This is my all-time FAVORITE, & clearest way that I've seen to "knit-weave in" yarn ends; I've seen many. Thank you so much for making this so simple. 💖
That's great to hear, thank you! xx
D
I am so thankful for this tutorial. ELEGANT! BRILLIANT!
I'm so glad it's helped you, thank you! 😀
Just found this vid. MUST try this! Others I’ve tried...didn’t quite work...
Summer is for socks, perusing your patterns, vids. ALWAYS finding a new tip or trick! Thank you!
It's always worth a try, there are so many techniques that there really is something that suits everyone 😀
So glad I watched this. I hate sewing in ends. 🙏🏻❤️
Me too! 😀
OMG!!!! HOW has this technique eluded me until now? I taught knitting for years to Community Ed, Girl Scouts, Knitting Groups and anyone who wanted to learn. TY TY TY for sharing this. Have a great day! ♥
I'm so glad you think it's useful! Thank you to you for passing on your skills, I think that being able to knit is something that essential for saving sanity! xx
G’day from South Australia 🇦🇺 this episode was very easy to understand following your directions 👍🏻
Hello to you! I'm really glad it helped 😀
So happy to see an even better way of weaving in ends that what I've been using all these years. This pulling the yarn over the top is simply magnificent! Thank you for this helpful video!
I'm really glad you've found it helpful! I love discovering new ways to do things that I've done for years! 😀
I've been thinking of adding contrasting toes and heels for my 5th pair of socks. I think my husband will love them. Mine will be the 6 th pair...
That's brilliant! I always add contrast heels and toes for my husband as he likes them best 😀 xx
I've never seen this technique before. It's pure genius! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thank you, I hope it's really useful for you!
Oh! How did I not know this was here. I’m an idiot. Winwick Mum is the only socks I’ve ever made and in nearly two years I never realised there are videos.
Perhaps I need to shout a bit louder that they're here! 😀
@@WinwickMumsocks maybe, some of that are newer to your Facebook pages etc, might need a refresher xx

Very clever 🤩
Thank you! 😀
Sorry if this has been asked and answered elsewhere but I wonder if you could knit the heel flap in contrast yarn then go back to your original yarn and pick up the stitches on the right edge of the flap then knit the live heel turn stitches and pick up the left side?its not something I've seen done (certainly haven't watched all tutorials out there) so I'm thinking there must be a reason it wouldn't work. Thanks Catherine
Hi! Yes, you absolutely can do this and that's usually what I do with my own socks these days. The reason that I showed the other method in the video is that the SSK decrease will become the first decrease and the K2tog will be the second, so the other way around from the way the Sockalong pattern is written, and because I created this video for beginners using the Sockalong pattern then I wanted to keep it so that it all followed the same method :)
Can I ask why you only pick up one leg of the selvage stitch? Does it keep the stitches tighter without tiny gaps between the heel flap selvage pick-up stitches and the rest of the foot?
It's just my preference - it really doesn't matter which leg of the stitch you pick up or even both legs if you want to, it all depends on which finished result you like best 😀
Hi! Love your vids, you have absolutely helped me become the sock legend that I am lol (well my family think so anyway lol)
Quick question, I have just about got my head around the weaving method you show above when changing colour when I am straight knitting, but if I'm doing a rib (I'm currently trying it on some apple blossom socks I'm knitting) I get into such a pickle with it! Any tips please? Thanks in advance xx mandi
Oh fabulous, I love that you're a sock legend, Mandi! When changing colours for the rib, I'd suggest that you treat it in the same way as the heel flap, so either carry the yarn across the back whilst you do the purl stitches or anchor the yarn with the first couple of knit stitches and then weave the ends in later using a wool needle. Hope that helps! xx
Thank you for this! I'm knitting your basic pattern again but with scraps. I was knitting the first 3 stitches together (to weave in later) but it looked awful. Problem solved 😀
That's brilliant to hear, I'm so glad it helped! xx
I'm wondering how this would work if I were using a ribbed stitch. What do you do when you are using a purl stitch?
It's not so easy to use this technique with rib - the choice is either to carry the yarn past the purl stitches and just weave in with the knit stitches, or to weave in the first couple of stitches to anchor the yarn and then leave a tail end that you can sew in later. This tends to be my preference - I don't mind weaving in a couple of ends as long as I don't have to do too many! If you're knitting striped ribbed socks, though, it might be more of an issue so you'd have to take a view about how you felt about that!
What size needles are you using? Your video is wonderful!
It's a 2.5mm 30cm short circular needle made by Addi. I'm glad you like the video, thank you! :)
What size needle are you using please?
I use a 2.5mm 30cm short circular needle but this method will work for any type of needle 😀
I'm having a hard time translating the movements of this to the way I knit, which is continental. do you have any tips? thanks!
Have a look at this video ua-cam.com/video/lw2GnvBzD-Y/v-deo.html - it's not one of mine but they use the same method as I do and knit using Continental style like you. It might just help! xx
@@WinwickMumsocks you're an angel, thank you!!
@@friday3592 You're very welcome :) xx
Is there a way to adapt this to reverse stockinette or rib?
I don't think it's possible to use this method with reverse stockinette in the round as you're purling every stitch so you'd be weaving in on the wrong side. With rib, you can only really weave in on every knit stitch so you get a jump across the purl stitches - it will still work but it's up to you whether you feel it would be more secure to weave the ends in afterwards. With reverse stockinette, I don't think there's any other way but to weave the ends in. Hope that helps!
@@WinwickMumsocks : Thank you. 😁
Would it be possible for you to do a video using continental knitting?
Although I can knit in the continental style, it's not my regular method of knitting so I probably wouldn't choose to make any videos using this method. Is it a general how-to-do-it video that you're looking for?
Yes, it's the Contrast Cuff, Heel and Toe Socks - joining in new colours video using continental style that I am requesting.
@@Kanoock Ah right! I don't have any plans to make a video for that as continental knitting isn't my usual style. You should still be able to weave the ends of the yarn over and under your working yarn whichever hand you hold it in, though, so the process shouldn't be that different. A quick Google search brought up this video which might be helpful for you: ua-cam.com/video/BfST5Hkr_U4/v-deo.html
Exactly what I was looking for Thank you so very much.
