- I travel to the North West of Scotland with my camper van, a Nikon Z7 II, 24-120mm lens and a 100-400mm lens. This was my first landscape photography shoot with the Nikon Z7 II and I got some lovely conditions, but how did the camera handle the high contrast shooting situation? Let me remind you, Tom, that your adventures and photos are for you. For your escape, it really doesn't matter what we think. It is for us to enjoy your adventures because some of us don't get to go on them. Or maybe we get inspiration from your adventures. What ever the case might be from our end it doesn't matter. As long as you are creating for you! WE LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AND PHOTOS!
Thanks, Ray. That's a really thoughtful comment.
Absolutely. 👍
Well, yes and no! Tom is of course free to do what he wants, but we don't have to watch if it's not interesting to us! Luckily there is a conjunction of interests which means that I check every Wednesday for a new video that shows Tom doing his thing.
A great way to start off a sentence is with the phrase, “let me remind you”. It always comes off warm and inviting, not aggressive whatsoever.
Well said
Nikon colours are unbeatable.
"it's getting late, I haven't had any tea, and I have no idea where I should sleep tonight". Such a drama queen 😄 great images Thomas!
I love that you finally have a Nikon, even if for no other reason than I have always loved Nikon and the seem to get so much hate for no real reason, lol. Cheers!
My favorite photography blogger shooting with my camera! A dream video came true. Can't wait to watch!
Haha, let's hope the images are up to standard 👍
Mate, I cannot even fathom how you manage to film yourself so well while making photographs. I know enough about both to understand the effort this requires, and you absolutely deliver!
Verily
[Edit: watch out for scam comments posing as me. You have NOT won a prize & I don't use Telegram😡] For the past couple of videos, I have been absent from the comments due to a busy schedule and needing to have a break from the machine. I'm out at the moment, but will be in the comments this evening, so thanks to everyone for all your weird and wonderful feedback 🙂
On another note, if you're interested in a book or one of my new print packs, you can find them here: thomasheaton.co.uk/shop/
Fantastic video and beautiful location. Thank you for sharing with us. I had looked to see if you had a Patreon. I've already bought your 2022 Calendar last year (looking forward to the 2023 Calendar soon!) and have bought your book too. I was hoping that there might be a way to support your work through other means. Thank you again for your hard work and weekly inspiration!
I've been on and off with the idea of Patreon. I appreciate your support, and I am certainly considering it, I just need to figure out what I can offer patrons.
Beware the scammers are still at it with the fake messages.
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Patrons = print packs. Simple.
That single rowing boat at 16:45 is superb.
I've had my Z 7ii for 18 months now. I think it is a really great camera for landscape photography. Love it.
Am I the only one who enjoys the longer content? Also, sometimes the obvious shots like the boat are the best. I love that image.
It's good to know that you enjoy the longer content. I enjoy making it and trying to tell more of a story.
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto I could watch your content all day. It's inspired me to change how I see landscape photography. Keep it up! Cheers from the U.S!
Boatography, Nikon and perfect sleep over. Belting Tom 😍👍
Ignoring the naked at the end. MY EYES 👀
That sunset is BEAUTIFUL!!
I can virtually feel the midges. Such beautiful photography and peaceful video, thank you. And the midges...
Beautiful conditions and fantastic images. Another adventure in the books.
Lots of perseverance and fantastic images, even more shooting with a Nikon. Congratulations.
19:47 That's exactly what I do. I picked up my first camera to learn more about photography without any thought of what to shoot beforehand. Since I loved photographing my friends candid style with my phone while at school, I then got to learn about street photography. But in the end, it's the curiosity of trying any kind of shoot and photographing any kind of subjects which caught my attention.
Now I always have my camera in my sling bag and ready to shoot whenever I want given the opportunity, subjects, and mood.
Hey Tom, that was magical. Love to see Thomas exploring, getting exited like a child, and catching absolutely stunning sceneries. Thomas was taken back in his early days and so was I. Very relaxing. Cheers, Max
loved this video Thomas. Thanks for the enthusiasm and super effort to drive so many hours and still have the energy to deliver such great content.
I really liked this episode. Things dont always need to be prepared. I like the adventures you bring to us. Keep up the good work! 👍
Spectacular and inspiring!!! Thanks Tom
I love whenever you go to Scotland! Thanks for the videos mate, as always.
Love the first boat image. Love them all.
Really love the mood of that sunset boat image! Fantastic!
Touch to focus is a must-have in my opinion. Speeds up focus stacking soooo much. Great video, Tom!
Stunning images and a great video. Love these videos out in the field. Keep up the good work.
What a beautiful view from the van!! 🤩❤️
Loved that last shot the most, very serene
Just lovely! the tone of this channel always makes me happy and content, and I always find myself crossing my fingers and hoping you get a beautiful shot when I see your struggling through a day - despite having fun doing so- and when you end up with a nice photo I find myself sharing your joy for the day and the struggles you have gone through. Cheers from Japan, Thomas
Thank you for the amazing photos!
Another great video Tom! The shots of the afterglow and boats are stunning! Wonderful shadow detail and integrity in that Z7II!
Killer shots mate. That Z7 is a beast!
Such a nostalgic location for me - happy childhood memories on and around the Summer Isles. Those awesome sunsets are not a one-off. And no, I too have never made it up Stac Pollaidh. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful photos Thomas, enjoyable video as always 👍
Nothing more satisfying than nabbing a great shot when you think nothing is gonna come out of the day. Pure Joy
What a peaceful scene! Absolutely amazing colours. Loved this video.
Always pure artistry, sincerity and technical excellence. Thomas Heaton is the real thing!
That's an incredible spot with the boats, wow
Thanks for sharing a thoroughly enjoyable video adventure. What a beautiful location. I love the sunset boat images you captured. What glorious light. Your new Z7 is proving to be a real gem.
Amazing video as always, and amazing pics!! Thanks for this great content Thomas!
Awesome vlog and photos! Your adventures always make me look forward to my next adventure. Thanks for sharing. 😊
One of your best images! Sometimes it's an opportunity to discover things you haven't thought about!
Great to see these places again, love it there! Top photos as always too. The sunset boats was a gorgeous scene 👌
One off your best videos for a bit, that was simply awesome love Scotland so much hope your popping to see Murray, beautiful shots at the end , thankyou for sharing
Lovely work, Tom - as always. What a spot!
As always phenomenal!
Wow, fell in love with your boat shots!!
A beautiful peaceful sunset with gorgeous images to follow 👏🏻
Tried and true take-away. Thanks for another wonderful video.
You've defined determination and optimism! Beautiful photos
The gulf and boats was gold mine, unbelievble scenery. 👍
The view of the harbor from the van had me screaming for a pano. Beautiful light and images plus your positive outlook sold this video post.
Stunning sunset images. Very envious! Enjoy!
Hi Tom, I enjoyed this vlog and those serene shots are beautiful. I love your channel and I have enjoyed watching it (and learning from you) over the years whether you were taking us along on a distant photography adventure or driving to beautiful places close to you home. Your channel is so good because of you. Thank you for the years of wonderful content!🙂
Last image was simply exquisite! The compression and light just amazing 😍. Ending the vlog with sunset light through van window is absolute serene. Most importantly as I love landscapes photography myself is not always about capturing incredible light but enjoying the journey to the location.
What a beautiful video the boats are addictive I capture many over the summer months in Lytham chasing the sun is wonderful
Once again very enjoyable. So yes chase the light!
Thank you for your videos. Amazing work.
Amazing photos and an amazing video that is really inspiring for all who love landscape photography!
Isn't that pure bliss to be a part of such a beautiful evening and just slow down, be aware of the moment? Enjoying your video's as always and your inspiring photographs.
I have the Z5 moved up from a D5600 and it's incredible. The touch shot touch shot just makes things so much easier
Such a relatable episode Pal !! Chasing the light without a plan can be the best at times for sure !! Damn those midges eh!!
Stunning shots to boot
I’ll have to show you some park up spots here too
Thanks Tom, I love your videos and stunning photos. You always cheer me up. My go-to channel for a nice ‘pick-me-up’. Your photography lifestyle is on my bucket-list.
Wow! what a park up, that view was stunning ! Loved the video and all the images. The same thing has happend to me and as you quite rightly said dont give up or put to much pressure on your self. Can’t waite for your next weeks adventure. Keep up the great work .
I feel like your vids have taken on a more introspective dynamic and I’m 100% here for it. Glad you shared the adventure my friend. Cheers!
Really wonderful images, great message, and brilliant park-up. I'm not sure what I was expecting with the Z9, but I was impressed. Once again, I'm inspired. Cheers!
Gorgeous pink and blues in the calm water around the third boat. So glad you went for the tighter crop too
Really really enjoyed that, simple fun and incredible location
Exposure delay is far better than 2 sec timer for landscape and it stays put if you turn the camera off 😀
Great video! I don’t often comment but the enjoyment gotten from a great evening of photography was felt through my screen.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Fantastic video Thomas, really enjoyed it, loved the boat images especially the square crop of the single boat, thanks for sharing.
Stunning shots. I love the boats. So glad you didn’t have a plan and just went with what the light lead you to.
Another great watch with STUNNING images.
Lovely images Thomas, and a very entertaining video. Sound advice about not giving too. Thank you 👍
you absolutely nailed it with the boats!!! stunning!
Stunning images too Thomas.
Another great vlog Tom, what a beautiful spot and a great place to wake up to! Love the colours and the silhouetted boats. Hope your doing well
Am fairly new to your channel but absolutely love everything about your content! The highs and lows are interesting, fun and super educational. Am enjoying working my way backwards through all your videos. Cheers from the US.
Very nice images, definitely love the singular boat, simplistic and perfect.
Glad you got on well with the Nikon Thomas , you produced some great images on your first outing with it. That view was something else . Atb Joe.👍
Please don't think that we don't get value from a video like this, this was a video of perseverance, you kept going even when you could have quit and look at the wicked shots you got! I love that you are shooting Nikon now and using the same lens (24-120) as I am most of the time, this makes me very happy. :D
Thanks, Jason. Glad you enjoyed the video. The Nikon is just a loan, so I'm not fully committed yet, but I am enjoying it 👍
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto I hope you stick with it, it’s nice to see people I admire using the gear I am, Nikon takes too much flak. I tried to convince Gavin to get a Z9 but he got an A1 (he almost got the Z9 though).
Full disclosure: I have a Sony.
Tamron just announced a 50-400 and I'm considering selling my Sigma 14-24, Sony 24-105 and Sigma 100-400 for a 16-35 and the 50-400. Go from 3 lenses down to 2 and only lose 15mm.
I think the best thing about Sony is all the lenses you can get.
Beautiful images. As Napoleon said: "March to the sound of the guns!"
It came together in the end Thomas, often the way in Scotland. Loved the 2nd boat image.
Beautiful shot with the boat Tom! Reminds me of Newfoundland. Plenty of scenes like that. Great video Tom!
You’ve just described what I absolutely love….driving into the unknown and spotting compositions, stopping, chasing the light, the sunrise and sunset, always on the move, each image unique. Freedom to go where you please. Have fun!
That is some serious boat bangers you got there, Heaton, you are a photo-madlad!
Tommmm..... TOM!! Goooo toward the light, Tom. Gooooo toward the light. :) :) Well, you listened to the voice in your head, Thomas, and you not only got some beautiful images but you also got a peaceful night of sleep. Except it was hot in the van until after midnight when it started to cool off enough for you to get some good sleep. Been there, done that and I know how it works. It has been 90F to 100F here for the last month and another month to go. Take care, Thomas, and stay hydrated.
For me, one of your best videos in a long time. All your videos are great, but I really liked this one. Reminded me of your earlier videos.
Another great video Tom! I love your photos, but I love your journeys and your searches at least as much! Your honest commentary about the struggles of the search for images has always inspired me, and I love seeing how you are embracing the pure joy of the wandering these days. My own job doesn't let me wander and hunt for beautiful scenery the way yours does, so I live vicariously through you with each video!
Keep up the great work! I am along for the ride as long as you continue your adventures!
Thanks, Dean. I always think the hunt is as important as the images. It wouldn't be the same if I started my video by the boat, ready to shoot. It's about the entire process 👍
I'll
as always .... great video Thomas !!!
Lovely boatagraphs. The colours are amazing.
Fantastic video as ever following you on most platforms now. I am relatively new to this world of photography, only picking up my first camera the D5600 last Oct then earlier this year upgraded to the Z7, absolutely love it. Love your enthusiasm for photography, even when the odds look stacked against you, it's the drive and passion we all love. I for one have days of scratching my head, where to go, what to shoot etc.....it really is about just going with the flow and taking any pressure of yourself. Looking forward to the next chapter and hopefully no ticks were found.
Love the shot matt, thank you for this video
I really like how careful you are about intersecting lines. For example the antennae on the bigger boat could easily have got lost in the land near the horizon but you didn't let it. Thanks as always for the time and effort you put in to provide us with inspiration and entertainment.
Excellent video and thanks. The images looked so detailed well done.
That awesome shot looking out the window of the camper was so special to me. That's why I've had my VW camper for 20 years now and plan to drive it for at least another 10.
Absolutely stunning sunset Thomas 👍
Great video Tom, lovely shots as well, must admit with the weather we have in GB it always pays to be flexible with plans!!!
You truly look like you're enjoying yourself! I love the photos. If I could keep sunsets and silhouettes in front of me the rest of my life, I'd be happy. And yes, embrace the chaos! More please.
Gorgeous!
Absolutely stellar images from beautiful locations!!
