It’s a public site where people are allowed to voice their opinions of public people. If you don’t like opinions that disagree with you, don’t read the comments. But attempting to stop other’s free speech is wrong.
So the moral of the story is royal wedding dresses should be well made but cheap; not old fashioned and not avant-garde; not too simple and not too "elaborate"; and finally not too baggy and not too stiff.
I agree. In spite of her height, it was still too much dress. If I had been the designer, I would have tried to talk her down, into something less "more"; something a little simpler.
I thought that all of the brides looked beautiful and I particularly liked Queen Mary of Denmark's dress which I thought now, and at the time, was exquisite.
Queen Letizia's dress is a masterpiece of Spanish haute couture, every detail of the dress is a tribute to Spain's culture and history. The problem is that it was too much for the bride. Letizia is too petite and too thin for so much dress, which swallowed her alive. Also, the pointy neckline made her already pointy facial features even pointier. Maybe some modifications, like a softer, more open neckline (Spanish royal brides are allowed to show their shoulders) and shorter sleeves would have worked better.
Left out the main reason why Queen Elizabeth objected to MM’s dress: it was pure white and MM had been married and divorced. The poor fit is consistent with MM’s usual looks. It is very rare that her clothing fits properly.
I don't know which "experts" are picking these, but Queen Mary's dress was beautiful, and I also liked Lady Serena's dress. And Princess Madeleine's dress was gorgeous, apart from the dust ruffle on the skirt. Meghan Markle's dress should have been #1, no question. Boring, inappropriate, and ill-fitting.
Me too. She was out of her comfort zone, for sure. If you see pictures of her the night before, she looked absolutely terrified. For an ordinary, lovely Australian girl, she went to international fame. She has done a wonderful job, though. She has ease and elegance, now. I think if you are famous, you are automatically going to be critiqued no matter what you do or wear.
Let's be honest, none of the dresses in this video is anywhere near the worst, not even remotely. Some people just didn't like the one or other dress and commented about it. Fair enough, since tastes differ, that is to be expected. I didn't like some of them all that much either, but still wouldn't say they were the worst. They were just not to my taste. In short, there will never be the one universally perfect dress, that everyone on this planet will love and not criticise even a little bit. As long as the bride loves it, it's the perfect dress for her. Yes, people are allowed their opinions, and may voice them, but in the end, with the wedding over, they are irrelevant, as is this video. It's nothing but clickbait, especially since most of the gowns aren't even royal wedding dresses. Nobility and ex-nobility/ex-royals aren't royal, not even if they are related to actual royalty. As for some of these dresses being outragously expensive, if they've got the money, why not? They are allowed to spend it however they wish, be it on a wedding dress, a car, or a wine cellar.
there is....i totally loved Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco...and the headpiece...for me that was the best. The second one love it or not i have to give top marks for Fergie's wedding gown...
@@filomenadossantos5934 While I agree, that Grace Kelly's dress was stunning, I do not like the headpiece at all. Fergie's dress, I also liked, but it was very much of its time, and the 80ies were a bit crazy and over the top when it came to fashion. That said, that's exactly, why I do have quite a soft spot for the 80ies, while also being glad they are over. Looking at old fotos of mine from back then, I sometimes do question my sanity at the time, but they are always good for a giggle. Anyway, what some people like in a dress, might be the very thing why others don't like it (too plain/too sparkly, too sleek/too voluminous, too Avantgarde/too traditional, and so forth). The one thing, that can be objectively critcised, in my opinion, is whether the dress fits the wearer or not - fit in the sense of too tight or loose, too long or short, etc. That's the one thing, f.e. that'd I'd criticise about Markle's dress, otherwise I also quite liked it. But, it just didn't fit her properly. Otherwise, I stand by what I said, that there never will be one universal dress, that everyone likes every aspect of. There sure are dresses, that most people like, as well as dresses that most people dislike, but that's still not everybody.
I disagree when people say lack of embellishment makes a dress bad. The wrong Embellishments make dresses difficult to alter & can date a dress prematurely. A simple design makes it easy to jazz up with accessories or other items. As much as I love Princess Diana, you know that style of dress would not fly today. However, Meghan Markle, Princess Margaret & other simpler dresses are seen more often.
@ShinbiBelldandy That is the main thing wrong with Princess Diana's dress. All those flounces, ribbons, bows, and other 80s- style frufraw took the attention away from that beautiful face. And the fabric! Besides there being entirely too much of it, it also wrinkled badly.
I *loved* my gown. I was to be married in late April in Boston. This time of year has historically seen temperatures from the low 40s to the high 70s. I thought I wanted an off-the-shoulder lace gown, in case the day was hot, because of this. I went shopping alone, because I never saw the point of dragging other people, whose opinions I would never listen to in the first place, with me to critique my choices. I found and purchased a gorgeous Bianchi designer A-line gown made of Schiffli lace with full, fitted sleeves and a high collar. Definitely *not* what I was looking for, but definitely what I wanted. My mother, the narcissist for whom I never did anything right, cried when she saw it. So, this is my very long agreement with your statement!
Princess Diana’s wedding dress was th worst ever. I remember sitting waiting to see her dress and being disappointed. It was all wrinkled too as she climbed out of the car. It was like a dress one would love as a seven year old.
@bridgetmclaughlin6198 I agree. But she was young and inexperienced. The designers obviously didn't think about logistics or the suitability of the dress.
@rosemarymonty5399 Wrong fabric for the circumstances. Duchess silk is beautiful, but not for traveling in a car or carriage. It was the kind of dress you change into at the church so that it doesn't get crushed.
Zara Tindall is not Lady anything. Both she and her brother Peter were not given titles by their grandmother at their mother’s request. She is Mrs Tindall
I'd agree. I know it was the 80s, but it was just too much. Puffed sleeves, bows, embroidery, what wasn't on it? It was also in the absolutely wrong fabric. I know Diana was involved, but she was very young. Her dressmaker should have told her that between traveling in a car and carriage, the fabric would have looked like crinkled tissue paper. In all, it was just too much skirt, veil, and emblishment.
@@MargaretBlyth I would agree, Meghan's was the worst and then Diana's. Diana's was at least a product of the time and had some things going for it. Meghan's dress wasn't a product of the time - in fact conversely when she had so much fashion info at her disposal via the internet and connections to choose something her choice did not even appear to fit well. The dress had nothing about it to recommend itself. Not the fabric, not the silhouette, no embellishments. By far the worst.
Rubbish. Couture Givenchy a joke? I understand it’s beyond you, but to those who do know, it was a triumph. You just don’t like her. But her wedding ensemble was a triumph lost on the English and many Americans. Had she been a white girl from the home counties, it would be a very different tale
I was excited to see her emerge and then thought it looked like they ran out of time to put on embellishments and for the final fitting. And then having read thst the Queen requested her to wear a cream/offwhite dress with no veil and it really surprised me.
@lianecook9437 Why did that surprise you? The tramp was married several times before, and was faking a pregnancy! Meghan was a fraud in a sloppy dress, bad hair and stupid showboat veil.
Let's be honest. The criticism comes mainly from Americans who believe that their wedding tradition of showing a lot of bare skin as a bride and being the center of attention is universal. They simply cannot imagine that royals are not something like Hollywood stars, but representatives of the individual culture of their country. Example: Marie Chantall married in a Greek Orthodox ceremony, in the presence of the Queen. In such a setting you don't show yourself half naked. With her dress, Kelly of Saxe-Coburg takes up the traditional German Tracht of the Coburg region, in which the hip long bodice is worn on top, like every Bavarian Dirndl. And by the way: a clearer pronunciation instead of your hectic nasal sing-song would be better. You Americans are not the only ones on this planet.
@Frohds14 Hey, don't blame all Americans for having bad taste! I hate the half-naked look, myself. Hollywood starlets like it because it gives them free press, but people like Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway are much more tasteful in their styles. Yes, I will agree that there have been some American brides who chose appalling wedding dresses, but they are the exceptions, not the rule. And a lot of those fashion choices are directly off of French runways. Cathedral or even church marriages are becoming increasingly rare in most Western countries. Royals, however, are a different story! They are expected to marry in a church and usually are "encouraged" to wear more conservative styles.
Funny, I got great whiffs of EUROPEAN class snobbery from this video. Sniff, sniff. Money but no taste. I loved Marie Chantal's elegant dress and Queen Mary's dress as well. I haven't finished the video, but the only awful dresses were Serena's and Rania's (pronounced Rah nee ah).
Geez what got you mad this morning. It's obvious that you have never been to a traditional civilian wedding. Get your conceited nose out of crazy Hollywood and stop being so insulting.
Typically there are ALWAYS pros and cons, even with wedding dresses!! For example, I really like that Queen Rania dress with the veil and tiara!! So what you don't like, I like, & vice versa!! That's the case with just about everything in human life, right? It is silly to make this a topic with a 'general' opinion, so to speak, cause there are to many opinions and to many different people who also think & feel different. Seeing such dresses although is always a pleasure!!! Love (never hate) from Pinkie BTW: Remember the saying: "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder".

My goodness people are nasty and ridiculous. Stupid list, stupid reasoning, poor visual support of the subject, and terrible pronunciation of key names and terms. Go back and do it again. No, no, that wasn't a question.
No insult to you intended, but the drawback to that advice is that the bride-to-be's mindset can be cluttered with a lot of excitement and fantasy and excess that, in the years to follow, could make her look upon her wedding photos and wonder: "What was I THINKING?!? Why didn't anybody stop me from doing that?" Some dresses just don't go with some people. Chances are near zero that a dress will look the same on you as it does on a model in a photograph. Other folks can see you as you are unable to see yourself. Other folks may have made the same mistakes you seem intent on making, and want to save you from yourself. You don't HAVE to do what anybody else says to, but being able to listen to opinions from others, no matter how unwelcome or unwanted, could turn out to be constructive and beneficial.

Meghan Markle‘s wedding dress is pretty much an exact copy of the wedding dress of Princess Angela of Lichtenstein, who happens to be the only black princess in Europe. It’s not by accident. I agree with you, but the dress did not fit her properly although I do love a bateau neckline.
Fr though, and with all honesty it wasn't that much over the top idk why the hate it suited her and most importantly she liked it. The internet just loves criticism and hate
I don't like lace and am definitely inclined towards minimalist, so Princess Madeleine's dress was too fussy and frilly for my taste, however, it did actually suit her and she looked beautiful. Although, considering Crown Princess Victoria's minimalist dress, I do wonder to what extent Princess Madeleine's dress was influenced by a very human desire for a dress that was as different as possible to that of her older sister. I think most younger sisters would want a wedding dress that was different to that of their older sister.
In all fairness to the designer, and anyone else involved in the finished dress, MM wasn’t the easiest person to deal with and the fact that she kept changing her mind when she tried it on didn’t help. Apparently, in an overseas magazine, it was tactfully reported that sewing was still happening the night before the wedding - hence the fit wasn’t as good as it might have been. 🤷♀️

Most of the dresses on the video are beautiful works of art. They didnt...dont deserve so much criticism. From my point of view. And the brides are all so beautiful. The problem with royal weddings is that they have to meet some regal standards that make some dresses look a bit stiff in all senses.
The homage to the classic design was to her own mother in law Princess Margaret. Whose dress was nearly identical. Did the critics say the same about her dress? No. What a bunch of ignorant rubbish these critics talk.
And Marge from Tooting wants her net curtains back. That whole wedding was a farce, as if our history only exists as a kind of fantasy to a nutcase. Awful.
Meghan Markle's dress looked like a tablecloth made to be a dress. Princess Di's should have been listed also....too much dress too much puffy sleeve she drowned in it. But we loved her that day anyway.
So let me get this straight... not just that the "criticisms" shown were identical, and - I suspect - all, every single one, being about Harry & Meghan's wedding... a) simple is too plain. b) embellished is too fussy/ostentatious. c) comfortable fit is too loose. d) fitted makes it look like the bride can't breathe. e) classic is boring. f) modern is not traditional enough. By the way, Lady Serena Armstrong-Jones' gown was made from different materials, only the ballgown skirt was silk organza. And a lace overlay over a solid bodice is more beautiful than so many brides I've seen flaunt in "Say Yes to the Dress", where way too much skin is clearly visible between bust and knees - and at least none of these royal brides wore strapless gowns. The price of the gown is irrelevant, since the cost is usually borne by the bride's family (the exception being Meghan). The only two bridal gowns that I'd agree with being 'bad' were the Princess Napoléon (I found the cut-out lace motifs too large, individually, otherwise it was fine. But the biggest no-no was Meghan's, and that was not due to the dressmaker or the designer - the bridezilla changed her mind so often that the end result, even if it turned out how she intended was never going to fit properly (besides, speculation is that she'd copied what she'd seen Princess Angela of Liechtenstein wear - and the newly-minted Princess of Liechtenstein wore it better). And the sloppy hairdo, with those 'signature strands' flying about her face were also by Meghan's diktat... she tried to "explain" them after the backlash really hit, by claiming she felt the hairdo made her "more relatable"... I also assume that she'd shown Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II the proverbial finger by ignoring the diplomatic advice: "no white gown or veil for a divorcée" - it was already a huge concession that she was marrying in a full church ceremony, and none of it was paid by her (the alleged multi-millionaire) or her family (which she'd already disowned by then, as being beneath her).
I completely agree with everything you said about Meghan and her awful wedding dress. I cannot imagine going against Queen Elizabeth's requests for no white gown or veil. Just could NOT imagine doing that! But this was only one of the times she gave Her Majesty and the Royal Family the middle finger (she's an immature contrarian)! So she wore her hair in a "relatable" style? Well, how was anything about that wedding that cost millions relatable??? Nothing about her lifestyle choices are "relatable!" She buys ridiculously expensive UN-RELATABLE designer clothes, but 9 times out of 10 manages to look like crap. She's so full of it!
@@tooma4886 Once the backlash about the wedding really kicked in (and she who "never reads social media" 'got' the criticism about the ill-fitting dress and the hairdo mess - she applied a bit of damage limitation: of course there was the question as to why the hairdresser had let her go out with those straggly stringy bits hanging down, and hey presto! there was the explanation... she'd wanted to have that hairdo because "it made her more relatable"...

It very obviously required further fitting appointments. A good vendeuse can be every lady's greatest ally... Ms Markle rather desperately needs to find one, and soon!

@@Kate-lk6tw Princess Margaret's dress didn't have the extra panels over the skirt, and on her dress the bodice and skirt were the same fabric.
Spot on!

Although not shown here, Diana’s wedding dress was over-the-top. It looked overwhelming on her….perhaps foretelling of her life ahead.
Worst dress I ever saw.
I agree. In spite of her height, it was still too much dress. If I had been the designer, I would have tried to talk her down, into something less "more"; something a little simpler.

Queen Mary of Denmark's wedding dress was utterly stunning. Megan's looked blah and badly tailored - didn't fit.

What an absolute pointless exercise in nitpicking negativity.
Yes!

Meghan Markle's dress should have been #1, no question. Boring, inappropriate, and ill-fitting.
I thought Queen Mary's dress from Denmark was stunning
She looked beautiful, and very regal. Mary embraced her new home country, its culture and language, and her wedding gown reflected that.
I absolutely agree. I thought it was one of the most beautiful wedding dresses I'd ever seen. Breathtaking.
I thought Queen Marys dress was beautiful, elegant and very flattering.
Diana's dress was so bulky what a waste!
Just a triggering headline to get viewers to click on . . . sigh.
there is....i totally loved Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco...and the headpiece...for me that was the best.
The ugliest wedding dress I've ever seen was Princess Diana's.

Yes embellishments and jazzing up the plainer dress for when it is worn again in the future?????

Queen Mary of Denmark can wear a trash bag and still look angelic‼‼‼‼‼‼‼
Princess Diana’s wedding dress was th worst ever. I remember sitting waiting to see her dress and being disappointed. It was all wrinkled too as she climbed out of the car. It was like a dress one would love as a seven year old.

My worst dress has always been Dianas
Thanks for pointing that out. I had no idea what was wrong with her bodice. 😂

She can make a girgeous, expensive dress
Look like she bought it off the rack at Walmart.
This is an abject lesson in the difference between American crass and British class !
What about Princess Angela of Lichenstein.
The richest small country in all of Europe. Definently a faux pas on your be hafe!😢
A designer and most beautiful wedding dress.
Do check her out and include hrr.
I liked Queen Mary’s wedding dress. It seemed to highlight the beautiful veil and tiara. And she’s so gorgeous.
Also liked the bow Viktor and Rolf wedding dress. Very original .
The fact you can't pronounce Givenchy tells everyone you have no place critiquing anyone's style.
What a perfectly DREADFUL video. The narration was garbled, repetitive and dull, the pictures seem not to be relevant to the dresses under discussion, leaping from one to another.
Some of the wedding dresses that are shown on UA-cam Shorts are beautiful.
Megan's dress was the worst
Meghan!!!!
So who is the expert to make such disparaging, tasteless opinionated comments?
People who understand design, context, couture. This vid is ignorant in the extreme. It contradicts itself consistently
What was the price of some of these dresses?
Probably not released to the public for various reasons.
Way too much. One was $4million dolkars.
Worst dress was the dress of Diana, Sophie of Edinburgh and the worst of the worst the second wedding dress of rajwa of Jordania
Ergo, you can never please all people! 😂
Dianas Dress still wins the "Uggliest Dres Ever" award!
I was 14teen at the time, and thought she locked like she had been stuffed into a cream cake!
My favourite was Princess Anne's wedding dress.Sarah Ferguson's dress was lovely except for the big bow on the back.
Why on earth have you chosen to criticise some of the MOST beautiful Royal wedding dresses? The only one which was actually underwhelming was that worn by Ms Markle. It very obviously required further fitting appointments. A good vendeuse can be every lady's greatest ally... Ms Markle rather desperately needs to find one, and soon!
I thought Serena Armstrong-Jones' dress looked like she was wearing a jacket (blazer) over her dress. If the bodice had been sewn into the dress instead of having panels draped over the skirt, it would have looked better.
It was almost identical,to her mother in law, Princess Margaret. Who had the same design.
@@Kate-lk6tw Princess Margaret's dress didn't have the extra panels over the skirt, and on her dress the bodice and skirt were the same fabric. Serena Armstrong-Jones' dress didn't look like one cohesive dress. Yes, some details were a tribute to Princess Margaret's dress, but overall, it looked like a separate skirt and jacket which didn't belong together.
I liked Meghan's dress. It was elegant without being overpowering. The focus was on the veil, which was stunning.
As for it not fitting, considering all the garbage she was put through during the preparations, it isn't surprising that she would lose weight.
What do you know about fashio?
Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones wore THE most beautiful royal wedding dress. Followed closely by (& much to my surprise; but you know, credit where it’s due!) Princess Eugenie & Princess Beatrice. These 3 rocked the assignment. I also absolutely love Queen Mary of Denmark dress too. She was divine, so elegant.
