It's funny how Uli is contained and has absolutely nothing to prove, and even when "challenged" he plays simple, but masterful things. He is a true monster guitar player!
Yes. You nailed it. At some point the old masters yield to their apprentices, who have become younger masters. Can't wait to see who Paul jams with when he's in his 60s.
Paul Gilbert is one of the most solid human beings I've ever had the pleasure to spend time with. He never has a nasty word to say about anybody and always has time to talk about guitars, surprising! I know!!! As well as other stuff. To hate him is pointless because he would just smile and go on making awesome music and let his axe speak for him! He shreds, He's molodic, he's groove oriented, in short, he's the most well rounded guitarist's I've ever met and watched play up close!! Stop hating
He seems to be a really nice guy. I emailed him once to thank him for how funny his old website was, not really expecting a reply I added "in case you actually read this" and then asked what guitar he was using in the "Barks" video magazine clips for United States. He actually took the time to reply and not only tell me what model it was but that he got it on ebay!
@@jamesyoung7560 Dont think hes a show off but maybe a little restraint when working with your mentors No head cutting Its respectful to a guy twice his age IMO All good
Paul Gilbert is technically proficient and much more. He is fluent in many different styles of rock guitar playing. His blues phrasing is better than many hard rock players of his generation. He can also sing, arrange, and song-write his ass off. Discussions about historical longevity and whatnot strike me as pointless, because in this cyber-age people can "remember" whatever they want. But the dude is not crap by any stretch of the imagination.
Yeah Michael is in his prime and his spirits are good, i'm positive he's gonna rockon in the states after releasing bridge the gap, Uli is a badass too, i'm sure he will jet thru the states in the near future, keep rockin.
"Was a great game Gilbert started well and led for the 1st half of the game but then Roth came charging in from the wing and the 2 fought it out in the middle of the park and it was during this wrangle that Roth very kindly allowed Gilbert through to finish the game off-final score 1-0"
I respect your characterization of this as a game, and I see your point. I see it differently , as an exchange between a master and an apprentice. The master gracefully acknowledges the apprentice's accomplishments (he's now a master too!) with grace and joy, and hands off the crown. In the end, there are no winners or losers, and this video is a lesson in life.
I Guess PG resulted too much for the great UJR at least in this case or maybe he wasn't totally in the feelling in this precise moment. Anyway, both are awesome
oh yeah... you prefer one than another and you have to say that "he could've "ate" him alive"?! i don't think any of these guys can be EATEN alive on guitar playing that was a very unfortunate comment from you... sorry for your comment
Any ham and egger can play with his teeth. Uli is like.. 'You ain't no Michael Schenker that for sure'. This kid is ok but, kind of a waste of Uli's time Imo. btw..props to anyone who owns the War Heros album.
Paul does not approach the guitar anyway close to how Uli does. There is no way your comment could even be accurate. Paul is good at being influenced by players he likes. Uli is influential in a way only Uli could be.
LOL, yeah Uli could pass as a flower child with that groovy outfit, doesn't take away from his playing ability though, the guy's a Monster, but Michael Schenker is the King and will always be the Maestro.
Budgie Cat Um EXCUSE me, he's playing with ULI JON ROTH HERE, you IDIOT! and ULI does not need to put a CHICKEN BUCKET on HIS head to get attention, thank you very much!
Two of the most humble guitar gods you could ever meet. I was lucky enough to meet both of them over the years...Just look at Paul's demeanor he's like a. Little kid meeting his hero...So Awesome... Thanks for the upload.👍
paul gilbert is awesome and theres a whole generation that doesnt know who paul is soloing with but paul does uli roth is such an underrated guitar player ask michael schenker how good uli roth is and he will talk your ears off about his awesome abillities.
I want to comment but I'm finding it hard to pay enough tribute & respect to this performance. One of the top 5 shredders of all time, who started his career many years after this song was written, playing with an old master in such a happy and respectful way. And watching Uli match Paul for a while, then handing off the soloing to a "youngun" almost makes me cry. Uli is a legend, and this proves (as if we needed more proof) that Paul is one too.
Uli.. once again cheating by putting that magical gem on his socketed Sky Guitar. Whoever equips that guitar have +100 skill points. Only you have to be at level 60 to be able to wield it. Meanwhile, Paul Gilbert's hands seems like he can play a third of the fret board without even moving position.. those hands are massive..
The OLD Dude"S name is ULI JOHN ROTH and the man is amazing, listen to the early scorpions albums, the tonal control , the articlate picking, the sweeps the melodic lines , I can go on and on nothing but love and respect !
Sky guitar is gorgeous, but I don't really like its tone. I'm not talking about Uli's impressive skills, of course, just saying I find the tone of his guitar not good enough for his performance.
For anyone unfamiliar with Uli or if you have doubts about his skill watch this video, he IS the father of neo-classical and on par with Hendrix. ua-cam.com/video/Zs5NOrYYV2s/v-deo.html
Apsatively, poselutley jaw dropping licks. Wow Paul Gilbert makes it look so easy. So easy for him of course, therefore having fun without any wrong notes.🎸👍😜
gotta admit Paul is the man he is just a schoolboy that gets to play with the heroes and remember, most of these guys are not so eager to play with young shredders. Paul Has the humble attitude and the REAL appreciation for the masters
Of course "The most dangerous band in the world" I fuckin LOVE RACER X and I sincerely hope for at least one more album. There is no such thing as a bad racer x song. What a terrifying group of virtuosos. No one will ever top them Imo. cheers.
I like Gilbert's improvisation here. It's better than Uli's. Someone don't like Uli's guitar sound. Yeah It's too one dimensional.Too bright, brittle, no bottom end. But that's Uli's taste for sound like guitar violin? Gilbert is comedian always never see him miserable.
I think it tries to emulate the Strat sound ... His playing, I think is more refined than Gilbert's though. Just pay attention to all the weird bends end virbrattos. But, here, Gilbert really shines. I usually don't like his tone, but he nailed this time!
1st of all i dnt know who the hell u are but dnt try to define a man's playing by a stereotyping a race , being a racist won't help you in finding which vibrato is poor and which is not ..... Paul has one of the most stable guitar hands , his vibratos are neat and pretty stable ... i am not a PG fan but that doesn't mean i would stand someone ranting a great player by offensive means :/
Well done, you've masqueraded opinion as fact, which doesn't really work in music. Fact: Paul is a famous and popular guitarist within his genre. Opinion: Paul is unoriginal/crap See? Easy.
Nobody much aside from all the thousands upon thousands who just keep turning up at his tours and gigs and buying his music. They just don't get the hint.
@joeylodes i feel so nerdy for knowing what those statues are called and who they are statues of lol also, did you notice the awesome video? well obviously you did
I could kind of see how Uli might not want to go there (duel) w Paul but he is well respected enough and a pioneer at that. He's always been shy...would a couple of drinks have helped?
Uli's career was during the exact same time period as Rory's but it's possible, though. Uli's main influences were Hendrix and Blackmore who probably influenced Gallagher.
There are lots of well-rounded players and it's pointless to say one is moreso than another but if we're going to be honest..Friedman and Bettencourt are the first two players I think about it terms of being well-rounded.
Thanks for the response, i prefer Michael playing the Gibson V's as i do myself, but i have to say Elliott's giving Michael Schenker the freedom to work his idea's in on the build's with the designer's, which makes the guitar build an absolute signature guitar and of course last last few years the dean's are sounding quite exclusive to Michael's tone. Pretty kool when the CEO of Dean guitar's is playing bass for you ( ;

PAUL GILBERT you are freaking awesome GREATEST GUITARIST OF ALL TIME !!!!!!
I disagree that Gilbert is a show off....he just loves playing....his joy is contageous...he is the most modest guy you y could even meet.

Monster collaborations ROCK. Two of the BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!
uli the great

Well, that was fun.
OMG...awesome
DAMN PAUL YOU HAVE A HENDRIX VOICE FROM HELL BROTHER.
@nirvanafrik oh I didin´t know that was the main reason for the flipping of the Iceman. Do you know why Paul chose that exoting wood as well?
What model of guitar is Paul playing? It looks like a cool, upside down variation on the Iceman.
Paul calls it the Fireman, which is the opposite of the Iceman. Get it?
Yeah Michael is in his prime and his spirits are good, i'm positive he's gonna rockon in the states after releasing bridge the gap, Uli is a badass too, i'm sure he will jet thru the states in the near future, keep rockin.
It's true!
And the name of the fucking song is Highway Chile, by Jimi Hendrix, one "old" dude that would eta 'em all alive
Uli God Roth is the Greatest Guitarist Ever !!! what the fokkk are you talking about !!!
Wow Paul can sing too!
what does he say at 7:43
That first lick sounds like Leslie West
Uli

Somewhy I feel Uli is not playing at all... he could've ate him alive =)
auf strat ist bessere sound !
wait, it seemed like PG was rude to Uil
Brash speedster compared to a true musical guitarist that is the great Ulrich Roth.
Paul schooled Uli... What else can you say???
Get real. Uli obviously didn't go all out for this particular solo while Gilbert was basically showing off.
Once you start viewing playing music as a competition you have already lost.
Joe Palumbo EXACTLY !!!
Paul does not approach the guitar anyway close to how Uli does. There is no way your comment could even be accurate. Paul is good at being influenced by players he likes. Uli is influential in a way only Uli could be.
stupid observation, both are having fun and playing their parts, uli just give paul a spotlight, and music is NOT a competition
He schooled that old boomer. That granpa was farting dust
Paul Gilbert and Uli Jon Roth? It can't get much better than that.
with van halen it would be perfect :-D
Uli is a real gentleman, to step aside,
and then to give credit to Paul's great playing.
very cool
Two of the best.
LOL, yeah Uli could pass as a flower child with that groovy outfit, doesn't take away from his playing ability though, the guy's a Monster, but Michael Schenker is the King and will always be the Maestro.
Gilbert's guitar looks so ordinary next to Uli's Sky guitar. I suppose it is. That Sky is a bad mutha - bad enough for Uli...
It's tacky but it's a potent instrument for sure.
Holy crap, I knew Paul Gilbert was good but....damn HE'S REAL GOOD.
I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was at M.I.
Nicest guy in the world.
why wont he play with Buckethead then...
Clan Dragonas good? yes he is, and I don't even like his work but wow, the guy can play.
Budgie Cat Um EXCUSE me, he's playing with ULI JON ROTH HERE, you IDIOT! and ULI does not need to put a CHICKEN BUCKET on HIS head to get attention, thank you very much!

The ONLY advantage Paul Gilbert has over Uli Jon Roth are his excessive long fingers.
Uli has such a nice happy attitude. probably why he plays so good.
He's one of the coolest guy I know
My 2 favorite players... Excellent
Uli Jon Roth Is brother of David Lee Roth.. Then they decided to form a band called Van Halen.
Racer X I remember. Ulrich Jon Roth, Scorpions 70's era. The Best of them All.
This is like looking in awe at those 2 monstrous statues in the first Lord of the Rings movie.
2:36 - Novices take note. The position of the mouth is very important to get the proper tone on your guitar! ;-)
Instead of retuning the low string, he'd be better off with a FloyRose don'tcha know.
Sounds like Kindergarten. Feww notew and is understood how many miles ahead Hendrix was
Btw , it is called Highway Chile ;)
Why can so few drummers channel mitch mitchell....every body sure does jock jimi though
Two of the greatest players on the planet sporting two of the ugliest guitars made.
rubicon1983 Paul's is his signature model.
Matthew Urton it'still ugly.
Paul almost left without his DS-1
Uli Jon Roth is the only guy out there who doesn't give a crap to PG's "demands" and in the end makes Paul look like a kid desperate for attention
Paul Gilbert is my favourite guitarist of all time 🎸🎸🎸 Rock on Paul 🤟
And buckedhead😊
