I practice readings using problem pages in magazines. 9 times out of 10 my advice will match what the agony aunt's advice is. It also helps to see how the nuances in the cards adapt to day to day problems in life.
Great tips, thanks so much! My problem with doing a reading is the opposite of yours where I have trouble coming up with and interpretation quickly enough and then finding enough to say.
I just started tarot and asked strangers online to send in questions so I could practice. I may have completely underestimated the time it took to give readings, lol. Despite it taking up a lot of time, I've had some really great readings so far.
A wrap up method I use and signal that I'm wrapping up the reading is to say "One more thing before we end/wrap up (say the one thing).' I never ask if they have any questions because that always leads to the client extending the reading past the given time.
That is a VERY good tip - I love that. I do sometimes feel like I'm opening a can of worms by asking if they have any more questions near the end of the reading, so I think I'll try your method next time.
I work a crisis phone line and some methods remind me of how we work with callers! I haven't done a reading for anyone else yet, I've only been studying for a month, but this is all incredibly helpful. Thank you teacher!
This was so helpful thank you, I’ve never read for anyone before, I use the tarot just for myself, but recently I’ve been wanting to share and maybe consider doing some readings for friends. But not sure where to start, this has been so helpful thank you, I feel I could actually read for people now.
I haven't done short readings. I've done either email readings or hour sessions. I'd love to be able to do this to work at events and stuff. I've been getting the nudge to do events, so this came at the perfect timing. Thanks for sharing what has worked for you, and how to sidestep some of the biggest pitfalls!
I love your information it's clear concise pretty much right to the point and in explaining and critiquing what you're saying you were also bring yourself into the picture and how you've helped yourself through struggles I really like that you seem to be very honest and very open I'm getting back into Terrell being a male and I've been struggling with which deck to read and the first deck that I pulled out when I have about 10 decks my first deck to pull out was the Illuminati gilded deck and so far has been really really helping me I think I should stay with us deck for a while till I get my feet wet again
I find it's very helpful to work with a deck you really connect with. The deck can feel so comfortable and natural that it's like connecting with a good friend. I feel that it allows you to be more open not only to the traditional meanings but also to your intuition which can help you get deeper, richer meanings from the cards. Best of luck!
Super Video. I love doing long deep dive readings but as Im starting to read at events, im looking at how I can still offer helpful content but in 10 Minutes so this has been very helpful. 1 spread - good idea. chill the chat - as my teacher said, "you don't have to over give" (paraphrasing her wisdom). Ill give that some rehearasal :-). Thanks!
I'm learning cartomacy and still memorizing the different meanings, I prefer this way over tarot cards, because it feels traditional, thanks for the video😀😎
Thank you for this! I have read tarot for friends/family/myself for a couple of years but this weekend I’m doing my first “professional” readings. I’ve been a little anxious about it but your videos have been validating for me! 🤍✨
Asking a clarity question; remind of time sensitivity, what is ONE QUESTION you have for the Tarot today? A question within a question, Let's choose one of those questions, what's the most important question to read on? You cannot adequately address these questions in 10 minutes and you shouldn't try. Exploration; yes, resolution, no. Aim for a satisfying short reading. Turn their heavy question into a lighter question. "Why did my marriage fall apart?" transform that into "what can I do to move forward right now?" leads to insightful and uplifting reading. Simplify or vague the question, how to be most helpful, notice yourself when rambling, practice on imaginary people, be simple and concise in interpretations, practice wrapping readings up, re-cap the reading, touch on key points, how can I make the most out of this 10 minutes? Focus it on them and what they can do right now to improve things.
It's just me ...I feel like giving them every detail guidance through card and it get extended for more than specific time limit.. thanks for sharing this tips .
I often feel this way too - I hate keeping readings short to be honest. The only time I feel that I must stick to a time limit is at a tarot party where I'm reading for lots of people in one night. Otherwise, I quite often go overtime with my readings.
Really interesting topic to cover. As usual, very helpful and I like the imaginary client idea! (My current practice mode is with my teenage kids and their friends, they just think I'm weird!) I'm going to make a list of all sorts of questions, including some of the ones you covered, to be able to practice remodelling the question. Cheers Kate! 👍
Hey Sophie! So glad you found this helpful. That's awesome you get to practice on your kids and their friends :) I wish my friends moms read Tarot when I was growing up!
What a great video! You provide useful and practical information. I especially liked the discussion on reframing questions. Great advice. You've made me a subscriber, Thanks!
I use one or three oracle cards to summarise or two oracle cards and a rune an it is amazing how these usually correspond with the reading and are great for summarising.
Thanks Kate, I’m going to do some New Years readings for friends, last year I got bogged down and had to cut people short. This will really help get to everyone and be fair. You look great, and happy New Year to you😉🍷
Thanks Kate, ..i have had chatty clients, I just mostly say, im sorry then stop or say goodbye ❤❤ thank you for sharing those great tips. N tarot spread with us... Ps, how are your cats ??? ❤❤😺😺😺😻
Hi Nora! Cats are doing great :) In fact, my girl kitty is trying to get my attention right now - the sun just came out and that always triggers her to whine at the door! Thanks for watching :)
I sometimes find that when I ask the client to clarify a question, ie, simplify the question, they sometimes find that the answer they're looking for from the cards is coming out of their mouth. Which is good for the client, but then they decide they don't need a reading as they have verbally resolved their issue. Not so good for business haha! :)
This was an amazing video. Thank you so much for this. It not only helped me with tarot readings for others but hot to approach some hard questions that I might do a reading for myself for (IE, break up, what can i learn from it? What is the best thing I can do now to improve my situation)
I use a storytelling tarot spread, whats your view on storytelling spreads? i dont have to worry about what each card is for representing i just tell a flowing story. It works for me. Not a professional but i get accurate readings lol. And it helps me with your method of using intuition aswell
@@DailyTarotGirl yeah draw 3 cards and that's it moving from left to right talk about each card what you see, feel and all that just like a normal reading blend the story into the next sence do the same there and then into the 3rd sence do the same there and then you find your self blending and use using card 1 to prove your point about card 3 and you still get a conclusion. 10min and accurate. Ive read 3 people as im new using this method and all have been accurate i even left a lady in tears lol. But no need to remember what card1 is for or card 2 just speak what you see and feel
Thank you for posting this video. When I practice short reading, I have noticed that I speak too fast and I sound really rushed.😁😁. If the outcome is negative card , how should I end the reading? Should I pull another card?
I have recently started learning how to read tarot...and i am having an extreme difficult time remembering what the cards mean...i will do a 3 card spread and forget everything...i know it says to use intuition but i seriously lose everything and have to look up every single card. Im usually great at studying and memorizing things but for the life of me i am struggling...any suggestions would be so hepful
Quick hint. Worked very well for me. a) write down 3 - 5 words per card. i.e. number = what... all 5's mean change, 2's mean choice, 9 Attainment, 10 Completion, etc, etc. then pick just pick 2 or 3 words per card that are easy to remember and will trigger the 'meaning'. i.e. for me, 6 Wands words are = Perseverance, Victory, Move Fwd, Fulfill Goals, Success, Political Victory. b) Write it down on a single sheet, then, c) play games. - Pull one card and try to remember the words - make a game of it. 5 secs a card. Don't remember it? Move on. If you struggle, just start with one-word per card, and build up. - Once you can do it easily with one card, pull two and try run the meaning from card 1 to card 2, - then 3rd very powerful game: take the 2 two cards and blend the meaning. - Final game: layout the cards in a 3 card spread, Pos 1 would be a Positive, Pos 2 a Negative and Pos 3 an Opportunity. Run through the deck and using the keywords build a story - at this stage it isn't a reading - just a learning game. 5 secs per card, then move on. This is brilliant for taking cards and flipping their meanings from positive to negative without reversing. i.e. 10 Swords in a positive position, is "the ability to recognise you've hit rock bottom and the only way is up and you have the strength to do that." etc, etc I don't use reverse cards because of how I learnt to remember the card meanings that are relevant to me. These 'games' are in many many of the tarot learning books and I found when I spend 15 - 30 mins at one sitting, playing with the cards, my knowledge of the cards without thinking about them too much grew in leaps and bounds. Once you have this down, then remembering the card meanings are really much easier and when you 'read' your spread you can focus more on the interpretation instead of racking your brains to remember or reaching for a book. I'll add that because you will move to using different decks, I found that if I tried to 'memorise' the meaning based on the content/pictures of the card, then using a different deck I'd get confused. Above system removed that issue, I can now read from a deck of playing cards. Images help but are not the most important IMO. I'd add, I had about 6 Tarot Books with definitions, and sat and amalgamated all - avoided astrology since I've no knowledge nor interest and used what works for me. If it is the same meaning for you every time - then it is the right interpretation.
This is a very common issue that people run into when learning Tarot. I loved Lulu's suggestions, those are all great. When you're doing a reading, don't put pressure on yourself, just "play" with the reading, give yourself time to sit with each card and notice what symbols stand out to you - and what do those symbols mean to you? What are the characters on the card doing? What is the feel you get when you look at the card? I actually have a video on how to learn the cards (without using memorization) and you might find it helpful: daily-tarot-girl.com/learn-tarot/7-tarot-tips-learning-tarot-card-meanings/ Good luck, Christina!
Thank you so much for the suggestions...i will definately try this...i was just getting really frustrated because it seemed like everytime i think i can remember this, i pull some cards and everything just leaves my brain lol lol. But i do thank you for these suggestions i will def try it out. Thank you bunches!!!
I found the same do I bought 'The Psychic Tarot Deck' by John Holland & instead for example the 5 of cups the card actually says what it means. 💯% has helped me. Sending Positive Vibes your way.
My advice in this video is to use a general spread, like the one I share, but tailor the advice you give to the specific situation. I don't think you necessarily need to use different spreads for different topics.
I wanna start doing cards I think I would help out others as well the gifted I'm blessed with I can read people without cards can u tell me what that really means ....what should I do
I'm wondering about practicing with imaginary clients. Would it make us too used to just reading the cards by themselves without bringing in and connecting to the person we're reading for?
I used to practice on imaginary clients all the time when I was learning. When I graduated to reading for real people, I didn't struggle to connect with their energy.
I did this once when the readings had to be 5 min. I felt like it added a real sense of urgency to the reading and I didn't like it. Now I just keep a watch on and I turn it so the watch face is inside my wrist so I can look at it without being obvious.

How exactly would you recommend pretend readings? Like get an idea of a client in your head and a hypothetical question and pull cards based on that?
Can u tell us which spread to use in which situation?
Love situation
Financial situation
