  • This is a place that you won't find on the map in Singapore. Yes, it is on a map in the way every part of the world is on the map but this challenging hike in Singapore involves going off the usual hiking route and into the jungle. First we stopped off at the Bukit Timah Railway cafe. This is a newly renovated building serving food, coffee and nice icecream. After making your way through the Jungle brush, jumping over muddy gaps, you arrive at the entrance to the hidden abandoned railway that runs all the way through the hike.
    Wikipedia says:
The original Bukit Timah Railway Station was a wooden construction at Pei Wah Avenue on the 1903 line from Woodlands to Singapore (River Valley Road) via Newton. The Singapore station was replaced in 1907 when a new station was built at Tank Road and the line extended to Pasir Panjang, the old station at River Valley road became a goods only station incorporated into the later expanded Tank Road complex. The station, along with the line between Woodlands at the northern edge of Singapore and Tanjong Pagar at the southern end, closed on 1 July 2011. and was returned to Singapore.
Without a doubt, you will get muddy on this hike. If you are lucky, you will come across what might be Singapores only natural waterfall.
Be carefull of the big leafed plants with the nickname "Elephants ears" as they are poisonous. This is one of my favourite hikes in Singapore and one that is not the typical hike you would find at McRitchie Resevoir.
