I am Thai. I like Master Andy Lau playing Pipa. I have listened to many versions, but none are as beautiful as Master Andy Lau. I don’t know a word of Chinese, but I like listening to Chinese music. My three favorite musical instruments are Pipa, Erhu, and Guzheng. I feel happy when I listen to them. I also really like watching Chinese operas, Chinese movies, period movies, and Chinese dynasty movies and documentaries. It is truly great.
I heard this guy play in a basketball gym in San Francisco in the 1970's. I wasn't impressed at all. The sound was thin and the playing was rough and extremely fast. The pipa is relatively small and is not meant to be played in large venues without microphone. Here the sound seems refined, with the help of recording equipment, of course.
blame it the design of theatre hasn't been smart enough. Ancient Greek theatre may allow the sound of a dropping needle to resonate all arround the audience side.

劉德海（1937年8月13日－），出生於上海，中國琵琶演奏家、作曲家、音樂教育家。1957年入中央音樂學院，師從林石城，曹安和、楊大鈞。1962年中央音樂學院畢業後留校任教。1964年到中國音樂學院任教。1970年任中央樂團的琵琶演奏員。1983年起任中國音樂學院教授、副院長。2007年獲國家教育部授予的第三屆高等學校教學名師獎。
