Chill/Average/Assertive doesn't just affect follow distance. It also affects the acceleration curve, speed based lane changes, the maximum auto speed and probably more that I don't recall offhand.
Took delivery of my 2024 M3 a week and a half ago, but it’s taken me until today to calibrate the cameras for FSD. Finally, today, it happened and I had already downloaded and installed v12.3.6. Unbelievable software, and it had me grinning from ear to ear the whole drive. Little quirky with certain lane changes (confidence it wants to be in a certain lane or turning into a certain lane). Some jerky steering wheel movements but nothing safety-related. It had trouble understanding when school zones or construction speed zones ended at times; it would continue going 30km/hour even if I knew based on the back of the sign we were back to 50+. But other than the minor issues it handled so many aspects of driving better than most human drivers in my opinion. It’s the plethora of (ever-receding) edge cases that shackle the software, but I use that term loosely. For context I’m in Victoria, a stone’s throw from you in Vancouver Yashu!
People are now nitpicking that FSD is being too safe and not taking potentially dangerous moves like running yellow lights, cutting lanes etc. Tesla will never allow that, and this is a good thing. FSD is to make driving safer for 99% of people. Not to appeal to the 1% of people that want to take risks.
Ppl complain that it’s hesitant but that’s part of the reason why it’s safer than humans driving. Ppl are reckless and inpatient. I don’t understand ppl that are happy to share how much safer it is using it but want it to be faster. One of the main selling points of FSD is less accidents so it’s going to take less risk, I’m happy for this to come as there are many drivers like you that jump through lights and take unnecessary risk.
FSD is not safer than a human! Please stop repeating that drivel. A human driver has years of experience, and ultra-advanced brain and optical system (eyes). A human can drive every day for 10 years without an accident. FSD couldn't do any challenging drive without human help, and human supervision.
@@ChrisM752 So a human nervously watching a simpleton FSD computer for *every* *second* is safer than the human driving the car himself? That makes no sense. And only Tesla Corp would make such a claim, and they are totally biased.
I don't think I've ever seen it do that lane change wobble if there was a car beside it that it could hit. It just seems to have picked up something in the training data where on a clear road, humans can be indecisive..
Hey man! New subscriber here. Nice video. Looking forward to keeping up with your insights. And I really loved seeing you help your dad there on the city streets 😊. That was nice, tho. Feel better having watched. Thanks.
I actually think v13 won’t be out then. Musk said v12.4 and v12.5 are in testing internally. There will likely be 12.4.x releases and 12.5.x releases. I don’t see all that playing out in 3 months.
I would think though.. that FSD being less aggressive than humans for example accelerating into the yellow.. is probably what makes it safer than human. There will undoubtedly be a higher rate of accidents as people are aggressively going through yellow lights.
❤ Awesome video. You are afraid of what others think. You want to drive as everyone else, be strong be your self - never mind others. Let them honk. Who cares, people are reckless.
I will watch more of your FSD drive videos. I resonate with your driving style and critiques but like you, I'm also optimistic about the potential. That and, I used to live in Vancouver, so its nice seeing the surroundings and being able to reminisce 😂
I did not now flashing green lights. Not used in the rest of the world, I think. In Sweden 🇸🇪♥️ and most likely most of Europe - we have flashing orange, meaning the lights its out of order. Do you have that?
In Ontario, a flashing green means that the opposing traffic has a red. . . so one can make a left turn, if required. Saves having a special left turn arrow light
I really would like to enjoy FSD but it’s not ready. Almost got hit in the back from a Tacoma car stopped in the middle of the road while taking a left turn and the whiplash is insane
Complaining about the car not committing at an intersection is inconsequential. When you are in the back seat on your phone you won’t care. No one complains about an Uber or taxi driver’s driving, unless it’s unsafe.
A very easy trip for a human, but FSD cannot do it: 0:06 Very slow right turn 2:32 Human intervenes: taps the accel pedal 9:58 Narrator says FSD *cannot* go in reverse 12:36 Wipers turn on, for no reason 13:16 Human must intervene, FSD failed to move right Still a long road ahead, for FSD.
@@HitThatBid But all those inconveniences show that FSD is *far* *away* from being a trustworthy Level 5 system that can operate alone. Still lots of human help is needed, after almost *four* *years* in beta. People that say "FSD is solved", or "Level 5 coming soon" should face the reality.
What did you think of the trip? Let me know in the comments
Not close to prime time.

Still Level 2, with issues.
Level 5 Full Autonomy is far away.

Amazing.
8.8 is coming and v 13 will be out that date.

How did that work out?
I like your intelligent reasoning , on the FSD experience
I hope the next video is "Let's FSD (Supervised) to Mount Seymour together"! ;)
Man appreciate you making these videos! Don’t listen to all these bot haters hating on more sophisticated bots!

I have never seen a flashing green light in the US.
We call them Traffic Lights. Street lights are what we use to see at night. . .
8:00 Disabled Horns make people better, more courteous drivers
have you adjusted the drive settings?
Does the latest FSD handle U-Turn?
Did you say that you press bit on accelerator when you see it too slow while in FSD mode? Just wondering about it will cancel FSD ?
Accelerator doesn’t cancel. Brake will tho

It’s unfair that US Costco doesn’t get poutine

How does FSD handle aggressive territorial birds with a chip on their shoulder against content creators?
😂😂😂
People will need to put a sign letting other ppl know it's an autonomous car. Hopefully, that will cause less road rage when FSD acts up.
A bit faster and assertive is better, not unsafer at all, accidents come from drunken people or being distracted. Kudos!
Just drive your car like everyone else. There are little babies and our families out on those roads. Stop 🛑

Can you be more specific? Clearly the human driver had to disengage at the end because the self-driving system FAILED.
And yet none of these inconveniences resulted in a disengagement. The last is not an FSD issue. It can’t read my mind on where I need to park.

How so? Got me all the way to Costco with no disengagements
In California it's going to have to be built like the Cybertruck, the zombies will trash it. FSD needs a middle finger 😮
