Lovely guide! My method is very similar to yours, I usually start by shuffling the cards and talking to them as if they were my friends, like "hello guys, how are you today?" and sometimes I do "fake" spreads just to look at them and get into the mood. After I do my readings, I also thank the cards and say good bye, see you later... I like your approach, it feels very soothing and opens the space for intuition. I try that and when I feel it's not the right time, I usually leave it for another moment.

im beginning to think this woman is very good at teaching tarot. 2 videos of hers and shes clarified or confirmed so many things for me. ive picked up some important new things from her as well. Her videos have also further solidified my faith in my own way of reading tarot. Katie Flowers youve got to do card definitions and paired meanings! Youve given us a great foundation! itll pretty much be complete with those additions! Youre a GREAT teacher! Take pride in your ability!
I love the way you compared the initial handling and shuffling of the deck to the sort of introductions and small talk at the beginning of a conversation. I’m going to think of that final shuffle after the reading (which is a new idea for me!) as the good bye pleasantries now - possibly a good bye hug, if the deck and I are already friends. Sometimes I do check the book and I read for myself and others I use my intuition and I write it down. then I would put the book away when I have filled it. I would then read it in a mini ritual of a morning. And thank you you for this video.

Thank you Katey! I love listening to your videos and seeing and hearing all of the symbology you see so much quicker than myself. I appreciate your sharing your spreads and reads. You inspire me to go forth and work my own magic. When I read for myself or for others, I first light a couple of white candles if I've got them.. and any candle if I don't.. asking for the presence of angels, guides, and beings of the highest vibration with good intentions only to help facilitate my protection and the protection of all those I am reading for and or about. I clear a space and cleanse it with palo santo. Usually my cards will call to me while I'm doing other things.. and I will note which ones are calling the strongest. Sometimes I don't feel the energy to use them so I wait until I feel I can expend. I find reading very draining. Does anyone else get drained when doing readings for others? It isn't so bad I'd stop doing it. It's just almost time for a nap or food and hydration immediately after. I pick the deck or decks that feel the strongest draw to and i take them out.. n touch each one .. saying hello, hello, to each card.. imbuing my energy into them I feel. I close my eyes and take a deep breath or three and ground myself. If I'm asking a question for myself I form it and ask it in my head.. I repeat it over n over in my head to keep the topic clear as I shuffle. If I am reading for another, i picture them in my mind's eye.. even if they're right in front of me.. asking their question. I make sure and say who the reading is for. I shuffle until the time feels to stop. I cut the deck to the left and I pull from the right. I sometimes just take the cards that pop out as an answer. I pretty much follow that unless I get a handful or half the deck goes flying. I HAVE in past tried to read all that haha. Oof! Sometimes I choose a spread first.. I think I should stick with a spread. Because when I don't.. I get overzealous and try to do fancy card reading by using more than a couple of decks and I get tired halfway through. Kind of like the pick a pile readings I see Gem Goddess do etc. I try to decide if I'll worry about the ones that came up upside down and think.. I BETTER! Didn't they fall out upside down to provide the exact opposite as my answer? How can I not read them that way? But I try to choose to not read them reversed.. then I read the reverse or think the reversed meaning.. it's quite confusing that part. Everyone keeps talking about the cards in position to one another.. I'm not quite sure about that part. If I am confused.. I ask for a clarification card and place it over the first card. I have tried writing the meanings down and the messages and things i get from the cards at first glance but usually I don't have a lot of time to indulge myself. I think that's a shame. I am quite excited about your interview the deck spread. I have so many cards to do that with. Also, just putting them into the piles. I think I skipped a few valuable steps in my excitement. Also, I read for what I can get off of the cards for me or for friends and family.. and then i check the book afterward to see if I have a similar message or went overboard in my own interpretations. I like the validation of the book afterward.. and of course when I'm getting to know the author's intentions for the deck and book. I love this community and I love listening to you Katey. You're so gifted and knowledgeable. It feels like very specialized instruction from you.
Forgot to say that I thank the cards and I thank the angels, guides and spirit for their assistance and for their clarity. Then I blow out the candle. Sometimes I shuffle the decks or put them back upright. (not usually however)
sheesh.. if i'm reading for someone else who isn't with me in the room.. i take photos of the whole spread and each individual card and explain to them that any thoughts, messages, or images that come to them from the images are meant to be part of their reading and are very valid.

I mostly read for myself, and though I do give my spread and card positions out loud, I tend to “read” the cards “in my head” or silently to myself. I also like to grab several books and read up on other interpretations when I have completed my initial read, then sum things up in my journal. For really important readings, I snap a photo with my phone and refer back to it through out the day or longer. I kind of stumble when reading for others sometimes, because it seems my synapses are firing and connecting much faster than I can communicate to them. I sometimes feel as though I am taking an oral exam and am very concerned about the words I use and messages I am relaying. Can you relate? Any advice?
