Y’all have been killing it with the movie choices lately
Making up for past mistakes.
@@tempsitch5632 Pray tell, more.
@@tempsitch5632 past mistakes? Lol
Such an underrated movie. So glade you guys reacted to it. Thank you for sharing it with us. Thank you.
@@APC3370 Look up definition of “underrated”.
If nobody's mentioned it before, Tom Hanks received his first Academy Award nomination for best actor for this movie, and deservedly so.
Another fantastic Tom Hanks movie and one of my personal faves is The Burbs.
I couldn't agree more, he played the childish aspect so well it was believable
@@OctoKrool the garbage pail kids movie it’s terrible 🎉
@@only257 But it's something that has to be watched at least once!
he owned the 80's and 90's.
Tell them to poll Idiocracy pls
This movie reminds me of an innocent, naivety that we all had once as kids; way before the seriousness of life crept up on us and eventually made us forget what a childhood used to be like :)
Well said
Exactly!
and every once in a while i sit and think about those simple times. and ironically i wish for a Zoltar machine to make me young again.
Exactly! I often times wish to go back to those innocent more magical and fun days!
@@Lunangel We all do :) It was nice as a child that the only things that mattered was I wonder what's for dinner and what time do I have to be home by and nothing else. No debt, no mortgage, no job, no 401k. It was bliss.
I think Robert Loggia's role in this film is underappreciated. He's not only Hanks' boss, but also a friend and an ally in a world where Hanks' character is basically all alone. The character Loggia plays is also very likeable.
Loggia played a similar role in Opportunity Knocks a couple years later.
He was also good, although in basically a cameo role, in An Officer and a Gentleman, for which Lou Gossett won a very well-deserved Oscar.
He was the bomb In tim and eric's billion dollar movie
Only Tom Hanks could have pulled this off so believably. Other actors would have either been too cartoony or too creepy. His innocence saved the day. Also so many layers of social commentary subtly addressed as well. A classic, thanks for doing it!
Robin Williams wouldn't have been bad in the role. Maybe Jim Carrey.
@@ckobo84
Strongly disagree with both choices. I love Robin Williams but have you seen “Jack”? Child with a disorder that makes him age faster. It doesn’t work…
Jim Carrey is hilarious, but I don’t think he could pull it off either.
they are great actors but Hanks has the innocence to pull it off.
Loved Hanks' rejection of the caviar! That's precisely how a kid would react to eating something that disgusts him!
@@AlastorsShadowDemon It depends on how well-written the movie is.
You’re gonna need kleenex boxes for this one. I couldn’t stop crying. It was a great movie experience on the big screen. I saw BIG in the theater when I was 20 in 1988.
Tom Hanks performance amazing and enchanting. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Penny Marshall brilliant directing. R.I.P. Penny. What a gift you had in acting & directing.
Flash-forward to now, a lot of adult men have rooms that look like Josh's did, full of toys they bought as adults because they aren't really marketed to kids anymore.
It's interesting how you pointed out the subject matter could be done too comedic or childish in another movie. "Big" came at the tail end of a trend of body-swapping movies. "Like Father, Like Son" and "Vice Versa" preceded it, along the lines of "Freaky Friday," but "Big" had a more heartfelt tone and without switching bodies with someone else. It was the "bigger" hit movie by far. From what I understand, the next most popular movie like that would be "13 Going On 30" a generation later.
whenever people ask me how old I am I say "I'm ten. I just haven't found another Zoltar machine yet." Most don't get it, others laugh but still don't get it.
You guys are awesome! Now you need to watch Splash, one of Tom Hanks first movies. Its definitely worth a watch. It also stars John Candy and Eugene Levy. I think the writing in it, is right in tune with your kind of humor.
I hope they watch Splash it's so great and funny
The cool thing about Josh’s relationship with Susan is that she brought out the potential adult in him, but he got her back in touch with the young girl she used to be. That’s how she was able to loosen up and have fun. When she says something to him about not wanting to re-live those years, even so, she realizes that he doesn’t have those memories of going through the teen years. And it’s necessary, in order to have a real adult life. Just a much better movie than anyone expected.
It’s funny, I told an old friend who’s older than me, imagine going back to high school for say a week and seeing how we would do as freshman, including having a back pack, taking the bus. It’d be interesting.
One of my favorite bits is when Tom Hanks gets in the fight on the racketball court. His moves and actions in the fight are EXACTLY what kind that age would do. The duck the head under, and switching the ball from one hand to the other. Hanks just nailed the kid part there
Tom Hanks is so good in this and believable as a kid. Mrs. Baskin is played by Mercedes Ruehl who won an academy award for her role in The Fisher King (1991), another movie very much worth watching.
I second that The Fisher King is an underrated classic Jeff Brides and Robin Williams are gold in that film 👌🏻
She was also in the warriors
A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story. Loved (and hated) her in that.
Yes! The Fisher King is one of my favorites. Also Robin Williams won a Golden Globe for his performance.
Thank you for not harping too much about the "He's only 13 and he slept with an older woman" thing that most other reactors did. He just wanted to be "bigger" and when he became "older" instead, he ran with it. He may still have had a 13 year old mind but he was a 30 year old man. When I watched this as a kid, I never thought about the implications of the relationship. I was seeing a kid grow into an adult and start living an adults life, which I thought was the coolest thing, as a kid. When I saw that he bought all that cool stuff for his apartment, I just wanted this for my life. Then I grew up....UHHHH. Keep them coming, guys.
i feel sorry for anyone that wasnt alive in the 80's. the movies were so much better and so original.
Saw this in the theatre. “He’s a grown up!” That line said by her just hits so hard. Even today.
If you want a HILARIOUS Tom Hanks movie - please watch The Money Pit. It's also early 80's - but soooooooo good.
I think a big important thing to realise is that it's only AFTER Tom Hanks and the girlfriend spend a night together that he starts acting more adult and starts living as if he WAS an adult. I always felt like there was something to that detail. He had an adult experience, and how or why he started acting more adult afterwards is up to how you wanna interpret it. I always thought that was really interesting and subtle.
I read once that in an earlier version of the script the movie had one more scene showing Josh back in school and his class is introduced to a new student, a girl named Susan. Implying that Susan asked the Zoltan machine to make her 13 again so that she could stay with Josh.
I'm almost convinced I saw this scene as a kid when the film was first on TV. Its been bugging me as an adult that the scene isn't there
Where would she live? Lol Her parents would be old and have no idea she reverted back to a kid.
@@ChefDuJour78 In a van down by the river.
I don’t think anybody could’ve pulled this role off better than Tom Hanks. Such a versatile actor. I personally have never seen a bad movie by Tom Hanks or Denzel Washington. My two favorite actors ever!!
Willem Dafoe could have pulled it off.
Ever seen Virtuosity?
@@azazello1784 ummmm, no.
@@StinkyGreenBud actually I haven’t. Was it bad?
"Bachelor Party"? Is there a such thing as a good Adrian Zmed movie, "Grease II", lol.
I heard that every scene was played out twice with Tom and the kid so Tom could see how a 13 year old would react to the situation
This was the first movie I saw with Tom Hanks in it and it made me fall in love with his acting for my entire life. Love that you guys reacted to this one!
Tom Hanks is a godamn national treasure!
I haven’t watched this since I was 6 when it first came out… you guys are giving me nostalgia to go back and watch the hits of the 80’s. 👍🏽
I feel so bad for the mom in this movie. She must have been scared out of her mind. And the 13 year old/grown woman relationship 😬 But yeah, when you don't look at it too hard, fun, lighthearted movie. LOL This is what I thought adulthood would be. Cool office job, fun business parties with fancy drinks that don't taste bad or burn. And everyone gets to get married and have kids. And that's super fun too.
Reality is such a downer.
As a fan, subscriber, single broke mom who cant afford extras like patreon. Can I suggest Monster Squad or High Spirits for Halloween? You guys make me laugh so much after a long night and my daughter goes to sleep. Thank guys! 😘
You need to watch the Tom Hanks sleeper classic, “Joe and the Volcano “.
Wonderful Sunday reaction vid selection, thanks guys.
Yer right, Ton is great, but a lot of the accolades should go to the director, Penny Marshall (r.i.p.). She has a great body of work that stands on it's own as well. If yer going down the Hanks road, I hope this means we're that much closer to his directorial outing, That Thing That You Do, a definite home run of a gem to watch.
Bachelor Party, another Tom Hanks classic..in the vein of Animal House, Splash is a must see with Hanks and John Candy as brothers!
I wanted a trampoline and vending machine in my living room because of this movie! My mom was not for it 🤣 I also have never touched one of those fortune teller things... yes I know but still lol.
When , Josh got older then ,his mom remembered it was him but did not understand was magic.
yessss thanks guys, im feeling down tonight, this really cheered me up, love you guys always make me laugh put me in better mood xxx
wow, same here Sarah :)

PLEASE consider adding the Tom Hanks film "The Terminal" to your list. You'll love it.
I love that movie . I remember when it came out on VHS and I rented it. It really makes you long for your childhood again. The song with the sax btw is called “Forget Me Nots” by Patrice Rushen
I can’t think of a bad Tom Hanks movie. Even his early work “Bachelor Party”, “Turner & Hooch” and “Splash” were hits. His resume is long. I love “Sleepless in Seattle”, “Castaway” and “Philadelphia” among many🔥
Great movie! Another good tom Hanks movie around that time Is called Turner and Hooch it's about him and a big ass dog
Whenever my dogs act up, I always say, "That's it, I'm getting my gun!!" Even though I don't mean it. 😂😂😂😂 I don't even have a gun. 😜
I LOVE Turner and Hooch!!❤️
Turner and Hooch is better than Joe Volcano and Punchline.
That ending where they are silently saying goodbye to each other makes me cry everytime. 😭😭
Tom Hanks has such a innocent and childlike face. He was perfect for this role.
I don't think there are many other actors who could've pulled off this role so convincingly!
@@centuryrox agreed
There are a number of body swap type films that came out after this with different variations on the same theme but this was the original and the best. The piano in the toy shop is the stuff of Hollywood legend. I love this film by Hanks. Turner and Hooch is another great one you should check that out
Here is another example of why Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of all time. This is one of my favorite childhood movies, the nostalgia is a big part of it. Thx guys for making my weekend alot better. 😃
I heard they recorded young Josh doing all Big Josh's parts first to see what a kid would do and react ib that situation. Then they gave the tape to Tom Hanks and he just mimicked little Josh's reactions and responses and childlike acting.
Huh interesting lol but it makes sense.
So like is there a filmed scene of young Josh and Susan on a date? Or did they just do it for certain scenes like when he was talking to his mom or Billy?
@@habitsrabbit I believe there were alot of the innocent interactions with adults. Eating the baby carrots and the caviar, the limo ride, etc.
I never heard anything about that footage. Would be fun to see though.
Fun Fact: Paula Abdul choreographed the piano scene. Hey, check out Bachelor Party soon. It's my favorite Tom Hanks comedy, bar none. Not many would probably agree, but it's hilarious 🤣
This movie always takes me back to when I was a child. The toys, the old times square, all of it. What a great film and I loved the reaction
69, dudes! Obviously, you'll have to do _Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure._
Seconded! Would love to see them react to the Bill & Ted's movies!
Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant. He plays every character SO differently. He could’ve made Forrest like Josh (since this was before Gump). But he didn’t. There’s none of that. He’s the most believable 13 year old ever. He *was* 13. Like u said, he didn’t make it childish. He didn’t force the funny. But seeing a grown man become a 13 year old - u forget he’s an actor - u BELIEVE he’s 13, made a wish & literally grew up overnight. And yes, we *all* loved this movie when it came out. My group saw it 3 times the 1st week. I’ll love Tom Hanks forever for all the characters he’s given us over the years. Genius🖖
The most believable child acting played by adult actors is the whole cast from _El Chavo Del Ocho_ , even Tom Hanks can't beat that.
I love the “Robot turns into a Bug” product develop meeting. It’s something I come back to all the time when I need a break brainstorming ideas, and need to get others to think creatively.
This and “The Secret of My Success” are my go-to, pro-business films.
It's definitely riffing on the same "little guy becomes big executive" vibes of Secret Of My Success, albeit Big kinda takes the premise to its most literal conclusion 😅
The OG Duncan Idaho (Richard Jordan) playing the CEO in SOMS just nails it as the philandering asshat 😂🤣, still one of my favourite 80s movies to this day.
Need to get some Michael j Fox movie reactions from this period other then BTTF
Evrytime I think 'Insectacons' duh.
Yes... Cracks me up Paul in another meeting decides to childishly use Josh's line "I don't get it" just to be mean... Sounds like a board meeting to me lol. Let's hear it for the late John Heard who played Paul (wonderful actor). You mentioned "Secret of My Success" yes that would be a good suggestion for the twins; coincidentally Mercedes Ruehl has a small part in that movie too 😀.
Robot that turns into a bug. That sound like Waspinator.
Great movie. Not many reactors do not modern Tom Hanks movies like Big. You should also do Punch Line, The Money Pit and Turner and Hutch. .Another great romantic comedy is Roxanne 1987.
*Hooch. And YES. The Money Pit...."Ah. Home crap home!" My mom always said this when we drove up to the house. 😂😂😂😂😂
'Joe Versus The Volcano' is also another underrated Tom Hanks film (and it was the first film he did with Meg Ryan too)...
I visited FAO Schwarz once in college, at the original location shown in the movie. It was a really cool store.
That was one of the movies that he did early in his career that really put him on the map and made ppl pay attention to him! The piano dance sequence in the store is recognized as one of the most iconic movie moments. #NYGenXBIKERLady

This movie came out when I was 11 and I was obsessed with the idea of moving to NYC someday and having an apartment like Josh with a trampoline and a soda machine. I never did though. lol
A kind of a similar vein movie to _Big_ is Richard Pryor's _The Toy_ (1982).
Great choice. The real movie experience was always in the 80's and 90's movies for me.
the movie '13 going on 30' is very similar to this movie, sort of like a girl version only slightly different but just as good imo
Best way to unwind tonight and to beat the Sunday scaries, watching you 2 awesome bros react to a comedy! Thank you! 👍
Fun fact, Robert De Niro was said to be wanted for the main role before the movie got off the ground. Apparently it was supposed to be a darker movie, and Hanks made it pure joy.
He wasn't wanted he was cast but dropped out.
1. That's the same toy store used in "Home Alone II".
2. "Movie magic" a child getting an apartment in NY City
3. Every time I see baby corn I think of this movie.
4. Elizabeth Perkins could get it.😍😋😈
5. There's a Zoltar machine at Circus Circus casino in Reno in the parking area lobby. It must be plugged in to work though.
6. Would I go back? Hell yeah! I didn't have that prosperous a family, and I still would.
7. Tom Hanks is the GOAT.
8. Thank you Penny Marshall.
Tom Hanks character is showing the immaturity of a 12-year-old while being an adult but also showing all the things you enjoyed as a child you quit doing as an adult adults could still do but we're too busy with life work family Etc
7:52 ....
-Chris: "That's a really sad sound... Aaaawh"

“Big” hurls me back to the 80’s. My dad and I watched this often when I was a kid and he always promised me that he’d buy me that floor piano one day 😂😂😂. Thank you guys so much for the content.
I was actually checking out the real life filming locations from this movie and the hotel called St. James actually exists in NYC and it is a really nice hotel. Don’t you just love Hollywood?
I love this movie and while it was early in his career, it gave a good hint of things to come from Tom Hanks. One of the best actors of all time in my opinion. Philadelphia, Forest Gump, so many great movies.
Loved this as a kid, and now when i have spent a few years (in the past) working with toys and doing research and going to toy shows it is even more special.
Josh's best friend was in Honey I Shrunk the Kids (1989) neighbor kid. Also John Heard was in Home Alone. R.i.p to him.
Tom Hanks. Most people from this generation know all about Toms serious acting abilities and boy is that an understatement. Many don’t know that Toms early career was in comedy. He’s a fantastic comic actor as well. Let’s face it, that man can do anything.
Classic lol
You should watch The Burbs. (with Tom Hanks & Carrie Fisher)
I recently caught part of it again (watched it about 15 years ago) and it's still such a fun/weird movie
"Shut up Susan. Nobody cares. We're here to party." Had me rolling 😂😂🤣🤣
Love this movie. Josh was given a gift of seeing what being an adult was like and then gets to go back to being a kid again so he could appreciate it that much more.
Also Garry Marshall cast Hanks in his first big break TV show "Bosom Buddies"
Not a well reviewed movie, but check out The Money Pit with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. Silly fun.
David Moscow (young josh) was on set at all times. they’d do a dry run of a scene with him and Tom Hanks would observe his idiosyncrasies. Then Hanks would copy them
Next logical step for you guys in the Tom Hanks oeuvre . . . The Money Pit! And then maybe That Thing You Do! There just aren't enough reactions to either of those movies.
A bad Tom Hanks movie? No such thing.......... Keep going with his early work. "The Burbs".."Money Pit"........"Turner and Hooch"....."Splash"
I would love to see them react to The Burbs
Yes, we're all better off not knowing if there's a bad Tom Hanks movie. I personally don't know of any and don't wanna know.
I recommend I highly recommend The Money Pit with Tom Hanks. It's still my favorite Tom Hanks film by far. I still laugh myself into coughing at this movie and LOVE seeing reactions. You guys do that I will sub to you instantly. No bribes tho

Who didn't want to be 'big' when we were children? So we could eat as much junk food as we wanted, play outside until WE wanted to go in, stay up late, have days off school & watch daytime TV like Supermarket Sweep & Diagnosis Murder (british 80s baby), stay at our friend's houses or fun relative's house every weekend, to be like Kevin McCallister every now & again especially when parents or siblings pi$$ed us off, etc.
I prefer adulthood though.. if I can be my inner child too sometimes, like when watching nostalgic films like this.
Or like Labyrinth (the baby crying & the storm at 7:05 reminded me of it lol).
Such a good movie, ya'll should react to 13 going on 30.

The song you guys were jamming to was Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen ( ua-cam.com/video/jtMHsNhQBvI/v-deo.html ). It might sound familiar to you if you remember Will Smith's "Men In Black" theme, which samples it ( ua-cam.com/video/fiBLgEx6svA/v-deo.html ).
Great song. Makes you move.
Funny thing is: I would have sworn on my life that this movie had a totally different ending and in the early days of the internet (~1998) loads of people agreed with me. In the end, we figured out that there's a movie with the same plot called "14 Going on 30" (not to be confused with the more modern "13 Going on 30" starring Jennifer Garner) that has the ending we remembered.
Maybe that’s the one I remember where the woman turns into a girl at the end.

This is a classic!! LITTLE is a good reimagining of the concept. Great review.
26:25 Big is a classic. Tom Hanks gave one of the best performances of his acting career. A dumb 12-year-old boy's wish to be big magically comes true when he wakes up as a 30-year-old adult male and consequently becomes an up-and-coming executive of a toy company.

So this movie was in the *80s,* right?
This 10/10 beautiful, gorgeous, seductive, desirable, good-looking, sexy, hot, foxy, attractive, juicy, delicious, flirtatious, curvaceous, voluptuous woman is named, *Elizabeth Perkins.* She was *28* while filming this movie.
There is an uncanny, unreal, supernatural, strange, freakish, clone, look-alike resemblance between actresses,
*Millie Bobby Brown* from *Stranger Things* and *Elizabeth Perkins.* 😱
The 80s. When actors (Ron Howard & Penny Marshall from sitcoms (Happy Days & Laverne and Shirley) which were made by Gary Marshall became Directors and used Tom Hanks for iconic films. Just look up there IMDBs.
I would love to see a spin off movie called zoltar.

The way you guys are talking about skipping school.... I'm a bit surprised I don't see "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" on your channel. (Unless you've seen it already, of course) 😁
I have always loved this movie even since I was a kid. Tom Hanks really is the best. I've never seen him in a bad movie.
Some more awesome Tom Hanks movies:
Castaway
The Green Mile
Forrest Gump
Toy Story
Turner and Hooch
The Burbs
The Money Pit
These movies are all great.
That poor woman is going to be so psychologically screwed up. "How was I supposed to know he was a little kid under a spell? I mean, in retrospect there were clues..."
You should watch the Toy with Richard Pryor
They kind of re-made this movie a while back with 13 going on 30, this time with a girl in the lead role.
I keep thinking though now that I'm an adult, that the love interest in this movie is going to need some therapy after this...she slept with a 13 year old boy without knowing! Statutory rape, am i right?
Another good Tom Hanks classic you should check out: The Money Pit.
These 80’s movie are the best! Tim Hanks kills every roll. Not sure if you’ve watched Forrest Gump, but if you liked this movie and Tom Hanks, you’ll love Forest Gump! Great reaction too!
The best Tom Hanks movie is Joe Vs the Volcano. Seriously under rated movie! If you enjoyed the adult playing a kid thing, Jack with Robin Williams is as good as it gets!
