If Ed is able to just stare at Zwift on the bike for FIVE hours...he’s got a very special tolerance for not just physical pain but mental too. Dude put on a Netflix show or something.
Haha, I actually do watch Netflix during these longer workouts, but it's just not shown in the above video. I can sometimes make it through an entire series during one training session. :)
Longest trainer ride I've ever done was 60 and that was once, so painful ;). Good for you and good luck! Hopefully I'll make it there one day. Another side note, I never use headphones outside, only on the trainer/treadmill, have to train how you race, right?
Seriously though - time spent away from family (especially before he became so successful, but perhaps now, too), all kinds of internal and external disagreements, dissatisfaction with this or that, self-doubt, crowds of untrustworthy ass kissers, etc. This is what I can imagine at least. Everybody has problems, and the more you try to do, the more problems you get. I'm not saying Ed is miserable. Far from it! It's just that I'm sure he doesn't live in any sort of eternal happiness paradise.
One should know that Ed was an extremely good runner at and after college. 2:21 for a marathon and 1:05 for a half-marathon are not shabby at all. Once you were on that level of a pro athlete, you can get back to it much quicker than someone who never did sports. What is amazing is how quickly you must have mastered the swimming part. Because the technique usually takes much longer if you have no prior knowledge.
Yeah the video makes you feel like just out of the blue in 4 months (brother) he won. He definitely had a relevant history which the video hides. The leg sinking statement was cheezy and dramatic, Still admire his dedication.
What an absolute legend of a man.. successful in his career, family man and takes care of his body and fitness.. bravo sir. Sending you the best of luck from the UK
Man, this is the most inspirational youtube movie related to triathlon ! Taking care of a big family and finding all that time to train and reaching those performencess is amazing ! Thanks for sharing this !
Spectacular video Ed! Thank you so much for documenting your journey! Please keep the videos coming! Inspirational for all of us to see! Really cool to have a glimpse on your family life and how you balance. Beautiful family! Cheering for you from Panama!
Nowadays is harder to look at someone and not get an inspiration but what you've done and what you are doing is just amazing a great example of dedication and patience, looking forward to hear about your results. Never settle, stay strong!
Ed, I also did Lake Placid this year and to see this profile of the person who won the race is truly inspirational, best of luck to you Saturday at Kona and congratulations on the new addition to your family.
So inspiring Ed! Sorry to hear about what happened in Kona but glad to hear you're already looking to next year and how you can lean from the experience. Strong work!!!
Aloha form Maui Ed and family. Man...you r amazing and I bet your family too...hats off to you and the family support. As a former triathlete I have a good idea of how challenging can be to put together family, kids, wife, work and training together! I deeply wish you best of luck!!!!! Congrats for the new baby boy!!!!! amazing wife!!!!!!!
Hello Ed Baker, I have a rare disease, ankylosing spondylitis, my dream is to make an ironman. I started doing triathlon 2 months ago, i am 40 years old, from Portugal. This video is an inspiration, thank you, Carlos
Hey Ed,great video you really are a athlete,I’m training for my first iron man at 59,enjoying it,a change from training for ultra marathons here i cumbria
We wish you the best Ed in your quest in Kona. It will just be a beginning. Just pace yourself (do your math) its a different ballgame in the hot and humid Hawaii.
Such a big inspiration for me that dont matter how old you are anything is possible beautiful family like mine i start my training today hope i can be like you someday such a big example thanks a lot
Big respect! Starting something like this takes a big currage and a lot of hard work with determination, especialy in your age. You moving the perspective on the age thing i think. I will folow you jurney. 😎❤️
Good luck ed I'm a 51 year old triathlete from Montreal I train in mont tremblant I started this 3 years ago it's never to late go out there and give it all you got. Petal to the metal. Just keep telling yourself that you are stronger then any temperature or condition. Treat it like just another training day. Ps. The most important thing is have fun. 👍
Very, very impressive man. You're doing the work and you're getting the results. I really appreciate the way you choose to show what you're doing; I think too many people try to show 'hacks' that reduce the work. Ultimately, it's all about the work. Good stuff.
Very inspirational video, the way you manage your life, job and sport shows how successful and motivated you are. Wish you all the best for Kona race, I will definitely follow your race on the app
Go Ed! You're an inspiration! What a great video! I did Ironman California 70.3 and the Buffalo Springs Ironman 70.3 in Lubbock in the middle of the summer. It was brutal, but no Kona! I'll be watching.
i went to the art institute of Boston right by Harvard. we would often sneak onto your track at the collosium to get some track workouts in. good times. I've done about 7 marathons but I am really itching to get into triathlons and ironmans, I've been cycling more than running lately, grew up a a swimmer too so it only seems right. hope the race is well!
It people like this like make you realize that we are not all equal. We all deserve the same rights etc. But on a purely black and white assessment this guy is a beast. Inspirational, good luck!!!!
Much respect bro! I have a 1 year old and my wife works 2nd shift while I work 1st shift. It’s very hard to find the time to train. I have thought many times that I wanna quit a full time job to pursue training!
Hey Ed, congrats. I am waiting to do my 70.3 but I am weak on my swim. Can you talk about your swim journey in the next video? How to better at swim etc.
I would have sent you a comment privately but don't have your email. I noticed that you DNF at Kona. I wanted to encourage you and tell you that it is all about the journey and the process. I have done a few Olympic distance tris and dream of doing full Ironman some day but realize that it takes an incredible amount of time and dedication. You put a ton of time into this and it is not wasted at all. Even pros DNF. Keep your head up. You will finish!
Hi Ed, training for my first Ironman next year, just found this video and it's amazing. I've subscribed to your channel and can't wait to see how you get on in Kona this week.
Ironmans are cool and all, but I was most surprised when he was like "I saw Mark Zuckerberg post a picture of Zwift so I texted him and was like what is this?" Texting Zuck, nbd

First Ironman and you win and qualify for Kona lol. Harvard, business school, Facebook, Uber. You win at life.
and 4 kids on top of that, how to make all that work ...
Actually think about all the stuff they don't show in this rosy picture.
@@kajet666 For example? Serious question :P

Provably one of the most sympathetic guys on UA-cam really authentic
5 and a half hours on a trainer!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS? 30 mins on a trainer feels like an eternity!
Haha, 5.5 hours also feels like an eternity!!!
I done 110miles on it many times. Its a real time stoper 😄
not on zwift
@@thomasgaderer7328 Zwift is better than training out side, I do like 3/4hour structured workouts tho. 5/6 days a week!
WOW! Watched this video for the first time. Im lost for words. Thanks for the encouragement and hope.
The fact that you are simulating the humidity as a non-pro is ridiculously admirable. Good luck this weekend!
