LIME for... .
    I created new stickers and ordered more of the old design, so if you want a sticker, email me @ cmorga02@gmail.com

    Another way to tell if you have an acidic lawn is if you have dandelions. This is also an indicator, that your soil is calcium deficient. If you try to remove the dandelions, they will come back with a vengeance. The soil table is dense clay or compact, so aerating and a good quality lime, with additional calcium products, will definitely help.

      Thanks for the info. Dandelions come back because they go so deep that you cannot get the whole root system Most plants will not come back if you get most of the root but not the dandelions. That just pisses them off ha

    So important to invest in a soil test, and then to learn how to act on the results. Great way to learn how to manage your lawn. Because pH takes so much product to see the balance change, just plan on regular applications throughout the season. Nicely done.

    Been having rough looking grass, years of leaves coming down from a well established behemoth of a tree. Its got to be 250+ years old and its majestic and a vast canopy that keeps my house cool and shaded year round. I finally turned my soil into an unbalanced ph atmosphere, even though I rake and bagged 50+ large black bags every year. Started getting die off, looked like mole crickets or chinch bugs. Investigating and found no evidence of any destructive insect. Narrowed it down to either a fungus or soil inbalance.
    Lack of irrigation, narrowed down my casuses. So it lead me to getting a 10 dollar 40 lb bag of lime from local hardware store. Put on some gloves for PPE and hand tossed, the contents from a 5 gallonn bucket. You would be impressed by my skill at evenly spreading any dry granular throughout my property, 20 years exp haven't stripped a lawn in 18 of em. I've prolly got 3k sq feet of grass, went heavy and put it down right before a big rain, with a tropical storm coming later in the week. Hoping for a quick recover, normally a lush lawn. Lately looking like ass that I am ashamed of letting it get to this state.
    Looking forward to the results, already have applied morganite for a cheap in spring food and then applying a slow release nitrogen with a coated neonicotinoid to give me lasting protection this summer from destructive pests, and from grubs in winter months. Im in FL so dealing with St Augustine grass.

    • @DaddingAllDay
      @DaddingAllDay  2 роки тому

      I love the Menards call out. The purpose of lime is to change your soil pH level. It does not effect weeds or the color of your grass. The reason it's important is because if your soil pH is too high or too low, your grass will not utilize the nutrients you give it with fertilizer. So while it doesn't effect your grass directly, it does help the soil your grass uses for water and nutrients. I hope that helped.
