Years back I subscribed briefly but my hardware couldn't handle it. I'd still get emails from them and after building a more capable machine I was tempted to re-subscribe but the cost was too high for me (spent all my software money on hardware 😉). When I saw the email saying it was all free it blew my mind. I always enjoyed your tutorials and I'm really looking forward to diving into them again.
I think them running subscriptions from a central cloud server caused alot of the problems...
What this program can do is not a single package, its environment is unique and allows you to assemble an extensive and complex scene into which you immerse yourself in reality, I am also shocked and delighted
I still have my physical copy of Vue 11 Complete. I used it for space art and game modding, but grew out of it when I got into photography and hiking to take pictures of real landscapes. I found this by chance, and now I want to dive back into it!
I used Vue for years and eventually I just couldn't afford it anymore. It had a special place in my heart and I was gutted when I had to leave it behind. I decided to learn Blender but it was never the same and I gave up on that too. This is wild.
I currently use both....the old VUE 9...NOW that it's free that made my day....Thank you E-ON software
Dont give up on Blender, they're different & not mutually exclusive, you can do so many different useful things with blender, its a great app to know, things you make in VUE can come over to blender as well, say you want to optimize or make modular components for game environments, or just about any other thing you can imagine. Blender is too useful not to know.

Believe me....I am as shocked as you are. Just built a new pc for animation which will handle this like a dream, went online to have a look at the Eon site and was stunned to see it all for free....Definitely start using it again.
Vue used to be my go to for final renders and of course environments but I dropped it when they went subscription.
1) download v2024 & plantfactory
2) uninstall v11
3) Install v2024 & plantactory
4) GO!

@@Geekatplay It works. The thing is if Eon had not moved to a subscription service I would have happily paid for the next version. I just hope that now its free they do not stop upgrading it.
I think team BLENDER should buy the core code and continue the development and cross platform integration ....they have the TALENT and Money.

I have terrain elevation raw data at one meter resolution, elevation as floating point numbers, about 2000 x 3000 points. Can I load this kind of data into Vue, either as-is or modifying it into some well-documented format? Can Vue handle the loaded data?

The problem with Vue is that 1)It’s very slow to render high quality, and 2)It still has significant aliasing issues when rendering animation. Once upon a time this was state of the art. Now it’s easily replaceable by tools that do a far better job at terrain (Gaea), level design (UE), instancing, scattering, clouds, skies, oceans, and nature assets (Houdini, Blender, Quixel). Speed Tree is much better for tree design, and there are a ton of great assets available for UE and Blender.
It was slow. I only have an 8-core CPU. Currently planning to upgrade to 24-core CPU. But I want to use this for atmospheric backgrounds. I want to explore overcast skies in urban settings. I still have not seen any good demos of heavy storm clouds on a horizon. Maybe it requires more work?
Vue did fall behind on some technology. And it is better tool for specific tasks out there. Never less it is still be good tool.
I went to UE and I'm amazed...I have imported some terrains from vue...I stopped at vue 2016. Rendering is very slow but I see that now there is no limit on rendercows so that could help. Also there is some support for ue. I really liked vue but after going back into it since I started using UE it gets me riled with its quirks. The open VDB feature might be worth the download of 2024. Has anyone used it?

I dont think so, it is very good application, I was surprised that Bentely hold for that long. I think originally they bought e-onsoftware just for technology of real time render, that they used in own software.
MojoWorld isn't much use to anyone right now either, but it's still worth its full price. Moreover, among Mojo enthusiasts it is considered extremely bad form to use the program without a license, even though you can't get one anymore.

@@Geekatplay Support apparently is almost impossible to get hold of. They require a ticket, which requires an account name already on file; which I do not have. My guess is I am out of luck.
My e-on account name does not work, it needs to be a Bentley account.
Please dont mention Blender is such exciting news like free PlantFactory. Blender is garbage.
