I've been watching drag and drives for a long time. What amazes me is the cars are getting quicker but whats amazing is the cars are getting very reliable. Keep up the good work.
Absolutely awesome coverage you guys. Love the nostalgia and especially appreciated the lady pushing through the issues with the 69 Camaro. Bravo y’all! Some hard core racers clearly having a blast there.
I graduated from Tucumcari NM HS back in the day...at 8:01 on the video, you drive by "Rivera's" Kustom Body Shop (looks closed). That used to be Zeke's Kustom Body Shop...Zeke was a character...had a nice 58 Chevy Pickup with a "Corvette" 283 SBC. OBTW, when an alluminum rim is leaking like that (whether a porous cast or incomplete weld), a lot of times you can fix it by rattle can spray-painting the inside of the rim.
I've cracked 2 weld draglites 15x3.5" fronts over the years, those skinny wheels don't take the road use. Had a triple disc billet Duramax converter leak thru a porus weld once. Stuff like that seems to pop up when least wanted.
The new inline six was definitely holding its own it sucked the rim ended up failing but nothing a Route 66 muffler shop couldn’t toss some bubblegum welds on a couple of times to keep you rolling.
I was stoked seeing these guys driving on Route 66 through Albuquerque then I got to see them in Edgewood, NM as well. Pretty cool, and yes NM road construction sucks!
Had the same leak on a new weld wheels, you would think that wouldn't happen to such a well known company. I thought it only happens to me but guess its happened to more than you know, I hope that Weld Wheels gets it figured out
idk if anyone ever tried but modern bicycle tyres run tubeless with the help of a sealant, which is usually some sort of silicon flakes in silicone milk. If you get a puncture, it self-seals because the flakes clump up together at the puncture and reseal it. Might work as a quick patch with small cracks like that, especially since it works on bike tyres with 120psi on them.
I have Harley’s with spoke wheels and they have a black rubber strip sealed to the rim where the spokes come through the rim so even something like that would keep the center of the wheel sealed. On dirt bikes I used to put a lot of “Tire Slime” in them even before getting a hole in them because it was inevitable that I was going to puncture them and it always helped doing that. That slime quite possibly is made of the silicone based products you’re talking about, but that stuff relays on centrifugal force to spread all inside of the tire so it would never make it to the inner part of the wheel let alone stay there, it would help in tire punctures though. However in Toms case with the cracked wheel I feel any sort of leak prevention on the rim itself wouldn’t give him an indication that the wheel is failing and about to break. If it wasn’t leaking he would have ran that wheel till it breaks and that would either be at an inconvenient time or a very dangerous time. It’s best the leak was there to show him the wheel was failing.
@@deegan727 Yeh, bicycle rims have a rim tape aswell, wasn't sure if it was enough tho. For the sealant you can keep the tyre on by removing the valve stem, which removes the hassle of removing the whole tyre. Thought it might be a bit easier than removing the whole thing.
@@deegan727 But I agree, after fixing the punctured tyre in this case I would've looked deeper into it anyway and only done it if I knew it really was a pin hole and no crack or anything. Also the bicycle stuff is literally thick milk, so if you can hop the tyre around on its own under pressure it could get to the pin hole and driven in there by the escaping air.
The bicyclists have a sealant they use for to going tubeless. Some guys have used it for sealing porous Volvo wheels. Almost any bike shop will have some. Pull the valve core, add a few ounces of sealant, air the thing up and bounce it around a bit. But then, tire stores generally have a few wheels in stock.
What's not to love, most countries wouldn't allow any of this, traffic mob would be all over it, and vosa too be chopping people down. Hellava shame folk can't have a little fun in life... you're so lucky to be cruising free...❤

Crazy the .700 lift cams can last without eating valvetrain.
Thank you for showing New Mexico some love. Hope to join you on your journeys with my pickup soon Tom. Thanks for all you do.

Almost 30 minutes of beautiful cars, beautiful scenery, great sounds, along with some back story and car info.. amazing video!
Man that jeep wrangler on the track hawk frame and suspension was awesome!! That had to be some work!!
Tom your really doing a great job of showing America and it’s history! This is another of your best videos!

It was great to see you guys out at Albuquerque Dragway!

OH YEAH, LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL.. !!!! T.B. ROCKS THE PARK !!
Can't complain Tom, you knew what you were up against on the original Route 66, you even told the rest of the participants

Great video 👍
My 2¢, not a fan of the lights on that nice ride, makes it look like a PT Cruiser light.

Thanks for the video!
I lived in Illbequacky for a while.
Yessir let's ride brother 💯🇺🇲🏁🏆🦅
Put a tubr in the tire or Jb weld the hole shut. Last resort, fix a flat! 😂
I was thinking Slime. But not sure it would work down the wheel?
There is a line in the Linda Ronstadt song that goes “ I’ve been from Tucson to Tucumcari, Tehachapi to Tonopah.”
7:42 o no they didn't mark it 😂
Shoulda marked that leak before pulling the tire
Jemez Springs!!!!!
Any info on the second gen Ramcharger ? What parts where used etc. I’m kinda a Ramcharger fan from way back.
Nice video 😊
This train dont stop in Tuchumcari.
SEE YA TOMORROW..
time for JB weld!
Jb epoxy on the inside of rim and should seal and get rid of wheel after travel
I’d hit the first wheel shop I came across and just buy something that fit.
Route 66 , 30 yrs ago , would you have been able to get an Aluminum wheel welded , I know Aluminum wheels were rare , but we've come a Long Way
Are you going to eventually do a give away contest on that Ram Charger?

Does anybody out there have a tube that will fit in this wheel and tire please send it to Tom Bailey
Don't know what it is but these dude's just upset my mojo. Especially s/m.
If you are going to buy chinese wheels, or any aluminium wheel, spray paint the inside to stop the leaks.
What happened to Bob? He in witless protection?
