I have not read the over 80 comments as it is not practical. I did my B. Tech and M.Tech from IIT, Kharagpur. I was also on the faculty for 6-1/2 years. I also taught for 30 years in California community colleges, besides working for 16 years as a manufacturing engineer in California’s automobile and electronics industries. I also am MS from University of California, Berkeley. There is undoubtedly a lot of stress. There are many aspects. I will just discuss the following. IITs, like most universities lays a great deal of emphasis on research by the faculty. It may be that faculty pressure students to do research. Recently Prof. Sen was suspended as at IIT Madras a Ph. D student committed suicide. It is likely that as in India there is an over supply of engineers than job opportunities, people go for higher degrees and may not be making choices of the field suited to them. Further, faculty are hired and promoted on the research they do. It is quite common that those good at research are NOT good at teaching. While at IIT Kharagpur, I had a discussion with a colleague about this. He was a Ph. D from the University of Glasgow. He said that in Britain there are separate people who do research and others who teach. Sometimes the former teach. I recently saw an advertisement from University of California at Berkeley where there was a job for faculty to teach. Further, at IIT Kharagpur some teachers would give lectures that have material not in the prescribed text book. When asked about the source they would say that knowledge is vast. Later on sometimes I found the source. On my part, I used the following practices. I would first explain what I had to teach. In my days at Kharagpur there was no xerox. So I would dictate a summary of the lecture as no xerox was there. This enabled students to review and prepare for the examination. Also have concerned books on reserve in the library so that they can study. I did this in India and USA. Another feature was to open every meeting with a statement asking the students if they have any questions from what has been discussed so far. The last practice I used in India and USA. Another approach that I used was to indicate what pages of the prescribed book they should read before the next meeting. My father told me to read before going to and again on the same day after the class. In Pune I was in school where out of print books were prescribed. In USA, the books are expensive. Often there are not major differences between the older and the latest editions. The former can be bought less expensively from used book dealers on the Internet. I arranged my material so that both the editions worked. In USA, xerox facilities are good.Faculty can make multiple copies. Also colleges have publication sections who will prepare multiple copies of what faculty wants to present. Also, I gave comprehensive instructions for assignments. As a faculty with good industrial experience, one can bring realism in teaching. Compared to this the the researchers think on a high plane, which is flies over the heads of the students, where as often the bulk of students are at the under-graduate level. Another area where where a major reform is needed is this. In India a student has to take all the subjects together in a term. Compared to this in USA one can take fewer subjects in a term, though it take’s longer to complete the degree requirements. IIT Kharagpur was patterned on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology., but not on taking fewer subjects. It is up to the All India Council of Technical Education, the Association of Principals of Technical Institutions, the concerned Union Ministry to make this fundamental reform.
@@vivek3693 I am pursuing btech CSE at NIT Calicut ( top 5 NIT). I agree getting into it is very difficult. Looks like a lot has changed at IITs. In the late 70s, life at IIT as an undergraduate was fun, a good balance of studying and other activities. I think I spent more time playing bridge than studying and grades were not bad - just above average.

Brothers and Sisters, God loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ for us to save us from our sins, and he bled and died on a cross for us to redeem us from death, and to gain life everlasting, for those who put their trust in him. And what's more, he has risen, and is willing to call you to repentance (correction) and as his witness, by his grace indeed. "For it is by grace you are saved, through faith".
