Good job. One always benefits when the teacher is sincere and humble. Thanks for having the sense and discipline to keep Christian thoughts and interpretations out of it. ☺

There is no mention of Buddha either in Geetha or in Mahabharata. Therefore, these predate Buddhisim by several centuries. Buddhist teachings have been influenced a great deal by Vedanta.

Excellent Mam. To my understanding, Bhagavad Gita is the infinite ocean of knowledge of the universe. E=MC2. An atom equals the universe. Atma (Individual soul) equals Param-atma(cosmic soul). Soul is divine. Soul is the eternal life force, infinite energy, which can’t be created nor it can be destroyed, neither born nor died. Any form of body/matter is nothing but manifestation of this inner soul/energy. I decode the B.G like this - 2 opposite forces or negative & positive (duality) interact in the phenomenal world and harmonious equilibrium or system is established as Cosmic Dharma. When applied in human, the Negative is portrayed as Duryadhona (greed, lust, anger, Pride/ego). Positive - portrayed as Arjuna (truth seeker). Both r the two characters of human mind. The chariot is human body. 5 horses r 5 sense organs, Human mind functions through 5 sense organs. Lord Krishna, the Charioteer, is the Soul, the divinity which is non-dual. How the Divine Soul/Krishna enlightens the embarrassed Arjun in the field of attraction (battle) is what BG unfolds. Positive mind is friendly with soul. It respects n listens to the Soul. Negative mind is the enemy. It does not respect the soul, thus leads to hell. Time, space n causation/Law of Karma r the conditions of the phenomenal universe. The pure consciousness force of the universe (soul/Lord Krishna/Non-dual energy), which is the supreme energy is beyond time, space n causation. But the phenomenal universe (being manifested) is governed by Law of karma. Newton’s 3rd Law is d direct outcome of Law of Karma. Lord Krishna (the Personified Universal Force) is the silent observer and He rules everything through Law of karma, which is His principle. The force of material desire (attractive force of matters) is so strong that Arjun even fails to control his mind in d field of attraction/desires (kurukhetra). He got embarrassed to see his beloved ones. That means- he was swayed by the negative force despite his wisdom. The Lord Krishna (Soul) throws light of truth, Pure Consciousness Force to Arjuna.
Law of Karma is the basis in this illusive/Maya (Temporary) phenomenal universe, which is unreal. The ultimate reality is the individual/cosmic soul (the Lord who is the Personified Universe). To connect with this Supreme Being/Supreme Energy through various Yogic process alone gives everlasting bliss, happiness, peace in life and in the process, perfection is attained and His being everywhere and in everything is revealed. .
Among the different paths to spiritual enlightenment, Bhakti Yoga (love, devotion n surrender) is the most effective path to spiritual seekers. Freedom N liberty is everybody’s right. We are free to choose any path. However, seeking the truth inward is d only way for experiencing the Absolute.

Starting the video I actually thought this was gonna be a nice video of a westerner actually understanding Bhagavad Gita but nope I couldn't be more wrong.
Any and every Indian Sanatan Dharma text predates any and every religion known today.
And it is not just that simple.

I read that if one is to understand Buddhism better, the most important text to study is the Vedas. Is this correct?

Caryn D Prescott vedas and bhagwad gita do not belong to buddhism. It belongs to hinduism. Buddhism is a smaller part or branch of sanathan dharma.

Bhagwad Geeta is summary of Upnishad, Upnishad is summary of Veda...

She struggles to package Bhagwat Geetha in Buddhist ideology which is a bad attempt at appropriation. Gita is at least 5000 plus years old.

No, she didn't try to package Bhagavad Gita in Buddhist ideology, she merely noted there are some similarities which is inevitable since Gautama had steeped himself in Hindi teachings but finding them outdated and impractical, improved upon them and this was his enlightenment

Buddha is nothing to do with Hinduism and Bhagavadgita. He manipulated hinduism and started of his own. Have a clarity.

Here's some clarity: Gautama tried all the Hindi teachings and found them lacking and therefore developed Buddhism
