I work with Polymer Clay and have an Etsy shop myself and often need these tutorials to learn new thins. But I must say out of all the tutorial videos out there, ya know the fancy dancy ones, I absolutely love yours. I love the fact that you leave in the small bits of knowledge and explain everything that you're doing. I had no idea what a "Skinner blend" was and I've worked with Polymer Clay for several months now >.> I know there is so much more to learn with this medium as well as many others. Thank you sir! :D
Along with this being an awesome video (pause button and the "slow down" feature on all youtube videos aid in getting a better understanding of the process he went through), what I LOVED is how HONEST you were about how when you get to a certain point in cane making, one panics....no matter how experienced you are. The reducing part in particular....I love that you verbalized that. Cane making is never the exact same process twice, it requires flexibility, patience, the ability to keep in mind the end result and the willingness to risk doing things that MAY not work in the end. But when it does......ohhhhh YES! Thank you for this video!

I really enjoy working with polymer clay and recently I was baking cookies in tubes and wondered if the cane application would work for cookie dough so I used this video to make butterfly wing cookies I made a whole tube I can freeze and bake whenever I want. They actually turned out really pretty just butter cookie dough slightly modified and food dye. Thanks for this tutorial!!!

Fabulous...most realistic butterfly I've ever seen. What a painstakingly beautiful process to get the blend over the whole wing instead of each piece. Brilliant! Thanks a bunch; I know the amount of time it took to edit this was immense.
I am new to polymer clay, although one of my daughters is quite good with it. I am a bit intimidated with the process you showed and grateful for the different angles and explanations you gave.
This makes so much sense now. I have watched many video's but either they stop with the beads, or get the different shades blended in and stop. For a newbie I want to see what happens step by step all the way to making a butterfly in this case. Very interesting and of course I love butterflies. Your video was excellent.
The colour graduation effect and contrast with the black gives a totally gorgeous Tiffany glass effect. Thank you Tom for making this brilliant tutorial. I really want to start learning howto work with clay--I don't even know what types of clay should be used for any particular creation I might want to bring to life--and I just happened on your video and basically I am still in shock. Your work is stunning. Do you have any advice on what tools I might want to purchase? Are you a fan of one big set in particular? Also, I noticed you were doing most of your 'rolling' work on that beige-colored thing with all sort of bevels and curves--what is that? What clay would you recommend for a beginner, and do you know of any great books that I might purchase? I learned knitting and crocheting by reading the books, so now with books AND UA-cam and YOU, perhaps I can learn this complicated process a bit quicker than I had hoped. It is all very intimidating--especially after seeing your work. Gorgeous! Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!!! Keep on keepin' on!
Polymer Clay Artist this is so incredible. I'm just a beginner. I would love to try doing it but I will have to wait till I'm much more advanced before I try. I love butterflies, have lots around my yard, last year I saw a iridescent blue one, but with like a skimmer white not black. Most beautiful one I have ever seen, some day hope to make one. Thats a great Tutorial, probably one of the best I have ever seen. The way you describe and show everything is so helpful. It must have been hard to find a good camera ankle from wich you can record everything so good while still working without blocking the few with your hands. Thanks you very much for this tutorial. I haven't had the courage to do butterfly canes until now :)
This is so fantastic!! I use a lot of butterflies and insects in my artworks but I'm not sure I'd be able to do this!! Haven't had the best luck with the pasta machine, usually other colours get into it as I can't seem to get all the old clay off the inside of it so it spoils the new clay. These are just wonderful and so natural and perfect looking! Thank you for sharing!!
