Thanks to you for giving me the opportunity to discover this wonderful woman I didn’t know at all . I remember seeing the movie “par hasard “ but I didn’t know where it came from ..... I’m going to love her books ,as my passions are books, history and knitting 🧶! MERCI BEAUCOUP À VOUS DEUX ! Take care ! Bye 👋 de Québec 😘🙋♀️🍀
What an amazing interview, and amazing woman! Definitely I will be reading those books. A Cowichan sweater is one of those knitting patterns that I would love to knit. Thank you so much for this interview, loved it😀.
Hello thank you so much for this video and interview. Im an indigenous knitter from New Mexico, Dine or Dene. I did not know about the co salish. I knew about cowichan sweaters but I get it... I am so grateful for this connection.
Hi Guys: Sylvia was such a great choice for an interview. I have purchased some bulk yarn from Sasquatch Trading who sells to the Salish knitters on my last trip to the Island and want to design and knit a Cowichan in the traditional style. Know that I know a new book exists I will be on the search for it. Thank-you Thank you Thank you!
Thank you for a great interview! I enjoyed Olsen's "Knitting Stories" some time ago and actually knit a couple of the patterns from the book - love. So much fun to catch up with her today.
LOVE this episode! I learned so much and really appreciate what you bring to the knitting world. I am going to check out more on Sylvia Olsen, she is an amazing woman. The history lessons are invaluable.
Wow!! Sylvia Olsen is just as I expected her to be. Fun, talented, sharp eye, love for knitting and a story teller- a passer-on of history on many subjects. I was disappointed that I didn't get a chance to meet her on her cross Canada trip. Thank you Christopher and Jamie for hosting this fabulous interview. My knitting mojo was stuck out in left field but after watching this Woolcast, I think I just may have found it!! Can't wait to see who's up next. Stay Safe Be Well Have fun!!
Thank you for this wonderful interview. I have ordered the book and will keep checking Salish Fusion website for the availability of their yarn. I look forward to each of your episodes.
Great interview! Sylvia is truly an iconic Canadian and treasure chest of knowledge of our knitting traditions. I’ve ordered the book and look forward to a great read. I feel a Harry Styles sweater KAL may be in order, hmmm? I would be so in! 🥰🧶🌷
I always love your videos but this one is such a special one. It brought back some memories. Years and years ago I too knit my little boys matching Cowichin sweaters from what was called Buffalo Wool. At that time I lived in Drumheller AB. When they outgrew them I had moved to BC, and I gifted them to my neighbor's little girls. A few weeks later I saw these tiny little sweaters hanging on the clothesline. When I asked what had happened, she said she had washed them in the washing machine and they shrunk. She didn't have time to wash them by hand. I was so bummed. Thanks again. I can hardly wait for your next video.
I could listen to Sylvia for days. She visited a school I was working at years ago and she was an amazing story teller. Her kid and knitting books are fabulous. I'll be ordering this new one too! Thank you for this. Such a treat.
Just had a look, the film isn't available to me here in Scotland, sadly. Will have a look for her books though. I knew a little about Cowichan knitting, but it was good to hear it from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Thankyou.
The Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver has a Cowichan sweater which they describe as weaving and they have nothing about knitting in their collection. Each time I visit I look to see if they have correct this.
Thank you so much. I am enjoying these interviews. Each story is so great and so different. You never miss feeding my brain. Keep well, keep on. Love ya.
What an awesome interview! Thank you for bringing Sylvia Olsen into our lives. I have heard of her before and some of of her books but that is about it. Tried to find the wool she has helped develop with Custom Woolen Mills but not sure where to find that on their website. Once again thank you for this series of Canadian interviews.
Absolutely fantastic! Sylvia is my new hero! Thank you for this interview. I love that she doesnt take credit for Cowichan Knitting, she talks about racism openly, checks and questions herself and her role as a white woman. We need more people like this in Canada to make long lasting changes! Unfortunately her older books are unavailable, I even checked Amazon! On another note, fo you two sell yarn? Have a shop? Have I missed the link? Great vlog, thanks!
This was such a wonderful interview - what an interesting life she has led so far. Guys, you are nailing it with all your interviews - thank you so much :-)
