Your farm and high tunnel plants are growing beautifully! All the love and hard work you put into the prep will pay you back tenfold! Opalka paste tomatoes are delicious! But if you see the plant getting wimpy limpy curling leaves, don't worry as that is the nature of that variety. Looking forward to next weeks tour!

I use a lot of water bottles (previous half gallon milk jugs) to mitigate the up and down temperature swings in the greenhouse (no heater needed). The water acts as a thermal battery. Hope this helps

I’ve done that before when I had a passive solar greenhouse and painted them dark green. I’d forgotten about that trick! Thanks for the reminder!

I watch the Busy Gardener and he has an orchard in California. He says if your fruit trees don't release their leaves, than pull them off yourself or the tree won't know to go to sleep. If that side of the tree had more leaves left then maybe it is just a little behind. I wouldn't cut any limbs or less the limb is truly dead.

Everything looks great! I have been growing Stupice for years, I love it. I’m also growing 4 different varieties from Wild Boar Farms that I haven’t grown before, including the Pink Berkeley Tie Dye. You do such a great job with your gardens, I admire you for that.
Man, I feel you about the cooch grass! It took over my raspberry beds big time. It reduced me to using glyphosate, which I really hate to do. It feels like such a failure. I got new raspberry plants and moved them to a different area. I did use cardboard and wood chips in my orchard, which has helped a lot, but they’re not very deep, I need to add more. The weeds came up through the wood chips quite a bit. We will soldier on! This stuff is serious!
The cherry trees probably were damaged by the early freeze. That happened to us(in SW Idaho) a couple of years ago. It was fall weather and then, one night, it dropped down to -9F. The trees did not have time to drop their leaves. A lot of trees were killed that year. I would say, don’t prune the branches off, just give it time. It may not leaf out all the way this year, but it may recover for next year. I am dealing with a peach tree that has not leafed out at all this year. We moved it too late in the fall and it must be in shock. I hope it recovers, I am praying for it. We are so invested in our plants, aren’t we?

Your tomatoes look amazing! I am also growing Pink Berkley Tie Dye, Sun Gold and Barry's Crazy cherry. I bought them from Serina at Red Roof Farms. I bought her tomatoes and peppers last year and they were great!
Good luck getting rid of your quack grass! I hope you are successful. Such a terrible weed. Happy gardening!

I grew stupice tomato last year for the second time. I'm growing it again this year. I was told it was pronounced stu peach ka. I liked it. I grow alot of different ones. This year I'm growing more determinant tomatoes. I had really good luck last year with Manitoba. So I'm growing 20 of those. Your high tunnel looks great!

I think you’re right about the pronunciation. This is year two for me with them and I’m pretty sure they are a permanent fixture in my greenhouse.

Hear ya about the quack grass!!!! I am building some raised bed strawberry beds and I am going to use the mini bulk bags from my layer diet in the bottom - it is made the same as landscape fabric. Will see how it works. Garden looks good - mine just got worked and so hoping to get everything in this week. Good job!

Looking good 😀 excited to see everything coming together for the season. Regarding the cherries, I'm in 3a in Manitoba and noticed the same thing on 1 out of 4 of my cherry trees this spring and some of our maples are late to leaf as well. So strange, I wish I knew what caused it. We had the same thing with the leaves freezing still on the branches too. My cherry is getting its leaves now though, hopefully yours does too.

Enjoy the videos. We had a hard frost here in Fargo and I covered everything. But my tomatoes touched the covers and still got frost bite. Lost about 6-9 inches off the top of my tomato plants. Lost a lot of my marigolds. That I isn’t get covered. Jealous of the high tower. I wish I had one. Your garden is looking great.

Do you save seeds from your tomato plants? Or other plants? If so, how do you maintain true varieties and prevent cross pollination

So wonderful everything!! Gorgeous and incredible amount of work. Have been looking forward to this update. Also I have a terrible time with that darn grass to. Recently I saw on a channel that they used 30% vinegar to kill it. And weeds. I have a few terrible areas I am going to try it. It has to be sprayed carefully to not kill good things. I just saw it and am getting an order ready. Just thought I would share. Not verified yet but I am going to try. And are the root balls on the tree flush with the ground. And not covered. The root balls need to breath. I lost new tree plantings the hard way until a good nursery told me that. So sometimes even bought from a nursery the base is covered in the pot with mulch and when you plant you need to brush down the top of the dirt/mulch until you find where the root ball starts. And plant it like that. It is a bit confusing but if you think of trees you see just from nature there are bumpy roots at the base still above the ground. Hugs and can't wait for next update.

I am having the same leafing out issues on my maples and raspberries, and I am blaming it on that late hard frosts we got a few weeks ago. You will have to prune out the affected branches, the healthy branches will take over eventually. It's so sad isn't It?

Love unique tomato varieties! I saw Stupice and Opalka ... was there another one? And where do you get the seeds?
As for the cherry tree - I don’t know what’s wrong or if it will recover but I have visions of our peach tree doing this then dying. Very sad. I think part of it is varieties aren’t as hearty as they were for our ancestors. I hope it pulls through! Year 7-8 for our apple trees and finally set fruit!

No, but that’s a good thought. Apparently I’m not the only one out here who had that happen and now my crab apple isn’t flowering like it should be. I think it was a weird weather year and messed them up somehow.

You are the 6-7th UA-camrs that have lost their beehives. They all had plenty of food and no mites either. Makes ya kind of wonder if there was something in the air during this last winter or another insect that is killing them.
