    Do you all think MFT is dead or close to reaching its end?!

    • @sdhute
      @sdhute 3 роки тому +5

      MFT for its size to performance will be around for a long time. People need to remember that MFT was developed even when full frame existed for a purpose. Some reviewers want us to think we are running 1.0 in a 3.0 world. That is not the case at all. Those other sized sensors already existed.

    • @exploringwithdadja8743
      @exploringwithdadja8743 3 роки тому +6

      The only thing that is killing mft are the Creators worshipping full frame and bokeh tbh when I see a good video I never asked a question "what camera did he used"

    • @JakeMcHugh
      @JakeMcHugh  3 роки тому +3

      @Steve H You make some good points. I think for some street and wildlife shooters they will continue to use MFT as the size and crop factor helps in certain situations. I wonder how it will be once 6k or 8k starts to become the standard as the sensor size might not be big enough. The value for money is something else I think will keep it around for a while as well!

    • @JakeMcHugh
      @JakeMcHugh  3 роки тому +1

      @Dadja Yeah I hear what you are saying. I do think that full frame does have its advantages and is better for certain things, but I don't think it is the end all be all for everyone. I'm not sure if it's the price tag for those cameras that draws creators to use them as a flex or what haha.

    Have been a G85 user for 5 years. The auto focus for me is not a big deal as I mostly use manual focus, love the "IBIS" built in the camera, and what I love about Panasonic is the consistent firmware updates and how they continually support their older cameras even the G85 which is probably 6 or 7 years old now since it's first release! My G85 just keeps getting better even the auto focus with every new firmware update!

    If you're looking for a small budget GH5, the G85 is it! I think it's a great starter 4k camera and if you decide to go with the GH5 later, you can keep the lenses and use the G85 as a backup.

  • @GonzTheRealtorGA
    @GonzTheRealtorGA 3 роки тому +1

    Great video! So I’m looking to change camera systems and I’m really digging the Panasonic line. I currently have a Sony A6600 and I’m disappointed in it. Question, now that the G9 has been updated to have more video centric features similar to what’s found on the GH5 (and better video autofocus), would you recommend the G9 or GH5? I would consider myself a hybrid shooter, although I lean a little more towards video. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @JakeMcHugh
      @JakeMcHugh  3 роки тому +8

      If you lean more towards video I think I would still choose the GH5 because of the video centric features it has compare to the G9. I will break this down a little more in detail below.
      *GH5 vs G9*- Both of these cameras have the same sensor. One isn't newer than the other in terms of that, but the G9 has a newer processor in it and because of that it has a slightly faster autofocus system in it and it is better for video autofocus as well. Both have VFR and you will have to Manual Focus on both in this mode.
      *What Makes the G9 Better*- Better Viewfinder, Lighter by 2.5oz or 70g, Higher Burst Rate, Higher Electronic shutter, Night Mode, USB Power Supply (like a USB battery bank for charging), Better stabilization when using Dual I.S. 2 Lenses by 1.5 stops and more better photo feature while being the cheaper camera as well. This is the better camera for someone who values Photos and video equally!
      *What Makes the GH5 Better*- Slightly Better LCD Screen, *Unlimited* Recording time, Cinema 4k, All-I 400Mbps (G9 does only Long GOP at 150Mbps) This means that the 10bit 422 is better on the GH5, It's a true multi format camera so it can shoot in NTSC/PAL/Cine which is a true 24fps not 23.97, Anamorphic Support, Vectorscope (you only get waveform on the G9), Focus Transition (Focus Racking build into the camera), Time Code Support, and the XLR 1 adapter can be used with this camera if you want to use an XLR mic with it.
      You can set up the camera to use Shutter Angle and this is huge for me. Instead of having my shutter speed set at 1/50 for 24fps and 1/125 for 60fps, I can just set the shutter angle at 180degrees like a cinema camera and whatever frame rate I'm in it will double the shutter speed for me. It also has Synchro Scan which allows you to adjust the shutter angle at one degree at a time to help you sync it up with room lights or screens. One last thing on the GH5, when using a recorder, if you press the record button on the camera it will trigger the recorder to start recording as well. This is something that can't be done on the G9. As you can see the GH5 is probably the better choice for a video first user!
      I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    • @JakeMcHugh

      Out of those choices I think I like the G85 because it’s the best all around camera for the money given the options. You get a nice looking image with good IBIS in a smaller body if size matters to you. It lacks good autofocus for video use, but if you are behind the camera most of the time this should be a non issue. Just remember it takes more than just a camera to get a cinematic image. Lighting is the most important when it comes to this in my opinion. I also recommend checking out this video here where I compare the a6400 against the G85:

      The GH5 shoots in 10bit so I was able to tweak the colors more and it handles the saturation of colors better. I bought one a week ago in a local deal here in Switzerland (G81 variant of the "G85", so it does have the recording limit). For US$465, this camera had only a 4000 shutter count, a body in EXC condition, and it came with the 12-60 kit lens and the Lumix grip/battery extension (incl. 2x batteries). For the money, this (EXC) second hand camera is a terrific value IMO. I have been using over the last two weekends and it is a big improvement over my venerable OLY EM-10. I am using it mostly for photos, with the 4K video ad hoc. With IBIS, it is also perfect for shooting with my collection of vintage lenses. Love the way it feels in the hands, especially with the battery/grip extension. This accessory allows me to shoot in either landscape or portrait and always have positional access to the primary and secondary dials. Basically, the kit lens plus battery accessory would cost close to the total, so I got the body close to free!
