  • Riding the Devil's staircase from Abergwesyn to Tregaron, through the Cambrian Mountains on an old drovers track. There are some tight 1st gear switchbacks with gradients of up to 25% making it quite challenging in the wet, which it usually is! Hope you enjoy the ride. Starting point postcode is LD5 4TR and the finishing point what3words is liquids.rebel.sorry
I also rode it back the other way in driving rain, which I may put up if the footage is ok.

The road past Llyn Brianne to Llandovery (to the left where you saw the "nature reserve" sign) is another terrific bit of road, then you can take a break at the West End Café or the Owl's Nest Diner and continue over the Black Mountain Road (A4069 - the "Top Gear road").

I'm gonna have to go back! Thanks, so we thought the devil's staircase was the top gear road at 1st. We did go to the owls nest the day before but it was shut unfortunately, but went to the west end cafe instead. We rode a stunning road the day before with friends but I think it was the a 40 through sennybridge. I've yet to edit that footage as there's so much of it. You're blessed with gorgeous roads/scenery out there. 👍

@@richgillard8658 Yeah, I'll do that next time. Not sure why we thought it was the devil staircase road. I think we may have done it last year but we usually go to Wales every year.

Nice video , well done. I have done the Devils Staircase on a warm dry day and can say whatever speed you think is safe, halve it and hope the 4x4 approaching does the same. Woodlands Cafe for nice tea and cakes.

Many thanks. Yeah, there were a couple of times early on when I felt the need to hoot, to make sure there was nothing coming! And a couple of times when I relaxed to much and scared myself! Once I got to Tregaron, it really started raining so I had to do it in reverse in horrible weather. Ironically, the next day, glorious sunshine! Thanks for your comment.

The only ride I’ve ridden where there’s a steep hill and at the bottom a cattle grid with a sharp left, interesting in the wet

Yeah, all good fun mate. Check out my other video, where I do it in reverse. In the wet! Absolutely chucked it down!

Excellent video. Just wondering as you mentioned carrying spare tubes, have you ever had to fix a puncture on the Scram at the road ride? How difficult is it to get the wheel off, tube out etc? Cheers

Hi Andy. Thanks. No, not had to yet. I had to once on the bullet at the side of the road which wasn't too dreadful. Not sure about the scram. I would think taking the wheels off would be easy but changing the rear tube might be a pain. I put a centre stand on before I left, in case I had to. I also have goop in the tyres which some people swear by. I also have a bottle of tyre weld that I would try before getting the wheels off! I did have a moment after the battery ran out where I went over something and I heard an awful noise and was waiting for a tyre to deflate, but fortunately it never did!

Hi Dave. I don't know that anyone said it's a hard road. 🤷‍♂️ And personally I don't ride roads because they're hard or easy, I just ride to enjoy them and the scenery. Happy riding mate.
