No bug-eyed monsters, no brains in jars.
That worked out well then.
Joe Davis when you say Brains in Jars I assume your talking about the Cyber Controller in Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel
@Ian Turner That or the brains with the stalk eyes from part 2 of the Keys of Marinus.
I think he is talking about the Doctor Mysterio episode.
"No bug eyed monsters!"
Well that went well(!) ;'P
Hey, don't argue, it ended up saving the show.
I'm not arguing, hence my ";'P" :L
***** Just teasing, no offence meant. XD
Brain in glass was in The Keys of Marinus and more recently The Return of Doctor Mysterio too, so there's that out the window also lol
"No tin men!"
Well, too bad!
First proper clip of the mark gatiss film. Have I said I'm looking forward to this?
I love Brian Cox in this role his energy is so infectious.
I didn't know that Sydney Newman was a Canadian until I read up more on him. Glad to see Brian Cox portraying him. Can't wait to watch this.
LOL When she tells him about "The Mutants" later on...I expect a mega-facepalm from Syd.
Later, they made a bug-eyed monster in the Infinte Quest.
Oh the irony. :p
😁
lol no brains in jars...Brain of Morbius anyone? :P
Even better, The Keys Of Marinus 😂
lady cassandra
Good thing the show never had ray guns or big eyes monsters. Wait...
Or emotionless robotic 'tin men'.
Or brains in a jar
Kyle Netherwood ahem *the return of doctor mysterio*
😁
Brains in glass jars...lovely reference to 'The Keys of Marinus'. :)
or "End of the World" last human
"Tin robots." Cybermen.
I was more thinking the Brain of Morbius... but that too!
And of course "Donovan's Brain" and "The Brain of Col. Branham" (original Outer Limits) -- i mean yuh just gotta love a benign, mild-mannered person who once their brain is put in a class jar and hooked up to the city electrical grid doesn't go for take-ing over the stock exchange or place-ing off-track bets on horses but tries to control the world.
I mean it just doesn't get any better than that (except of course for tin robots -- unless their a pet robot dog.
New addition to the Brain in Jars crew, The Return of Doctor Mysterio :)
After watching documentaries about Doctor Who during the 1960s era, I was so thrilled to watch this. I have been watching it again and again and I still enjoy it. "I wish I knew what bloody dimension I was in". Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the longest-running science fiction series used to be before it was overtaken by Doctor Who?
"tin robots"-cybermen
"mutations and death rays"-the Daleks
clearly they broke some rules they set in the beginning.
Or Mutations as Dalek Sec in... Human-ush form?
***** 'Keys of Marinus' is what it's referring to. More irony!
"Brains in glass jars" - The Keys of Marinus
"No Tin Robots"
*ahem
LOVING the music! Am going to have to keep reminding myself that it's a true story though, because despite being a fan of Classic Who I keep forgetting that! The picture quality is too good ;-)
You're going to make me wait two days, how very dare you...
"No tin robots or Bug-eyed monsters..."
Funny how things turn out, isn't it?
"No bug-eyed monsters! No tin robots! No mutations or death days! No brains in glass jars"! - Sydney Newman
They ended up with Daleks, Cybermen, and the episodes "The Keys of Marinus" ans "The Brain Of Morbius".
At least all the bug-eyed monsters, tin robots, mutations, death rays and brains in glass jars on Doctor Who has something extra...
Style!
Best television program I've watched in a long time. Is it ok to admit there was the odd tear or three by the end?
The DWM Archives: The Movie. There's so much drama behind the scenes of Who that I'd love to see them do this for each Dr/Era.
It was the same with Roddenberry and Star Trek -- have-ing to lie and say it was really just "Wagon Train to the Stars". The only reason the networks trusted Serling with Twilight Zone was that he'd produced and written so much stuff for TV and knew how to keep the budgets under control -- an almost impossibility for CYFI.
Holy frick, William Russell is the guard outside television centre.
Brian Cox! I'm lovin' it already!
Tin Robots? Bug Eyed Monsters? Oooh Gatiss, if this docudrama is rife with injokes I shall be most delighted
Am i the only one looking more forward to this then the day of the doctor? *hides* :P
definitely this. I wonder if David Bradley *ever* thought playing "Mr. Filch" (a plum role in itself -- and who says you can't work with animals? I think he and "Mrs. Norris" (.?cats-name?.) were made for each other) -- that he'd get the role of a (fan) life-time. ?
And i know we're ALL waiting for that final line: "I may return one day...".
-r.
ALSO a thought just occurred to me (and i know this borders on fan-blasephemy .?sp?.) but the lost Hartnell episodes could be re-made with Dav...
no. better not say ;)
...(steps into clothes closet tardis -- the landlord still can't figure out how i get so much stuff into it) ... and sets co-oords for beeb, 1960's).
Than*
Finn: my grandfather will be perfect for the role good’ol Hartnell
Sydney Newman's ghost, watching the Slitheen fart on the Doctor: Dammit guys, you had _one_ job!
Looks good, not too keen on the music, but I see what they're going for and I'll probably enjoy it during the actual special.
In Australia this is one after the anniversary special airs at 7:30 on Sunday. I think it starts around 8:50.
Great and emotional, breaks your heart
Looking forward to seeing this even more than The Day of The Doctor.
And now that I've seen it.... That final scene. The feels that moved a 44 year old Whovian's heart. Many manly tears were shed.
Wow. I wasn't really excited for this until this clip (the trailer was pretty persuasive as well). Can't wait to see this now!
That clip should have endend with David Tennant coming into shot behind Verity and going "hWhat?"
I LOVE the actor who plays as Syd, sounds A LOT like him.
I'm more excited for this than the actual fiftieth anniversary, not that I'm not excited for that too
I sort of wish they were depicting David Whitaker, as well; he came in with Lambert after Newman approached her, and he became the programme's first story editor, meaning he, in consultation with Lambert and, less often, Newman, would attract writers and either assign stories to be written by those writers or choose which submissions from writers looked most scriptworthy.
He also added continuity bits between stories and re-wrote a number of them, meaning he wound up shaping the creative vision of "Who" a bit more than Verity Lambert... especially once he was invited back to do a number of stories for the Troughton era.
If it weren't for Whitaker, Terry Nation would never have written for "Doctor Who"; think on that, and shudder.
It's *always* a group effort (that's why you often see a director working with the same people over and over again (eg) Woody Allen, Spike Lee). And when they're working together and the ego's are parked at the door -- magic really can happen.
I know that. But he's not even being depicted in the docu. :-(
Oh, I know. It's just that nobody outside the really-dedicated historians know who Whitaker is, and now they STILL don't know... yet they know who Mervyn Pinfield is, now. The mind boggles.
Cool! This is going to be awesome! Can't wait!
So excited for this! My brain is nothing but Who right now!
Always wanted to see this story told on screen :D
YES! This is gonna be fantastic
I saw it last night and it was brilliant and at the end it was very sad and I had a few tears too 5 stars brilliantly British
No tin robots or death rays? They broke the mold then when the Daleks and K-9 came into the picture.
You know.....I cried the WHOLE way through.....because it was just.......FANTASTIC!! (and beautiful)....when it came to the very end (SPOILERS) when Matt Smith was looking at 'Willliam Hartnell' aka David Bradley... and may I say he did and AMAZING performance, but yeah those last few scenes with Matt.....I just LOST IT......My parents couldn't hear the t.v I cried sooooo hard!!!!
so can not wait for it they really look like them
"No bug-eyed monsters!"
I wonder what they would have thought of the Slitheen...
Yeah, but their *clearly* buggy bug-eyed eyes are so nicely flashy (just like the cute baby "squid" at the beginning of "Men In Black"
What about the fly-people from Planet of the Dead?
It looks so good.
No bug-eyed monsters, hahaha!
Yeah thats the thing this series would be made of :D
Yeah, but the ones on Doctor Who did more than just drool, slime people to death and then simply die at the end when some one realised they were allergic to aspirin. I mean you have to at least reverse the neutron flow.
I once interviewed Sydney Newman. He wasn't using a cigerette holder.
What was he like?
BlueHooloovoo
Well, he was from Toronto, so he was like a midwesterner. He talked like a truck driver. Once he called me an ignorant fellow. I usually don't trust people who tell how good they are, but with his body of work he could back it up. He created The Avengers as well as Doctor Who. I think he was a genius. He was a nice man..
Karl Shook That is really cool. I'm curious. what was the interview for?
It turned out to be for Starlog magazine.
i can't wait !!!
“Brains in glass jars” Well how the turns have tabled
Gave me tingles. Cant. Wait.
Sydney Newman was Canadian. Brian Cox was not doing a Canadian accent.
when he said BUG EYED MONSTERS you know he was thinking of kamen rider
I think I'll watch it now I've seen this clip.
"I don't want you to be my assistant kid. I want you to produce it."
-- beauty. beauty squared.
(can't wait dammit)
“No brains in a glass jar”...The Keys of Marinus, 5th serial of Dr. Who
Uncle Gary!
'Brains in a glass jar' thanks Morbius
YEAH VERITY!!! Can't wait to see it!!! SO EXCITED!!!
"No tin robots or bug eyed monsters."
Terry Nation gives ys bug eyed monsters inside tin robots.
Only two days to go.
Whoever composed and arranged the music for this should replace Murray Gold or work with him because this is just too good.
A sensational docudrama.
i cant wait it looks so cool!
Can't wait to see this and the actress playing verity is pretty hot I think
Looks good but the music makes it feel like a family film from the late '90s...
Err.. that's the point? It's supposed to be like the 60's.
Looking forward to this.
How much would it take to get The BBC and Netflix to put this in with season 7?
'No bug-eyed monsters' We give you the Daleks
'No brains in glass jars' We give you the Morphoton Brains
'No death rays' Well, where do I start?
This is really going to be special, isn't it?
Sound like nice show :)
Brian Cox!!
Australia get this on Sunday night, after the second screening of the 50th
Funny those things he criticize about actually made it into the show.
No bug eyed monsters or tin men, HA
Or brains in a jar. Though we had to wait til Face of Boe for that
***** Ahh nice, I'm not that familiar with the classic series
I just watched this online its amazing!!!
Doctor Who? it will never work they said. it will be a flop they said. Who's laughing now?
Who knows? Who..knows.
That women is in the Walking Dead!
How long is this going to be? :D! I want to watch it regardless of length but it is fun to watch as much as how Doctor Who is born.
90 minutes! :D
'no brains in glass jars!'
well then...
So touching❤
BEMs - BEMs - BEMs!! Lot and lots of BEMs! And a tin dog. We got our wish.
I took them less than a year to break that promise.
I've heard the Daleks described as bug-eyed monsters before. How can people be so ignorant? Daleks look nothing like that.
That's only on the outside
5 more days
#SaveTheDay #DoctorWho
Good thing that Variety decided on the Daleks or the show would not have gone on as long as it has.
Yeah... much as I love the show, I also feel they should've kept with that philosophy.
Yeah, too "Bad" they do have those . . .
Were the Daleks made to be both tin robots and BEMs just to piss him off?
No brains in jars
40 ish I years in the future Cassandra is a villain
CANT WAIT
when is this on/
Thursday in the UK - not too sure about anywhere else.
***** Thank goodness for no school on friday eh? I love teacher training day. :D
nice
Jessica is stunningly beautiful. My goodness...
I hate that I live in America and can't get BBC2!
You can see it the day after on BBCA.
yes, but, but, that is a whole day later, I will have to sit and listen to my Brit friends talk about it
Jonathan Wessner
Avoid your Brit friends for 24 hours and watch it fresh and free from pre-conceptions.
anybody know when this is on in the uk ?
this Thursday at 9pm on bbc 2
excellent. thankyou
*daleks appear*
_OOPS_
no tin robots or BEMs
woops
Haven't seen this yet, but I'm guessing that the woman is Verity Lambert? One of the most influential women in TV IMHO.
Correct and it is 100% worth watching when your able to.
Yet another trailer from the BBC where they don't bother to tell you when it's on.
thursday 9pm
It's not a trailer, it's a clip.
David, I take it you didn't bother looking at the description
Scott Gerrard
There's nothing in the description about when it's on
David Glover There is a link to the program page on the BBC website which tells you about viewing times for the show...
Lol. he's so ridiculous.
cool
