"Cowboy" just used to formally refer to cattle drivers, but colloquially to basically every man who lived in the Western frontier of the United States in the 1800s (especially the second half of the 1800s). Much as I enjoy some good pedantry, it's only truly acceptable if it doesn't come from missing the clear point of the discussion.
I'd like to point out that Eriko, because she doesn't feel fear, has the special ability to immediately get back up whenever she get's knocked down or surprised from an enemy encounter. However, for the final battle in the true ending, she falls down at the very start and won't get back up just like the other characters, showing how terrified she was. Another thing to note, that I'd hope you point out, is that so far every npc has been shown/implied to be a dummy, the zombies in Killerman are unkillable, on top of that, you never once actually go through the attraction, you're behind the scenes for the entire level. Those were actual real zombies. Really glad you decided to cover the game, Nitro Rad! This was one of the game I was hoping you'd cover! It quickly became one of my favorite games of all time.
This is also why Eriko (unfortunately) has an _enormous_ advantage over all other characters (James aludes to this when he talks about how Kevin "falls down and crawls around like a goo-goo gaa-gaa baby" whenever he gets into a fight). While tagging a fight alleviates this somewhat, it still makes everyone besides Eriko absolutely terrible in the game's combat encounters.
worth noting, there is one OTHER little detail to Brainless Randy: if you have him for the killerman level all of his lines will be replaced with him screaming gibberish.... but all of the characters in that level will still respond to him like he was talking normally.
Fun fact since I'm here from the uncensored version: There is actually one level in the whole game where it reuses traps from other locations. It's the Killerman level and each trap is in storage so if you happen to remember the traps from the other areas then the level becomes easier.

The Erole magazine DOES have an use! A very situational one, but if you're bleeding a LOT, your heartrate will start to drop. You can die if it's too low too, but the Erole magazine has pushed me through long enough to get enough bleed recovery items to stabilize my heart rate before. Like, twice, but that's twice more than I expected a boost in heart rate to help. Also Eriko has a perk that the others need to upgrade to: you need to tag encounters with the others so they don't fall down. Yes, Eriko's lack of fear makes her unable to be panicked at the start of fights, in one of the various story and gameplay integration quirks. Also x2: you do know you can complete levels "out of order", right? If you want to take Jorg everywhere else, just go to Killerman first! You're absolutely not forced to go to the theatres in any fixed order. (There's even an active debate in the community about which theatre to recommend first, usually with Homerun of Death and Cork Goes To Hell as the top choices.)

I cannot tell you enough on how thankful I am for you covering this game, Nitro Rad. I have been telling every soul for years about what a unique gem this game really is and how it's criminally overlooked so I am beyond happy to see a big name giving it the coverage it deserves. To anyone reading this who loves the genre of horror, play this game. I cannot tell if this game is genius or so stupid that it becomes genius.
Sadly, the rights went literately into the grave as Shinya Nishigaki, the same dev of D and D2, wanted to protect his original vision. This dev infamously burned the bridge with PlayStation by presenting this game during a live event by having the PlayStation logo... which faded slowly into the Dreamcast logo. The biggest middle finger the dev has ever done in their life. Takes guts to do what Shinya Nishigaki did which cannot be done in the industry today.
It's a shame we never got to see how an Illbleed 2 would of panned out, since I think I remember reading about it being a possibility. Either way it is quite an experience...
I always loved this game. I used to play Illbleed frequently, and I tended to play Blue Stinger every Christmas. Sadly, my dreamcast died. I picked up Illbleed for like five bucks before the Retro Market really got expensive. Got so many nice Dreamcast and Saturn games cheap back then.
No joke, I would LOVE to make a survival-horror game like this... something where you have to go through a theme park, or movie studio! Dodging, or fighting random encounters against the attraction monsters! All to a theme that's way more "Army of Darkness" then trying to be deadly-serious! You fighting frog-mutants that worship demons, maybe we don't add a "HuMaNs ArE tHe ReAl MoNsTeRs" speach... Actually...
Well with all the gore it isn’t too surprising that UA-cam would get involved. Everyone deserves to see how cool this game is so it sucks that it got age restricted
Hey, if you still take game suggestions, I recommend trying out YIIK: A Post Modern Rpg. It's not a good game, but it's one that so interesting to analyze on how it's good ideas are executed so poorly. Also, it's getting a major game overhaul by the end of the year. It's definitely a surreal type of RPG, that you say you're interested in, and is heavily inspired by Earthbound and Persona. Please try it out, I wanna see what you think about it.
Thanks for reviewing ILLBLEED @Nitro Rad. I played this game when my Dreamcast still worked, but sadly it got burnt out and I had to sell all of my Dreamcast games. Really enjoyed it and Eriko became my favorite character, but it did take a while to get use to the gameplay mechanics.
Man, imagine if there was a UA-cam app only for kids, then nobody would have to stress out altering their content by making it child-friendly until it meets strict yet vague guidelines (while they lose the lion's share of the ad money)
i have never seen this channel before but as i scrolled down through videos i saw the name "ILLBLEED" and a half dozen very confused nights in my youth came rushing back like a ton of bricks
There is a tiny benefit to playing the other characters; each one has double range in a single sense type and half range in another. Kevin has double range Hearing, but half range Smell. Michelle has double range Sixth Sense, but half range Sight (she says that she is psychic in the intro cutscene.) Randy has double range Smell, but half range Sixth Sense (because he's the dumb one, get it? Hurr hurr.) Jorg, though you only get to play as him in two rooms, has double range Sight and half range Hearing, because reporter, I guess? Eriko has normal range on all senses and since the game throws a variety of all sense type traps at you, the differing stats don't really do much.
Damn this really sucks. Honestly considering giving it a complete rewatch, the video was just SO good. Plus hopefully my UA-cam premium will help you keep up some of the cash
Coming back after playing this: It's kinda weird, I didn't find the Lumberjack chaser sequence that bad, I managed through it pretty well, and without the pause buffering glitch, but then Mary's rooms gave me utter hell - not because she was harder to dodge, but because there was no real way to cure my heart rate. I had a loooot of shock deaths in that chapter. goddamn.
A vocal group of gamers always say they're tired of "triple a trash" but whenever something truly unique comes out it almost always flops, barring a few notable exceptions. It's a real shame that we're most likely never going to see a modern port if I'll Illbleed, but it is what it is.
Man, that Woodpuppet level is iconic to me because of the beginning where a Woodcutter animatronic sings about cutting trees and gets merc'd by one of the evil tree's roots. Love it.
When I first heard tell of this game, I thought the Sonic parody was the main villain, as he was the only thing I ever saw in thumbnails of the game. I was surprised to find out he only appears as the boss of one level.
43:11 you probably noticed already but there's a lot of callbacks to Blue Stinger in this, Dogs is a playable character, Hassy is the Coke/Pepsi of both worlds etc. Thanks for calling me out btw, I know she's goofy and clunky as hell but this truly is my favorite game of all time.
I played the Japanese version of this on the Dreamcast back when I was a teenager. I'd take turn with my friends and see who could get past some levels. It was such a cool and quirky title. I doubt it would ever get any remaster love, but it'd be fun to play it again with some graphics and quality of life improvements.

Gotta say, that was kinda interesting! I thought the sonic parody was the actual villain of the game, considering how much i've seen with him in regards to this game, so i was a bit disappointed to see he was only a boss for one level. Guess the main concept was interesting, but the endings felt a lil lackluster. On a different note, I actually recognized Eriko's va not from Rouge, but from the Nancy Drew games as Nancy! I am weirdly loving the clip of you saying "I'm gettin' away cuz ThEy CaN't MoVe!" while wiggling away and furiously tapping buttons on the controller. XD
I was wondering why Nitro was covering a horror sonic fangame but then I clicked on the video and realized that isn't sonic in the thumbnail at all and this is something completely different
Hope this stays up because this is one of your best vids in a while, never knew this game had so much depth.
That final chapter of Illbleed felt like a fever dream, I have no idea what I watched but it was interesting to say the least
You really captured how confused and vulnerable you are in the first part of the game!! (If you don't read those off-beaten hints lol)
Finally, a version of this video the kiddies can watch .
50:58 OH SHIT, the Zeeky Boogy Doog bomb from the Demented Cartoon Movie! Hot damn, that's nostalgic.
sucks you had to re-upload this, i hope it doesn't get restricted this time. it's one of my favourite videos of yours.
36:32 UA-cam Pooping in the middle of a segment, takes big humor & skills!
47:23 This has the same energy as "a kilogram of steel is the same as a kilogram of feathers"
This is my favorite game of all time. It made me so happy to see this video pop up in my notifs, I hope more people get to experience its weirdness.
Weird twist - it wasn't the blood.
It was actually the nudity and the character SexyDoll.
I always made my UA-cam as adult age even in my teens doesn’t every 1 do that?
The fact that there’s a censored and uncensored version of this review shows that this guy puts effort into his craft.
I can't get over how that voice actress is clearly the one who did Nancy Drew for years. Like, her voice is just too iconic, I can only hear Nancy 😂
Over an hour of Illbleed? Yes, please
46:35 love the hotel dusk ost during the murder mystery section
This was a treat to watch. Hopefully it gets picked up by the algorithm.
HASSY spotted @14:01, coming from the Blue Stinger video seeing this gave me a shot of dopamine
this game really makes me think of gregory horror show with its tone!
The PS2 game would be great material for a Halloween game review for next year.
@@Hylianguy38 exactly!!! maybe not scary enough for james but it is incredibly charming to make up for it~
its crazy i didnt even see the uncensored version in my subscription notifications
Already watch the original, but I prefer rewatching it to show some support ! keep up the good work !
i have never seen this channel before but as i scrolled down through videos i saw the name "ILLBLEED" and a half dozen very confused nights in my youth came rushing back like a ton of bricks
rewatching this to please the algorithm 🦔🦔🦔
Theres a certain charm Dreamcast games had and especially late 90’s to early 2000’s horror games with there atmosphere
Damn, UA-cam being the puritans that they are
There is a tiny benefit to playing the other characters; each one has double range in a single sense type and half range in another.
Kevin has double range Hearing, but half range Smell.
Michelle has double range Sixth Sense, but half range Sight (she says that she is psychic in the intro cutscene.)
Randy has double range Smell, but half range Sixth Sense (because he's the dumb one, get it? Hurr hurr.)
Jorg, though you only get to play as him in two rooms, has double range Sight and half range Hearing, because reporter, I guess?
I had a loooot of shock deaths in that chapter. goddamn.
Glad I got to watch the uncensored version before it got taken down. Sorry you had to do that man, UA-cam just hates fun.
Thank you for documenting this absolutely wild game.
I'm guessing this is because of "Sexy-doll" huh?
A vocal group of gamers always say they're tired of "triple a trash" but whenever something truly unique comes out it almost always flops, barring a few notable exceptions. It's a real shame that we're most likely never going to see a modern port if I'll Illbleed, but it is what it is.
Thought it was a little weird that the main character was censored initially during the new game plus playthrough but then she wasn't later on.
Man, that Woodpuppet level is iconic to me because of the beginning where a Woodcutter animatronic sings about cutting trees and gets merc'd by one of the evil tree's roots. Love it.
No more polytittties?😢
When I first heard tell of this game, I thought the Sonic parody was the main villain, as he was the only thing I ever saw in thumbnails of the game. I was surprised to find out he only appears as the boss of one level.
This looks like such a fun game to play, but I find it highly unlikely I'll ever get to.
"crap my pants" and "piss my pants" had me in shambles 🤣
43:11 you probably noticed already but there's a lot of callbacks to Blue Stinger in this, Dogs is a playable character, Hassy is the Coke/Pepsi of both worlds etc.
Thanks for calling me out btw, I know she's goofy and clunky as hell but this truly is my favorite game of all time.
I did not come in expecting X-rated Ghost Stories Dub, but I am not disappointed.
I played the Japanese version of this on the Dreamcast back when I was a teenager. I'd take turn with my friends and see who could get past some levels. It was such a cool and quirky title. I doubt it would ever get any remaster love, but it'd be fun to play it again with some graphics and quality of life improvements.
I feel special for being able to watch the exclusive uncensored version before it was taken down. Now I get to listen to the censored version like a podcast while I do my routine
It's not taken down
Typing of the dead ia awesome. I love that your typing gun is actually in the story XD
I've owned Illbleed for a very long time, I have not finished it.
Well this has been memory lane XD I bought Blue Stinger with my Dreamcast long ago, a few weeks after they announced they weren't supporting it anymore.
Absolutely LOVE this review. Stellar video, fella. One of your best. The uniqueness of the game helps for sure, but you knocked this one out of the park.
Randy's name was on Puppetman's film poster.
Crazy how expensive these games are getting. Bought my copy of this at circuit city for like $20 back in the day. Still have it too.
I have never heard of this game before today, so thank you for being dedicated enough to reedit and reupload this video so that everyone could enjoy it
This might be my favorite review of you yet! A really interesting game and you analyzed it's ups & downs in a very entertaining way. The hour flew by fast
The concept behind this game is awesome and really interesting
Man the DC Sonic voice cast is absolute SOUL. Holy crap.
Glad you kept the original up at least, such a good review.
Thanks James For Looking Out For The Rest Of Us Who Couldn't Watch This Wonderful Video And I Saw The Uncensored Verison And I'm Glad Other People Get To Still See The Video Even If It's Censored.
Was pretty surprised to hear her voice in another game aside from that one, and to find out she even played Rouge!
Hello fellow Nancy Drew fan! *awkwardly high fives you*
I love the madotsuki plush in the background, I want that so much
These outros keep getting more and more unhinged.
Love to see it. :)
