Your reviews are so good the whole cabinet is awesome in a way better then my arcade
Thanks for your continued support, MinerTom! New Wave Toys does it up right - that's for sure!
Excellent review, these Replicade cabinets are so nice and it’s encouraging to see that they went above above and beyond with that firmware update. I’m seriously thinking about getting their 1942 cab when it releases. I recently got the Bubble Bobble 1/4 scale arcade cab from Numskull and it’s fantastic.
Thanks for the kind words, Monitor1CC. I've got my eye on those Numskull cabs, but I just haven't been able to pull the trigger yet. By all accounts they're on par with the New Wave Toys offerings.
Nice video. First of yours I've seen. So, I have an actual full-size Asteroids. But I'm such a fan that I'm thinking of buying one of these little units on the secondary market anyway. As for the Firmware update, you kinda breeze over it in your video, we lose the pause feature if we update? I realize, the '79 original had no such feature, but it was a welcome addition. Shame they didn't (or couldn't?) keep it. Lastly, I reckon the folks at New Wave Toys were trying to mimic the brightness of the missiles when they made them larger, no? The small missiles, while more accurate, aren't near bright enough. Suppose I'd better hang onto my original until they address that 😛
Thanks for watching, Dave. I hope you'll subscribe and stick around. 😊
if you're gonna play asteroids, small bullets are essential in your ship's arsenal.
You can fit more in the cargo hold that way.
About 10 years ago, I bought a handheld that ran emulators of all kinds. Playing Asteroids on it was near impossible because the shots were so tiny, they were pretty much invisible. Hard to adjust your aim when you can't see where to adjust from. So when I saw New Wave Toys actually thought about that and had a solution, I thought it was brilliant. The thing is, the screen on these units are so good, there was no need for the big bullets. So even though I was an advocate of the big bullets, I don't use 'em. No need. Also, I'm glad they took this opportunity to fix the frame rate. The random stuttering was really killing the enjoyment for me. I just wish the buttons didn't require so much pressure.
Agreed, Allen. I'm perfectly happy with the small (read: correct) sized missiles because the NWT screens are so crisp & clear. I didn't find the buttons to require too much pressure. I wonder if a little graphite would help yours out?
Hello Jon it’s your buddy Jayden
Hey
They’re sold out on their site, will they be up for sale again?
I mention that in the video and suggest where to find one. Did you watch to the end?
@@GenXGrownUp I didn’t get to the end. I’ll finish it. Thank you.
hi and you will have a review of bubble bobble mini arcade
Yes please GenX
Thanks for the suggestion/request. I just recently picked that one up, so I'll see when I can schedule it for production. 😊
@@GenXGrownUp Thank you for your answer and cool videos.
This is so cool. Asteroids is one of my favourites
Then this should be on your wish list, Ethan. 😊
Yup!!
Have this one and love it.Patiently Waiting for 1943 and token machines preorder , and preordered the QBert as soon as I received the announcement mailer. May have a problem lol. Love your reviews and videos.
1943 is starting to roll out, and Q*Bert? Are you kidding me? OF COURSE I ordered one of those! 😊
Asteroids Arcade (rom update/"overhaul edition") did had larger bullets but not as large on the Replicade. The first release 1979 Asteroids had the small bullets.
🪨🔫
Great review, thinking about purchasing one
Are Replicade cabinets hackable like all the other companies? Doesn’t look likely but I’ve been surprised before.
Everything is hackable. It just depends on how much work you want to do. 😉
Thank you.. they are now on my radar thanks to you.. I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for posting!
Indeed! Thank you for watching, Alex.
When will you be doing the Arcade1up Pac-Man Partycade 8 - in - 1?
When I can squeeze it in. It's still in the box!
nice. but they should have added a little glow, and motion blur
to emulate the vector effects better.
not a big fan of asteroids. i have plenty of versions of it.
nice detail on the cabinet as usual though.

MAME has all sort of persistence-of-vision options for vector games, which I quite enjoy using. That's really the only way I can see to improve upon this firmware: adding an option for visual decay to even better simulate those old vector monitors.
Super cool! I need to start collecting these! Love the new background for the videos!
Thanks, Aaron. I like to get out of the house every now & then. So why not shoot someplace scenic, right?
I just bought this. I can't wait for it to arrive! I already got the new firmware downloaded and ready to install. I like how it includes the original firmware in case you want to go back for whatever reason.
If you're an Asteroids fan, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
@@GenXGrownUp I got it in the mail today. I'm absolutely in love with this thing. If only there were other good portable versions of Asteroids aside from the Micro Arcade release. Who knows? Maybe there's some hidden gems out there.
@@sleekflash16 Haven't spotted one yet. You probably saw my comparison of the Tiny/Classics ones. If I see a better version I'll let you know!
It looks like the Arcade Atari Astroids
Can I update the Firmware on my Replicade Asteroids Machine using my Mac? I do not have a windows computer. Thank You
Sadly no. I just contacted them about this same question after finding no solid info onlinr and they confirmed no.
No, it must be a Windows 10 PC. The entire process from download to completion will be about 10 minutes, so just call on a friend with a Windows machine to assist.
@@GenXGrownUp How about with an Acer Chromebook, will that do it too?
I wish they would cut the size of the replicate units in half / & make the joysticks & buttons a little bit bigger / it think it would be better this way because it would be cheaper & they would sell faster & would be more of them / the buttons for this unit are pretty small & it / it would have been better there were a little bit bigger / & it has no joystick / really the size if these units / I don’t know if it’s just me but it’s kind of uncomfortable to play /
Selling faster doesn't seem to be a problem for New Wave's Replicade devices: they usually sell out almost immediately. Shrinking the unit and making the controls bigger would just shove it into the same bucket as the My Arcade & Basic Fun units but at a higher price. I think they've already found a pretty sweet spot for the market, so I doubt they'll be changing it up very radically in the near future.
@@GenXGrownUp / well i hope they do change the size of them & make them smaller because i only own 2 of them because of the price tag /
@@jayjayshowcaser5859 There are other companies out there that make smaller, less expensive units, and they also have bigger controls. I prefer the Replicades and Numskull Quarter Arcades because they try to be as true to the arcade cabinets as possible while still being playable.
I just came back and got my own My Arcade Pac-Man machine from Target.
👍
I was disappointed they didn't make the vector graphics play better though. Big mode still is choppy but ohh well still cool machine
Still choppy? I didn't experience that, but in fairness I only played for a couple hours after the update.
@@GenXGrownUp in big mode watch one asteroid move it's jittery. Not awful but kinda annoying
Unbelievable that in the year 2021 this company can’t be bothered to make a firmware updater for Mac.
It's not so unbelievable. In 2021, Mac only represents about 15% of the computer market. And users aren't required to own a Windows machine; only need 10 minutes of access to one. Hopefully you have at least one friend with a PC.
@@GenXGrownUp *really!* The way the Mac forums and things like that talk you'd think Mac would be large and in charge. The more you know.
