12:35 There were samurai "sabatons", known as kogake. They were inserted into the waraji sandals and tied in place. However, they were considered a piece of auxiliary armor, not main armor, much like the kikko gane do/manchira (coat of plates/brigandine) sometimes worn underneath the do/cuirass.
With Iron Mountain Armory's kogake, apparently the butted mail doesn't hold together well after much usage, since your feet, which of course move frequently, work them loose over a period of time.

I must say, I am working towards a pair of Shimazu Clan Samurai armor. And this helped me a lot. I was about to go Taisho, but now I know that the only real difference is that the helmet is crafted differently. Thanks, this saved me 550$.

I wouldn't waste my money on a lower quality suit. Save up just a bit longer and get the best.

I’ve been looking at this same armor. Are the laces on yours red or crimson? They look great!

The Kanji for you left suneate ' shin guard ' mean mizu = water. I guess your armor follows water. These small detains will often represent you rank/clan and many other things. They sometimes involve stuff based on Ying and yang

Fantastic review. Please note that under the lacing (below the chest armor) the haidate (apron / thigh guard) is worn. This ties around your waist and hangs down. It is crafted from cotton, leather and iron. So if a weapon strikes just below you chest armor (Do), the cotton lace, cotton material, leather and silk will help absorb the strike. There are different styles of haidate which offer different levels of protection. There is no iron in this mid-section so you are able to bend, roll and turn with ease.
As for the shin guards, we now offer 4 different styles which offer 4 different levels or protection, comfort and look. 3 of which have soft knee armor so kneeling down is not an issue.

what does each character say? I believe one says water

Head center is void, other "ear guards" are Shiro. Arms are Fire and Air/Wind. Legs are water and earth. They represent the 5 Rings in Musashi's book. Other then Shiro, that is just a nickname.
